So in the simulation Gordon made to see the girl called Laura from the past, she got back with her boyfriend Greg. He deleted Greg from the simulation because he liked Laura even the she wasent real. But deleting Greg changed her entirely and he realised that it wasn’t worth it

The show is called the Orville, takes place in the future, we are on a spaceship that has a simulation room. A phone from 2015 was found, and he uploaded the memories in the phone, recreating the life of the person that owned it.
Long story short, he falls in love with what's basically a simulation, and it gets bad.
His friends to help him alter the simulation, unbeknownst to him, to make the girl get back with Greg, which was basically her ex.
He doesn't give up and decides to remove Greg from the simulation.
Though he notices the girl's life was heavily altered, and decided it was not worth it
