@@nelsonw9483 that's also how I played the first time then I got a switch and bought definitive edition also the day I got it I spent 12 hours straight playing that game without even knowing it
Riki's voice being a 40 year old man is actually really fitting because of how old he actually is in the game, he even has a wifey-pon and tons of little-pons
its not just the game mechanics or story. its the way you feel about the characters. the emotion and feelings of the entire adventure and the connection it gives you throughout the entire story gets you addicted. i put over 500 hours into it. the ending though......oh my lord.
Gameplay-wise, XC2 is superior. I agree XC1 has a better overall story and main protagonist, but I prefer XC2's cast of heroes. I guess, because I'm a gameplay focused player, I prefer XC2 over XC1, but XC1 don't have that massively of a weaker system to make it irrelevant. XC1 is still fun on it's own.
I will say that XC2's combat is more fun but that is ONLY once you actually learn what you're supposed to be doing. And the game does such a bad job of teaching you the combat system that I went through over half the campaign (we're talking 50+ levels) without really understanding the combat. Compare that to how seemlessly DE teaches you how to fight, use arts and visions it's night and day. Overall I do think DE is the superior game but XC2 does definitely feel like a worthy sequel, which definitely wasn't my initial opinion. In fact, when I first started XC2 I was lowkey disappointed. But after a while I grew to appreciate it and it is definitely worth playing.
I never played or was interested in large JRPGs until I picked this up as a kid at the local GameStop a decade ago, all because the cover looked cool. Since then, it's still been in my top 3 favorite games of all time. XC1 is my Final Fantasy 7, and I'm glad a lot of people get to experience it on the Switch.
I've been calling XC1 the modern FFVII and got so much shit for it for so long. I'm glad someone shares my opinion. Is literally the JRPG that doesn't feel like one and that drives you in due it's narrative/world and makes you a JRPG fan. It's too sad that XC1 can never live up to it''s rightful glory due to circumstances.
I've spent about 1500 total hours playing Xenoblade 1, 2, and X and I never get tired hearing people talk about this series. I'm glad that gaming's best kept secret is popping up more and more on my UA-cam feed.
Played this game for the first time last year and it became my favorite game of all time. Always love watching other people share the same amazing experience that I felt with this game. Loved watching your video. Your editing skills & commentary are great. Keep it up! :)
You should play Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I know for some people it has to much anime but the combat system is way better than in Xenoblade 1. The story is not as good as in 1 but its still top tier.
Well I mean it’s not THAT much anime as some people say. It certainly takes itself seriously most of the time, but when the game has its more lighthearted moments it can certainly get a mite cringe haha
Why do people think the story is not as good, it might be just me but by the end of the game I was much more invested in the rex' crew than the shulk one
XC2 has better combat i agree and the story is solid however the worlds are segmented and feel small overall and the main character (Rex) is shocking as a protag. XC2 is a good game but XC1 is a masterpiece.
You literally only unlock that skill branch by doing a specific side quest. It's an expansion on his normal personality, and that's what makes it so brilliant.
This game is beyond amazing. I'm replaying it, I first played it on the Wii of a cousin of mine, but couldn't play beyond the beginning, then finished it on 3ds to later see the announcement of it's port to switch, I didn't do much on 3ds just to replay it again, and well here I am lv80, almost finishing the game again, but this time doing more side quest, and battling all rare monsters. I love Xenoblade.
Alright. I made the difficult choice of stopping this video and waiting until my birthday in March to pick this game up and play it. But I will come back and finish this video and give my thoughts. I just finished FFVII on the switch. Also I don't know if it counts as a JRPG but Fire emblem three houses is one of my favorite games of all time. Both worth checking out
I'm back. Took me way longer than I thought. I've gotta be honest I didn't really enjoy this game. Don't get me wrong I think it's good game. I liked combat. And the world building was fun. I'll give it credit that it intrigued from the start. But as I was going through the game I just didn't feel compelled to keep going. In my opinion the most important thing to any rpg is an enthralling story and this might be a hot take but I didn't buy into Fiora and Shulk. I personally didn't feel connected to Fiora so I had a hard time seeing why I should keep going. I also thought the story was incredibly predicable at times. I was disappointed that we saw dickson clearly being a bad guy early on. And some of the very end cutscenes felt like a very odd choice. It's a shame, I never really dived into game. The side quests weren't enjoyable, Melia was the only character I really liked. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought the endgame ramped up in difficulty. It's too bad, I had a good time early on but that feeling didn't last long. I don't know if I'll pick up the second one. Part of me wants to, but maybe a bit more down the road. As for your video it's great. I love your passion for this game. It's why I got it in the first place and don't get me wrong I'm glad I did. I can see the reason you love this game so much. I just never got that same feeling. I suppose I was hoping for a bit more. Somewhere along the road this game didn't click with me like other RPGs. My favorite continues to be FF7.
I will never get tired of listening to people talk about how amazing Xenoblade is. I started with Xenoblade 2 and finished it right around the time Definitive Edition was announced, and I don't think that timing could have been any more perfect.
@@fishnutz5196 2 definitely has a way different feel, and I definitely understand why a lot of people don't like it as much as 1. It took me way longer to get into 2 than 1, but at this point I feel like you have to mentally separate them a little bit and appreciate the things that 2 did well while not taking it quite as seriously, maybe. At the same time, though, the whole reason I bought 2 when I first got my switch was because it looked so damn good, and looking back I think it would have been worth it just for that.
Play Xenoblade 2. I think I had more fun with that than the first one and I LOVE the first one. Those "anime" moments are jarring but the amazing story makes up for it. It also made me use all the characters, unlike Xenoblade 1.
@@raphnoble808 I think that both have some of the best stories to tell, but in the end 1 has a better main plot and main character while 2 has better plot outside of the main story and better characters overall. Both are top tier games tho
@@DavidHosey1 2s story isn't that good by a long shot when huge chunk of it is just pointless filler, bs anime moments that get completely ignored during gameplay, would be like 10 hours long if the characters just told the things from the start than wait for dramatic moments to do so for no reason while the villains at the end just become threatening as Team Rocket from how many times you beat them up yet still pointlessly have to have the climactic final battles rather than just killing them when they were already beaten...
@@V-Jes 2 actually has arcs that impact characters, and characters that are relevant for the whole story instead of just a single shorter arc. 2 has a noppon that actually grows and does interesting stuff, instead of just being a failed attempt at comedy. 2 has a deeper battle system that reflects the story’s powers (except foresight). 2 has far more emotion in its cast that drives the story forward. Cut out anything unnecessary from 2 and it’d probably be around 35 hours. Do the same for 1 when it comes to the many inconsequential and pointless characters like Riki or Juju and it would be about 10 hours You don’t have to prefer it, but if you can handle a little bit of anime trope annoyance in chapter 2 then it is clear to see that 2 is a direct improvement over 1 in most all respects save for personal preferences
Great video, I'm surprised this has so few views! Great editing, funny commentary, good talking points. Cheers man, glad you liked the game, it's a personal favorite
I disagree on You Will Know Our Names. There is a certain grandness and build up to it that I enjoy over the in your face original which is weird because I love when game music does that. Mechanical Rhythm sounds so gritty and visceral too compared to the og that I love it a bit too much. But for me, X is my Xeno game. I highly recommend it. Its pretty rough around the edges in some parts but honestly, that's par for the course in most JRPGs that want to have their cake and realize they can't eat it all at the very end of production(all the stilted movement and end story results of slaying a god are just a few examples the genre shares). But X has fantastic environments, a faster paced Xenoblade 1 combat system and some of the best sidequests I've ever seen in a JRPG. Wonderfully written and in some cases gruesome and real since the entire premise is about survival. I find them to be a perfect example of how to grip your audience through text since obviously most aren't fully animated into cutscenes. The mobility you have and freedom of exploration just makes everything more fun to go through than both 1 and 2 with great worldbuilding to boot. The real issues it has is a somewhat lacking main story and imo, creating a main character versus just playing as one. Ironically enough though, having a mute created character does work to the benefit of enhancing the sidequests by making you feel more involved in things without breaking character cuz you know....you have no character to break. That's an entire topic in of itself as I do believe the recent influx of games using character creation greatly hurts storytelling but this isn't the place to talk about that. I guess the only real divisive topic for X would be the music. Hiroyuki Sawano is the composer for X's music and it definitely gives you whiplash if you're coming from the first game but he's done great work making hype and grand sounding tracks for some anime and his work on X is no different. The music is either great when you listen to it or you find yourself loving it the longer you play. It grows on you a lot from what I've seen with others and their experience as it did with me. Give X a try when you get the chance. It doesn't have the same stellar main story but its awesome in its own right in literally every other department. I think the story was mostly toned down to make way for its multiplayer aspect as there is quite a bit of concept art and other indications that its story was much more vast and integral to the experience than the final product we got. As for Xenoblade 2, its definitely something you have try out for yourself without anyone else fully influencing any preconceived notions. I like it but I think its the most troubled of the trio despite the plenty successes it has. XC2 just has some issues at times when keeping consistent quality. Though I personally think the Heart to Hearts are way better than 1's. The combat is fairly unique too. But the slow start and bad tutorials definitely put people off from it. The anime nature of it is more of an opinion based critique as it has quite a bit of charm to it in a lot of areas and some very awkward and stilted ones at times too(trying very hard to not just default to the word "cringe"). A mixed bag I guess. Its a good game but I don't think its a great one. Its definitely a very interesting experience. As a final note, if I were to recommend another JRPG, I'd say give the Tales of series a shot. They're the most tropey of the genre but I think it benefits a lot from having almost every game be contained in its own world. I'm not too big on its music but there have been a few times the games have surprised me with its story and gameplay. Xillia was my first one and it holds a special place in my heart despite its shortcomings
Easily my favorite video game of all time. It's still so underrated despite being such an amazing game. I definitely recommend the Definitive Edition to anyone that wants to play an amazing JRPG or game in general with breathtaking locations, astounding music, fun gameplay, and a grandiose and moving story.
Definetly can recommend three houses. But its a fire emblem game, they are quite different from normal jrpgs. Think of them more as a mix of strategy games and normal rpgs.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses sucked. The school part of the game ruined it. It needed mostly just battles and a bit of story in between them. Half of the game was just garbage
As someone who also wasn’t big into JRPGs, Xenoblade Chronicles was absolutely amazing, and it’s still one of my favorite games ever made. Also EarthBound is great, though it can be frustrating at times. If you stick through it, you can find something amazing.
Really really good video! you basically got everything right, music, graphics, characters etc. This is the best JRPG every made, maybe even the best game every made in my opinion!
Xenoblade was the first JRPG I played. Growing up, I didn't own any consoles except a Gamecube, which didn't have that many JRPGs. I only played free games on my computer or smartphone. It wasn't until I graduated high school that I bought my own console, a Wii U, and I bought Xenoblade on a whim. This game became my standard for what a great JRPG is, and though I have played many JRPGs since, none have captured my investment in the game as much as Xenoblade 1 did, until Xenoblade 2 came out. Though Xenoblade 2 tells a very different story with a different tone, it also captured my love of storytelling, character writing, and world building that Xenoblade 1 did. Xenoblade X does one of those things well: world building. But they kind of fell flat on story and characters in that one. I do hope you give Xenoblade 2 a chance, and maybe Pyra/Mythra getting into Smash could influence you on that. The story and characters are great. Judging from this video, you probably aren't a fan of JRPG and anime tropes, but I hope you can look past those and see the amazing story and gameplay.
XC2 is an anime fapfest that was bogged down by terrible voice acting and a story that didn't hold up to the first. The gameplay was solid but the game has tutorials until the very end of the game that don't explain the mechanics well. I did like XC2 but it falls short of 1 and X for me. Torna was dope though
Imo i think xc2 has more interesting gameplay if u understand the combat system but the story of xc1 is my fav in any video game ever. And i finished it earlier this year so its not a nostalgia thing
Idk why it took me so long to get around to watching this video but I am glad I finally clicked it. Xenoblade is so amazing man, it elevates the genre to a new peak of greatness. I would recommend this game to anyone, even those that generally dislike JRPGs. Loved hearing your thoughts on one of my all time favorite games!
I played XCDE last month and I loved the story, characters, music, world. This was my first Xenoblade I ever played and played it every night and finished in about 2 weeks. The only other RPG series I played before was Pokémon and Fire Emblem. I didn’t expect the story to be that great. Definitely has become one of my favorite games. I love your video especially the editing and some funny moments. Reminded me the feelings I had playing this game for first time.
I don't know if I've already commented it here but this game is AMAZING! You can tell it is because I keep watching all sorts of review videos of it when I want to feel good so here I am!
"Why are you British is unironically one of my top 10 favorite memes. Just something about makes me at LEAST actually chuckle even in my worst moods XD Also living on the body of a giant sounds epic AF
"But the Switch can do ninety-six......" ...Snug visibly processing this. "...so I don't really know what that means, I can barely get this microphone to work" LOL Great video Snug! The game reminded me a lot of when I was into Tales of Symphonia back on the GC way back when; it was around the time when I was phasing out of traditional JRPGs, and it and its franchise was already bringing what it could from the action genre into the JRPG style ... I'd given Xenoblades a shot more recently but it's definitely more of a commitment now than it was back then. :-/ glad to see it's a solid entry into the modern genre though!
Mate I was well shocked by the VOICES! This video is on par with the last honestly it had me and my girlfriend laughing soo many times, I just finished work and this was what I needed dude. The editing, sound design and humor were all perfect ❤
The affinity system thing reminds me of New Vegas or Outer Worlds, or I guess any obsidian RPGs, they do the same kind of thing with bonding with the companions. I'm the exact same as you, I hate the combat in jrpgs. The only jrpg I've played for a substantial amount of time is pokemon, if that even counts lol. I can totally see the charm in this game though! Freaking sick video man, your scripts are so engaging and high energy but flow so well at the same time. Brilliant stuff snug, cheers!
Shulk from Cali just about had me in tears from laughing. Great video on a great game; I think your channel will probably blow up in the near future if your content retains this kinda quality. It's a sub from me.
Every five minutes you bring up a new point that makes me want to like your video again Sad that you can only like videos once. I completely agree on the music and have the same setting for it!
Incredibly well done video. As somebody who grew up with JRPGS, but dislikes a good majority of their tropes, I can definitely see where you're coming from. Grinding sucks, and while I can mostly tolerate the slower aspects of JRPGS, I can absolutely understand why others wouldn't. Most issues can be considered user error, like party switching, but some games just have serious design flaws no matter what you do. I'm glad Xenoblade drew you in and spoke to you, your origin story with it, is borderline similar to mine. If I were to give any rpg advice, I'd say probably avoid most turn based ones, unless they sound really up your alley, and try out more action based ones.
I discovered Xenoblade Chronicles from Chuggaconroy who was a major part of my childhood. I got the DS version, but got stuck and gave up about half way through the game. When the game was announced for the Switch after I played Xenoblade 2, I thought I was gonna die. The soundtrack and characters and story is what makes it not only my favorite JRPG but my favorite game of all time.
As a massive JRPG lover, Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite game of all time. Like, I love it so much that I made a two part review video about it. Also, amazing video :)
Nice sneak peek at Xenoblade 2. The sequel can be very divisive, especially among those who played the original first. I personally have been preferring it more for the combat, world, and characters, but it can be very off-putting to fans of the original. I think the more complex battle system might be a turn off for you, but I'm still curious what you think of it.
To be fair I haven’t ever played it. I’ve only ever seen bits and pieces. I know it gets a very bad rap for a few cringey moments, but I’d definitely give it a try at some point. It is just very easy to make fun of lol
@@Snugboy seriously try it out its not AS good as xenoblade 1 but thats very hard to beat but its still amazing and like halve way they stop messing around and then all hell breaks loose and the way xeno 1 and 2 are connected is definitely worth checking it out for trust me.
I love Xenoblade 1 so much. I know you said you are apprehensive about 2, but 2 has the standalone Torna expansion which tones down a lit of the base games flaws IMO. Also there is Xenoblade X, which is trapped on the Wii U, but I really liked that game. Also, I'd recommend the Ys games, particularly 8 and 9. Any of the Tales games (Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Berseria, Arise, etc.) I also recommend. I'm recommending Ys and Tales because they are action based, not turn based. I've also heard good things about the Trails games, but I haven't played one yet.
I'm so happy that i played this almost completely blind. All i knew was there was a big robot villain that called shulk "monado boy" and that shulk said ill kill you in a strong way i guess. I had no fucking clue who sharla or fiora even were. i just saw nintendo of europe tweeting about it on twitter and i was like, "fuck it, im playing this game" and you know what? I'm happy that i did. Xenoblade chronicles is an amazing game and if i could, i would tell everyone to play it.
You hate Beetroot! That's an Australian staple mate, disgraceful... But as for the actual video, you killed it mate. Your editing style and the pace of these videos are some of the best I've seen and once again, even though personally I didn't have much interest in this game before this video (I'm also not a big fan of the JRPG genre) This game looks like a good time! Can't wait to see what you got for us next 👏
Mayor always coming through with the wholesome as fuck comments. Absolute legend mate. And no Beetroots can go die in a hole they taste disgusting blech
@@Snugboy I feel like that’s a lot of people actually. That scene is notorious for being meme’d to death but it was meant to be that way. It’s still funny tho. Idk, FFX is one of my favorite games ever and it’s the second-most popular FF titles in Japan. But it has some rocky voiceacting sections (according to many people) and 100% has a lot of JRPG gameplay tropes you don’t seem to like. Maybe you’d like it if you gave it a chance!
This video, is an amazing review of Xenoblade Chronicles, I have not finished the game yet, (im at the part where they go to the stronghold at sword valley) and this is a perfect, well balanced and awesome spoiler free review. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PART HAS TO BE 12:26 lol good job!
Hey, first time I see this channel. I hope you manage to be creative for longer, cause I'm here to stay! You chose a most beloved franchise to review. 1:53 Try Chrono Trigger. If you want something more modern, Tales of Symphonia is an excellent place to start, Tales of Vesperia if you want something a bit more sophisticated.
Xenoblade Chronicles was like one of my first game and oh boy... It was just sooo amazing playing it on the Wii back then. When i first played it, i'd never played a jrpg or open world game, and i just loved it soooo much ! I spent hours and hours on it, replaying it numerous times... So when they announced the DE on switch with a dlc at the end ? I had to buy it and i was not disappointed ! As much as i LOVE the Wii original, the graphisms did start to feel a bit old and too pixelized so this new version was a blessing and i enjoyed spending yet another 100+h on a game i already knew by heart. The dlc content was also a really nice touch, as a Melia and Shulk fan, having a whole 20h post game just about them was amazing. So yep, if you've never played Xenoblade Chronicles, I can only recomand you to try it cause you won't be disappointed ! As for the 2 other Xenoblade Chronicles (the X and the 2), they're also pretty good games, however, just keep in mind that the 2 IS NOT A SEQUEL to the first. Just like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesnt actually have much to do with the original on a surface level. You can find easter eggs here and there and a few links in the lore but they definitely aren't actually related apart from their names ^^;
Wow, you dislike the new Engage the Enemy, I thought I could like this video; jkjk, this was a very fun video to watch. I was already a big JRPG fan when I played Xenoblade - it still blew me away, but not quite on the level it seems to have done for you. It's nice to see what a fresh experience of the game is like I'm actually with you against grinding in JRPGs, I don't like when it becomes necessary for progress; games like Xenoblade, Bravely, or Cosmic Star - to name some of my favorites - tend to be good so long as you do the battles you happen to encounter along the way, which is a vastly prefered experience to me Also, you should absolutely play Persona 5 Royal!
Great video! It is crazy how good the game is even on the 3DS. I would highly recommend Nier Automata and Valkyria Chronicles along with the games you listed. Neither are strictly JRPGs but they share similar qualities with Xenoblade.
Ooh yes I've heard heaps about Nier Automata! I really want to try that out. And I'll look into Valkyria. Also yeah I am still surprised it even runs on the 3DS, that is so impressive to me. I wish it wasn't my first experience playing, but even with the awful graphics, it just sucked me in and kept me hooked.
I played this on the New 3DS and I was floored by how interesting and expansive this game was I'm currently watching a streamer named DeeBeeGeek play it for the first time ever and it's a blast I highly recommend it if you ever have free time. He uploaded the first episode on his youtube channel
I remember playing Xenoblade on the New 3DS and loved every second of it. Then when Xenoblade DE came out, I played that in front of my faminly so they could experience the story too, and they also liked it. Definitely one of the best games I've ever played. If you want a JRPG that has a similarly impactful story, I recommend Tales of Berseria. You play as a girl turned demon named Velvet trying to kill the man that murdered her younger brother. But since that man is considered a hero and she doesn't care about hurting others, you technically play as the villain of the story. It also has some amazing world building that will suck you in, and the gameplay is also more like a hack-n-slash, so it might be up your ally.
Recommendations? The Trails series! I know it's nothing like the real-time nature of Xenoblade, and sticks to the tried-and-true turn-based battle system, but if you're in it for the story, you can never go wrong with Trails. It's an absolute legend of a series. And now the Crossbell arc will be getting an english release too.
Late reply but... the trails series is the opposite of what he likes, at least in terms of gameplay (not a jab at the series, it's battle system is great). I'd say Ys is more up of his alley.
XC Definitive Edition at least has XP sharing, so it’s actually not an issue at all that you hadn’t used other characters before. They’re never more than one level apart from each other no matter what you do. I really didn’t have that much of a problem at all with Lorithea because I used Shulk, Melia, and Dunban. Often the cutscenes will give you a hint as to who is the best character to use in the next battle. The hardest boss battle for me was much earlier in the game.
I remember playing the game when it came out in 2010, not being the biggest fan of jrpgs like yourself, and this game alone made me a massive fan of them. I probably played the original game over 500 hours, making multiple profiles with hundreds of hours each. When I began I was just like you, maimed shulk, reyn and sharla, and skipped side quests cause I wanted to rush the story, since I was hooked. As I replayed I learned of agility and how busted it can be in game (and make characters like Dunban a god, or even a slow man like reyn a super fast wall, practically a speeding truck) I even played the 3ds, but couldn’t get past the either mine heh. Just wasn’t as fun I guess, but definitive really makes the wonderful memories I have of the game even better. I can play it anytime and either learn new things, or find new ways to play I enjoy. Final party always is now, shulk, “seven”, and Dunban.
A JRPG I 100% recommend is Ni no Kuni wrath of the white witch. The game was made by Level 5 the people who made professor layton and yo kai watch and the first game is a crossover with them and studio ghibli. The entire game just oozes with charm and the story justs wants you to hug it to death then cry when you do. Amazing game
@@Snugboy AAAAAAA IM SO HAPPY YOU'RE CONSIDERING PLAYING IT! It's one of, if not, my favorite games ever and i severally underrated imo! Please tell me what your thoughts are if you do play it!
Not really JRPG's since they're action-RPG's, but I recommend checking out the Ys series. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, Ys Origin and Ys: The Oath in Felghana are good ones to start with (I do recommend playing Ys VIII at least on hard though). And the Half-Minute Hero games are pretty much made for people with short attention spans. The first one is pretty good, but the 2nd one called Half-Minute Hero: The Second Coming is excellent. The story is mostly light-hearted parodying but even with that it still manages to deliver some really nice and impactful moments. Oh yeah and the soundtrack is excellent and was composed by an all-star cast of Japanese game composers.
And oh boy… PLAY. XENOBLADE. CHRONICLES. 2. It‘s equally worth it and the story just goes bonkers at the end as well. I even like 2 more then 1. 2 may start slow and has strange moments at first but it really goes up tenfold later. Especially the first cutscene of the last chapter with make you nut or just shut your brain off in disbelieve because it is just so crazy. It‘ll make you feel little… (and cough cough Rex may or may not get a new outfit as well that Smash Ultimate spoiled but yeah cough cough)
Dude you gotta play Yes VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. If you loved XC for it's story and characters you're gonna fall from your couch - in a good way ;) it has been a great discovery and cannot recommend it enough!! Great vid btw!!
I can confirm this is the best game I have ever played- My 5 year old daughter had her eyes glued the entire time I replayed the definite edition - which says alot - I understand its not for everyone - but litereally this inferior game has HEART 2 HEART
I say definitely give Xenoblade 2 a shot despite how it looks and sounds at time (the shakey voice acting I mean), especially if you loved the first game cuz of some major lore stuff at the end. (don’t worry, XC2 has an easy mode too and a custom difficulty for and even wilder time). Also maybe give the other Xeno games a shot but probably after you’ve gotten used to RPG conventions.
I just bought Xenoblade Chronicles 3D because I adore my 3ds. I haven't played it yet, and I have a Switch and want to play the newer Xenoblade on it. Is the 3D version still worth playing if I have a Switch? Or will I enjoy the Switch version MORE if I play the 3ds version? Someone halp
Bravely default, Miitopia, Persona 4 Golden and Octopath are up there with Xenoblade for me. All have amazing sound tracks and surprisingly amazing stories.
@@aarondx3764 *spoilers* The great sage being possessed in the second act of the game. Yeah it’s nowhere near as good as Xenoblade story wise but considering I expected nothing too big in terms of plot for a Mii game that why I think that.
Currently playing through the game as I watch this, just got to the Mechonis, and having an absolute blast so far. If I had to point to another good JRPG, I'd recommend Octopath Traveler. It's a gorgeous 3D pixelated homage to the classic 16 bit golden age of JRPG's with solid story, amazingly engaging combat and a simply exquisite soundtrack. Seriously, even if you don't play it, just listen to some of the music. My go to picks would be the title theme, Flamesgrace, the underground/cave theme, and ALL of the battle tracks. Decisive Battle II, Those Who Govern Reason, and Daughter of the Dark God being the best among them.
Gamers: You can't improve a masterpiece
Monolith: Hold my Monado.
We can change the future!

Damn wish Riki could be my Daddypon :(

its not just the game mechanics or story. its the way you feel about the characters. the emotion and feelings of the entire adventure and the connection it gives you throughout the entire story gets you addicted. i put over 500 hours into it. the ending though......oh my lord.
I want to compliment your editing skills. So classy. Also, as fellow Chuggaaconroy fan, I have learnt to love many a game through his videos.
Thank you kind sir 🧐
Trust me the connection between xenoblade 1 & 2 is brilliant
Pls give Xenoblade Chronicles 2 also a chance to shine 🥺
Stay tuned ;)))
Change the title from ‘JRPG’ to ‘game’ and that’s even more accurate
That's pretty true compared to it's sequel. It really is a good game period. Japanese or not👍🏾
I never played or was interested in large JRPGs until I picked this up as a kid at the local GameStop a decade ago, all because the cover looked cool.
It's too sad that XC1 can never live up to it''s rightful glory due to circumstances.
ohhh XC as an FF7 for modern player is such a good take
I've spent about 1500 total hours playing Xenoblade 1, 2, and X and I never get tired hearing people talk about this series.
Keep it up! :)
Damn your channel is underrated. I know this video is old but this video essay is a masterpiece. Better in quality than a lot of big UA-camrs.
One day. I'm gonna be able to say I was here for the start of Snugboy's rise to power
Rise to power of what? Underdog rebellion that opposed the ISH empire?
Nah jk love you brother
You should play Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I know for some people it has to much anime but the combat system is way better than in Xenoblade 1. The story is not as good as in 1 but its still top tier.
Well I mean it’s not THAT much anime as some people say. It certainly takes itself seriously most of the time, but when the game has its more lighthearted moments it can certainly get a mite cringe haha
Why do people think the story is not as good, it might be just me but by the end of the game I was much more invested in the rex' crew than the shulk one
Story of XC2 is great imo.
I love the XC2 compare to XC1
XC2 has better combat i agree and the story is solid however the worlds are segmented and feel small overall and the main character (Rex) is shocking as a protag. XC2 is a good game but XC1 is a masterpiece.
This channel deserves A LOT more of subscribers
You called Shulk an optimist but one of his skill branches is literally about how he's a pessimist...
Both worth checking out
ABSOLUTE LEGEND. See you in March baby!!!! Also I played FE: Awakening like five years ago and then haven’t touched any other fire emblem game lol
@Micah Aguilar Don’t forget to finish the video once you’re done with the game
and he was never seen again
"I'LL KILL YOU" you are serious, I got a literal chill down my back from this within the video itself... so can comfirm accurate.
I will never get tired of listening to people talk about how amazing Xenoblade is. I started with Xenoblade 2 and finished it right around the time Definitive Edition was announced, and I don't think that timing could have been any more perfect.
Xenoblade has awesome story, world and combat but man i couldnt enjoy 2 with Rex as the main character.
XC1 excels in story and tone, but XC2 definitely has it beat in terms of gameplay. I’d even say a lot of the characters seem more alive in XC2
@@raphnoble808 I think that both have some of the best stories to tell, but in the end 1 has a better main plot and main character while 2 has better plot outside of the main story and better characters overall. Both are top tier games tho
“You were staring… PERVERT!”
Do the same for 1 when it comes to the many inconsequential and pointless characters like Riki or Juju and it would be about 10 hours
You don’t have to prefer it, but if you can handle a little bit of anime trope annoyance in chapter 2 then it is clear to see that 2 is a direct improvement over 1 in most all respects save for personal preferences
Nothing more to say.
It's a war-time strategy game
Fire Emblem: Three Houses sucked. The school part of the game ruined it. It needed mostly just battles and a bit of story in between them. Half of the game was just garbage
@@vgnvideogameninja2930 you know the school stuff was largely optional, right?
Three Houses is criminally good
As someone who also wasn’t big into JRPGs, Xenoblade Chronicles was absolutely amazing, and it’s still one of my favorite games ever made.
Also EarthBound is great, though it can be frustrating at times. If you stick through it, you can find something amazing.
Great minds think alike ;) And yeah look I kind of want to stick through just for that music lol
Not to mention Melia is voiced by Jenna Colman (Who is Most famously played Clara Oswald from Doctor Who) i was mind blown when i looked that up.
I can’t unhear it now. It’s just Clara lol
Yo I’m so glad I found this! I was smiling the hole time.
Okay going to see the Age of Calamity video and seeing you gushing for Xenoblade now? Okay I'm in love
I like XC2 a little more, but only because I played it first, but it doesn't really matter because they are both so good
Same xenoblade 2 is my number one, and I played it after xeno 1 and x
I prefer xc1 for the story, xcx for the gameplay and i think xc2 is the perfect mix of story and gameplay. But i like xeno 1 a little more i think
@@chooongusbug724 k.
Imo i think xc2 has more interesting gameplay if u understand the combat system but the story of xc1 is my fav in any video game ever. And i finished it earlier this year so its not a nostalgia thing

Absolutely no idea how and why this video got picked up! Thanks for watching!!
I cannot wait to see what Monolith is currently working on.. but surely it will be amazing.

Great video Snug!
Lmaooo Jon I am stupid remember this. I really wanna try Tales I heard it’s super good! But god JRPGs are such a time commitment 😫

What a fantastic review! Very well done.
Thank you so much!
Chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of the game was amazing; I'm SO happy to finally be able to play Xenoblade for myself on my Switch!
I played this game and didn’t even customize anyones outfits. I just used their default appearance because I thought they were just so cool.
As a massive JRPG lover, Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite game of all time. Like, I love it so much that I made a two part review video about it. Also, amazing video :)
Awesome video. I wasn't expecting this level of quality from a channel of this size.
Very entertaining video! I really appreciated your thoughts on each aspect of the story and game play. Definitely my favorite JRPG!
I came for the gameplay...but stayed purely because of the best intro ever.

Xenoblade Chronicles was like one of my first game and oh boy... It was just sooo amazing playing it on the Wii back then. When i first played it, i'd never played a jrpg or open world game, and i just loved it soooo much ! I spent hours and hours on it, replaying it numerous times... So when they announced the DE on switch with a dlc at the end ? I had to buy it and i was not disappointed ! As much as i LOVE the Wii original, the graphisms did start to feel a bit old and too pixelized so this new version was a blessing and i enjoyed spending yet another 100+h on a game i already knew by heart.
The dlc content was also a really nice touch, as a Melia and Shulk fan, having a whole 20h post game just about them was amazing.
So yep, if you've never played Xenoblade Chronicles, I can only recomand you to try it cause you won't be disappointed !
As for the 2 other Xenoblade Chronicles (the X and the 2), they're also pretty good games, however, just keep in mind that the 2 IS NOT A SEQUEL to the first. Just like Xenoblade Chronicles X, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesnt actually have much to do with the original on a surface level. You can find easter eggs here and there and a few links in the lore but they definitely aren't actually related apart from their names ^^;
5:58 and i thought the legendary hero was called Duncan ?
Oh shit my bad. Rain too
The Lorethia boss did get nerfed. In the original she pushed you into the poison water instead of just standing there.
Wow, you dislike the new Engage the Enemy, I thought I could like this video; jkjk, this was a very fun video to watch. I was already a big JRPG fan when I played Xenoblade - it still blew me away, but not quite on the level it seems to have done for you. It's nice to see what a fresh experience of the game is like
I'm actually with you against grinding in JRPGs, I don't like when it becomes necessary for progress; games like Xenoblade, Bravely, or Cosmic Star - to name some of my favorites - tend to be good so long as you do the battles you happen to encounter along the way, which is a vastly prefered experience to me
Also, you should absolutely play Persona 5 Royal!
You did an amazing job on this video! Keep it up!
holy shit this video's great thank you for making this
thank u for watching
Just looking at the title of the video, I agree that Xenoblade Chronicles is the best JRPG. It’s world, story, and gameplay was stunning.
I played this on the New 3DS and I was floored by how interesting and expansive this game was
I'm currently watching a streamer named DeeBeeGeek play it for the first time ever and it's a blast I highly recommend it if you ever have free time. He uploaded the first episode on his youtube channel
Oh perfect! I'll give it a look!
Yesss he’s so wholesome
@@Javifaa I agree
As I replayed I learned of agility and how busted it can be in game (and make characters like Dunban a god, or even a slow man like reyn a super fast wall, practically a speeding truck)
I even played the 3ds, but couldn’t get past the either mine heh. Just wasn’t as fun I guess, but definitive really makes the wonderful memories I have of the game even better. I can play it anytime and either learn new things, or find new ways to play I enjoy. Final party always is now, shulk, “seven”, and Dunban.
Yes, play Fire Emblem Three Houses! It's an amazing game and an amazing series!
BRO WHAT I LOVE PROFESSOR LAYTON AND STUDIO GHIBLI OFC ILL TRY THAT THANK YOU
@@Snugboy AAAAAAA IM SO HAPPY YOU'RE CONSIDERING PLAYING IT! It's one of, if not, my favorite games ever and i severally underrated imo! Please tell me what your thoughts are if you do play it!
@@Hallez.P oh my god how can’t I after that enthusiasm??? I am very excited to play it!!!
Alternate title: Xenoblade Chronicles is the only JRPG I’ve ever played
Yes 💅
That American Shulk bit was gold. Pure comedic meme gold.
5:10 He's in XC2
I swear until today I could not have cared less about Xenoblade Chronicles. Fantastic work yet again!

Dude he is absolutely fucked in smash.... which is why I main him 😏
@@Snugboy I respect the hussle
And oh boy… PLAY. XENOBLADE. CHRONICLES. 2. It‘s equally worth it and the story just goes bonkers at the end as well. I even like 2 more then 1. 2 may start slow and has strange moments at first but it really goes up tenfold later. Especially the first cutscene of the last chapter with make you nut or just shut your brain off in disbelieve because it is just so crazy. It‘ll make you feel little… (and cough cough Rex may or may not get a new outfit as well that Smash Ultimate spoiled but yeah cough cough)
Wait you had to grind on Monsters? You can get EXP for exploring the map
Side quest + exploration and you don't need to grind until you hit post game.
I was a stupid young boy. Naive and stupid.
I would like to recommend nier automata and xenoblade chronicles 2.
Dude you gotta play Yes VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. If you loved XC for it's story and characters you're gonna fall from your couch - in a good way ;) it has been a great discovery and cannot recommend it enough!! Great vid btw!!
Can someone explain to me were did dunban gets his katana after he loses the monado and shulk picks it up
Well I’m sold. I’m really eager to try this out now!
I can confirm this is the best game I have ever played- My 5 year old daughter had her eyes glued the entire time I replayed the definite edition - which says alot - I understand its not for everyone - but litereally this inferior game has HEART 2 HEART
You're a real Heropon for this video!
Bro have I got the weekly live stream series for you (it’s me playing xenoblade 2)
@@Snugboy oh neat
This game and its sequel are some of my favorites of all time. (though XBC2 does have an abysmal beginning) They truly are something special.
Yh I don't understand what monolith were thinking when they made the start of the game but once you to uraya the game gets alot more fun
16:38 I'm fuckin literally in tears omg I haven't laughed this hard in soooo long omg this game is fucking peak awesomeness
Awlroighty!!!
I laughed so hard when you said "Who the fuck is Adam?"
Switch version is much better than the 3ds version as it has loads of improvements
Bravely default, Miitopia, Persona 4 Golden and Octopath are up there with Xenoblade for me.
All have amazing sound tracks and surprisingly amazing stories.
Miitopia?

*spoilers*
The great sage being possessed in the second act of the game. Yeah it’s nowhere near as good as Xenoblade story wise but considering I expected nothing too big in terms of plot for a Mii game that why I think that.
i love how you, also like me, played xenoblade because of all the interesting characters in super smash bros.
“That’s literally a 40 year old man”
*foreshadowing*
Always appreciate when people spread the love for xenoblade!
Dragon Quest 11 also has a British dub so might wanna check that out
