So 30something female here, I was my Papa’s shadow for 13,years and he had me building gazebos, building my forts, anything outside and creating. So now convincing husband on building my skooloie. I’m doing research, u by far THE GOAT OF SKOOLIE BUILDING! Thanks, ur tips r going to seal the deal💚💚J.Covert-Bradley
My Hubby and I are addicted to your videos! We started watching about 2 weeks ago. Learning so much from you as we are doing our research on building out our minibus.
Once again another absolute masterpiece tutorial. Chuck Cassidy is THE AUTHORITY in all things skoolie. There is no other man that has more knowledge about building out a bus than him.
The grooves/curve doesn’t look cool, it look super cool, and I love the router idea to cut out the window openings. I don’t own a router and you know anyone trying to do a project where you have to get a new tool is the best kind of project. Thanks, for all your wisdom!
Chuck, I have been searching around your channel (I'm new here, but have already watched some 20+ videos) for any details on what you have been doing for flooring in your busses? Hardwood? LVP? Glued? Floating?
The laser level is a great idea but no mention of getting the bus level and keeping it level I have 4 slide on camper supports I put under my back bumper and front bull bar to get and keep it level. I have done 6 showers now for myself and others with fiberglass and gelcoat the oldest is 10 years old and no leaks, joins or mold and it is light and strengthens the enclosure, you can use fillets in the corners and fiberglass it all the way to the drain.
No naps, work to do. Amazing cool tips, tricks and tools. Thanks for the links, helpful. The curved wall trick has unlimited options one could run with that build technique and go total abstract 💯🤙🍀
There are some tools that you need to build things. Circular saw, router, cutoff saw, drill, and yes, an angle grinder. I'm a weekend warrior having built things like a pool deck with a curved staircase and sliding gate, a 6' long table light fixture, a media cabinet integrated into a mantle etc. And then there are some tools just so you can tell your friends that yes, as a matter of fact, you do have a keyhole bit for your router and a biscuit joiner. Because there's nothing better than your buddies going "oh, wow, I wish I had a need for those". Not that I do, but I have them!
Are you planning to use micro-cement for inside the shower? I know you wanted to hold it as a surprise but the anticipation is too much as I watch this bus moving closer to completion. Also to confirm the tightness, would it be a good idea to run air into the bathroom compartment so you can spot possible problem areas?
Chuck, is the drill on that countersinking drill bit tapered? It looks like it from the video. As an alternative to the track saw I use an 8ft 2 piece straight edge I got at one of the big box home stores. It has a 1/4 in lip on one side and I just set that 4" back (the distance from the edge of the foot to the blade) from where I want the line to be and use my regular circular saw. If you make a mistake it's always longer than you want so just take a second pass to clean it up. Works great and it's a WHOLE lot cheaper than a track saw. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
Awesome video as always. Where did you pick up that adjustable angle maker. I have seen every tool you have used on the channel, but that's a new one and looks pretty magical to help get the roof curve correct. Keep up the great work and keep pushing. 👍
Thank you. What glue do you use to fill the cuts for the curve? Do you mix sawdust into the glue? How to you determine how deep the cuts need to be & how many cuts?
Another great video, thanks so much! Love the curved wall you installed... I kerf wood like you did in creating borders in landscapes and was thinking that you should note how deep you make those cuts in the plywood so that viewers don't over do it (or under do it) when creating their own curved walls, so the end result is as great as yours. Dig that wall paper too! Keep up the great and informative videos!
What is the advantage to adding your interior walls directly to the strapping before the exterior? Verses skinning all exterior walls and ceiling first and then adding the interior ones to that or with longer screws through it? I'm thinking the pocket screws would still work at all the strapping points of contact and you could use longer screws to attach interior walls through the surface of exterior walls. I get that it hides the scribed edge and makes seams tight or rather it's easier to get a tight seam. Another way to ask, is it ok to do exterior walls first to seal off the insulated cavity or is there a disadvantage to doing it that way?
Question: Would it make sense to put in a dehumidifier? Then instead of having the water collect and having to manually dump it, route the water collected from the dehumidifier tank into your water holding tank?
Question, why could you frame it with 1x1(using the same methods that you frame the rest of thebbus with). Fill the gap with a rigid insulation and then put a veneer over it? Itll save weight, take less time and still be rigid enough to be considered a wall
That curved wall is so worth the effort! Question for ya chuck, you said that you were putting in the front and back walls and then bringing in the side walls to hold them in. Essentially locking in your front and back walls. In your buses case, you have your windshield wiper motor under your front wall that is now locked in. If you had to replace the motors, how would you now go about getting at them?
HI Chuck. I have been watching your channel for sometime and am grateful for the advice. In this episode you showed your custom shower pan. I am working with my sheet metal guy on building one now and our only concern is getting a flange dimple for the shower drain... does your outside provider have a special die to do that or could you help with ideas? we are even willing to request a custom pan from your supply if necessary. Thank you!
the first rule of dry wall club is we never admit to knowing how to do drywall ... the second rule is never volunteer to help someone else do drywall ... especially ceilings
Chuck, buddy, you did not link the adjustable curved temp laying tool in the description, or at least I can’t find it. Can you please add that link to the description so I can get one ordered please
6:25 Why hello there, beautiful... where have you been all my life? Like, seriously. Why hasn't this tool shown itself during ANY of the hundreds of google searches I've done for exactly THIS tool?!
where do you come up with the money for this shit man. all the victron, entire bus out of baltic birch, spray foam, advantech (not the worst part). You're not skipping any steps here. Big fan, just a little green over here.
its my job! all the money i get from youtube and consulting and doing solar installs is going into this build, of course i get discounts as contractor, but at the end of the day, there isn't a secret. I bust my ass and there is a reason this build has taken 2.5 years so far
And that's why most builders skip the shower build because it's too complicated. Sad to say they jump into the lake and take their chances with the Meg. lol
I've only seen a handful of youtubers (literally) that could build showers/bathrooms in their van/tiny homes, most just skip it because they just flat out don't know how to do it.

Hahha you’re way too kind

Great work and explanation about the walls

Do I need to disconnect the batteries if I’m doing Welding on my Skoolie?
Don't take the risk when disconnecting is so simple! You should also disconnect or even remove any computers/ECUs.
