I’m really enjoying this game so far. The exploration and treasure hunting is enjoyable. Sometimes I like games where I can just turn my brain off and farm/grind for a few hours so this game is perfect in that regard as the combat system isn’t too complex and there are plenty of different rarity monsters you can hunt down and recruit.
Exactly this. A Casual title, and I mean that without judgement. Like, the kind of you can just pick up and play and put down like it's no big deal. This is a great kind of game for a number of people. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying it!
I’ve been curious about this game lately. I just got out of a big surgery and this seems to be something that’s just fun and laid back. I love all the dragon quest main games and grew up with the dragon warrior monsters games as well. I’ve been thinking of trying this one or the builders games but this one seems a bit more fun to me. I guess my question is which one do you think would be the most fun and relaxing to play while being stuck in bed for the next 3-4 weeks.
I love “short session on the go” games (like Fantasy Life on 3DS, for example), so I really think I’m gonna like this one. I fell in love with Dragon Quest while playing Dragon Quest 9, the one that’s always considered “the weird outlier,” so I think I will enjoy Treasures. At least, I hope! Regardless, I came to Dragon Quest for the JRPG elements but I ended up staying for the puns and A+ localization and with names like Oozabella I’m not disappointed.
I am enjoying this a lot so far. I am only 4 hours in, but it is extremely light hearted, charming and kind of goofy. It is the perfect game to compliment my play through of Tactics Ogre.
I LOVE this game! I'm already 30h in, doing some post game quests. At first I wasn't fully sold on the combat... Until I started playing around with the slingshot to target enemy weaknesses and complete "attack chains", the medley suggestions that pop up when you chain different attack types. The combat is definitely more in depth than I originally thought! I've been very busy at work so I haven't had much time for gaming, playing DQT in short sessions has been great for me. Highly recommended for kids, new gamers in general as well as busy adults!
Loved this review, I appreciate your ability to be generous to the game while it is clearly not going to be making any game of the year lists. I am a sucker for dragon quest through and through, and think this is something I can use to hold me over while I await the next mainline entry.
Yeah, I was thinking this could be a solid palate cleanser title between larger, higher-stakes RPGs. The kind of thing you could plug a few hours into and come back to a couple weeks later and pick up where you left off, you know?
I've grown weary of games with overly convoluted storylines or that take themselves too seriously and have been dipping my toes into "Cozy Games" on my switch. Harvestella, the Rune Factory games... The Atelier series and the like and this looks like it'll fit in perfectly with that niche.
Casual play style is really enjoyable. It nice to have these types of games. Agreed, it feel like you pick it up and put down any time of the day. I'm enjoying the simple graphics of the game. I do wish grass was done better.
This is one I’ve really been looking forward to. As hyped as I am to picking this one up when I get a chance, I do know to keep my expectations in check and to hype responsibly. Thanks Derek.
Me too! I've been eyeing this one for a while. Talked about it frequently when it was still "Dragon Quest Monsters Joker II" or something. It's different, but it ain't bad.
I definitely want to pick this one up. I really enjoy a nice light-hearted, Saturday morning cartoon-y style adventure between all the big epics I've been playing. I also love recruiting monsters, and using them to help with BotW-style traversal is brilliant. Also, and I know I am the extreme minority here, but I actually like the midi DQ music more than the orchestral versions xD
I really like having DQ games that aren’t as complex as 11S. Both this and builders 2 are great for being able to just pick up and play, not having to worry about what major story revelation just occurred
I'm a sucker for these types of games. Had to get it day one. Plus I've been missing dragon quest, and after 100% ing pokemon recently this was perfect timing 😁
Dragon Quest XI S actually looked really good on the Switch, so I don't think "it looks like this because it's on the Switch" is really a good excuse. I mean, Breath of the Wild is on the Switch too. Still, this looks fun and I'm excited to pick it up soon! Dragon Quest games just have a happy mood to them that I appreciate.
Looks like a good palate cleanser kind of game. I’ve been interested since it was announced but will probably wait a while to get it as there are too many other games that rank higher on my list coming out right now.
I would be really interested to know how people who liked/ loved Dragon Quest Builders (1or2) feel about this game. Because personally, I really enjoyed DQB and the second one was even better.
I am playing Dragon Quest monsters 2 GBC right now. So I've definitely think I will pick up this game. He's had kind of the same feeling. Catching monsters and all that.❤
@@SuperDerek OK, pretty cool. Thanks for the info. I hope they make a Dragon Quest Joker 4. I like that it's kinda like Pokémon but Has a different type of game play.😋

I am planning on picking this up sometime, but it being an Action RPG is almost a deal-breaker. Graphics don't matter to me as much as things running smoothly, and the switch is my console of choice

This went straight on my Christmas list when it was announced. I love the characters in DQ11, and it seems like exactly the kind of lighthearted don't-need-to-think-too-much kind of game to contrast with P5R, which I've been playing (and loving!!!) for the first time since it came to the switch. Shame about the action based combat, but it's fine for a spinoff. My only fear is that I've heard rumours that the next mainline game will also be action-based, and I really really don't want that... But in this game, I think it'll be fine 😊
This game looks fun! May pick it up at some point. Just finished the new Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song remaster and hopping back to Tactics Ogre Reborn, man I'm drowning in these recent Square releases.
So on the fence with this. I absolutely love dragon quest but the lightweight action button mashing combat isn't selling it for me. How much depth does the game have? Can I expect 50+ hours from it or is it a quick run through and done game?.
I loved the Dragon Warrior Monsters series, especially the second one. Is this anything like it? Sure I am like 30years older already, but still... my son (8) seems interested. Might aswell buy it for the both of us. Both played Monster Hunter Stories2 and Nexomon for what it's worth.
I actually think there was a dragon quest 11 reference in that Eric wished for a hot bath and in the town in dq11 he went straight to the baths, maybe im over reading it 😂😂😂
I changed the voices to Japanese for Monster Hunter Stories 2 and I felt it made the story feel more serious as well. Doesn’t work all the time, and I play almost every game in English.
To anyone that is a fan of DQ and enjoy real time combat, I cannot recommend highly enough Dragon Quest Heroes 2. Yes it is sort of a Dynasty Warriors style game, only not really at all? I think a lot of people skipped it thinking it was just a lame Dynasty warriors “musou” game. What it really is, is a sprawling DA RPG with large open maps and fast snappy real time combat like in a DW game, only you don’t fight hundreds of grunts on a set map with gated off sections, rooms, arenas etc.. Also, unlike this game, it looks good, runs good ( on anything not the Switch ), is fairly long, and has a lot of playable Characters and quests. It is about 20 times better than DQT. 👍🏻
