      I had never heard of the contact to wear at night. I would love to see if my granddaughter is a candidate for those. She keeps breaking/losing her glasses. And I didn't know that looking at things like phones and tablets is so damaging. I watch UA-cam and Prime Video on my phone. I got out my computer last night and used it instead.

      This is going to sound really pedantic but I recently interviewed at a biopharma company and one of the drugs in their pipeline involves eye drops at a certain concentration that are given to children to stop myopia. It inhibits the degradation of dopamine levels and will be on the market within next three years if all goes accordingly. This drug is at the third stage undergoing FDA approval. They are currently wrapping up trial testing in Europe which so far, has shown excellent results. I would also like to add that the eye drops is only effective for children. Also this is one of my favorite channels!

      Hi there! Maybe reducing screen time isn't an option. However, you do have an option to stop your vision getting worse. What is it? Wearing weaker glasses for screen use. The problem with wearing full prescription glasses for close-up is that it causes hyperopic defocus. In simple terms - it makes someone more myopic.
      I used this technique to reverse my myopia from -2.00 to 20/20. I am also helping others do the same at my channel and with my courses.

    I'm one of four kids with myopia of various levels, our parents had good eyesight until their 50's when they needed reading classes. I started wearing RGP (rigid gas permeable) contacts when you still needed to sign a waver that they were experimental ;) I tried the new soft lenses in my 20's but after a few days, I couldn't see distance, so back to RGP. Finally, last year, after tired of blurry middle zone (6 feet) and needing readers much of the time, I gave up and started wearing my progressive glasses all the time. 6 months later at my next eye exam, my right eye had changed enough to need a new prescription. I wonder if wearing RGP all those years (46 years) prevented myopia creep? I'll ask my specialist at my next retinal exam.

I was born blind, had glaucoma, surgery at weeks old gave me my sight back, but I have nystagmus, colobomas in each eye and obvious extreeme myopia. @@DoctorEyeHealth yep, and I have horizontal nystagmus on top of it, almost certainly due to sensory impoverishment in the visual cortices; not having sight during a fairly critical developmental period (age). Docs have said it is "ICE-like" but haven't pinned anything down definitively, thankfully it has been stable since the surgeries. I see 20/40-20/50 on a good day, but functionally I'm 20/70-20/80, as damping the nystagmus is so incredibly difficult when reading.

      I am currently working to get new contacts and glasses...took me 8 months last time, hoping it doesn't take another 8 months this time around :( I have a bunch of trial lenses at home and through experimentation today, it appears that my most recent test pair of contacts are over "minus-ing" me by about a diopter in my left eye.
      If I don't get things just right the nystagmus will never dampen fully (at the null point) and it makes my eye muscles feel so sore...so yeah, what I see and feel at the docs office, through the scope, is never the full story; I could test the best ever and then, at home, my eyes feel they are fighting and the nystagmus becomes uncontrollable :(

    My poor eyesight progressed just as you described - from grade school on. My dad was nearsighted so there is that. The school nurse got a phone call in the middle of my 3rd grade eye exam. When she was done, she dismissed me with no comment on the fact that I could not see the eye chart. Because of the interruption- she forgot all about me and my eye problem. Fast forward 2 years worth of failing grades later - a new eye test and finally glasses (they all found out I WAS really smart, just nearsighted!). I marvelled at the actual individual leaves on the trees, the writing on the blackboard, my teacher's face. My eyes got worse over the years till now I have -5.50/-2.50 in both eyes (not exact rx) and I have astigmatism as well. I am 60 now. Even though I have progressives, I usually look over the top of my glasses to see very close - which is in focus 6 inches from my face. After years of foggy glasses that constantly slip down my tiny nose, I am happy to have contacts again. Eyeglasses have come a long way since the days of my heavy coke bottle tortoise shell specs. The thinner, lighter, almost invisible lens that darkens in sunlight makes wearing glasses bearable, but contacts are the best. Do the corrective hard lenses that are applied at bedtime work for adults? Does the re-shaping effect last throughout the day? Can you still see at night with the lenses in? I wonder if they would help me.

Just make sure you don't cut corners keeping them clean and disinfected because an eye infection and/or a cut cornea is just AWFUL! you can avoid a cut cornea by never over-wearing your lenses! I did it and ended up wearing eye patches on BOTH eyes for 48 hours - and the cuts - microscopic almost - hurt like hell). @@k-addictt6315 I am surprised you weren't amazed at all you could see with your new glasses. Sounds like they are far too strong for you. Get your parents to take you to a different doctor - an OPHTHALMOLOGIST. Bring your glasses. The doctor will tell you everything you need to know about getting contacts. Lasix has come a long way, but I do not recommend it. It can have adverse effects later on in life. If you got your glasses from a mall optometrist, definitely get to an ophthalmologist - who can prescribe contacts that are right for you. DONT go back to the place you got your glasses. That whole experience d ou as not sound right to me. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Also, if you get contacts, follow the directions about cleanliness very closely. Take care of your eyes and your contacts the right way!

    When I wake up in the morning, I have a good vision, but if I read for a prolong period of time, my vision from a far worsen and by the end of the day, it's like I have myopia. When I was younger, this effect would not last for too long, but now, as I age and my job requires me to read almost all day, the myopia don't go away until I sleep. I saw a professionnal who prescribed me glasses to read (even though I have no problem seeing from up close), because she thought that my eyes would need to focus less and that it would help them seeing from a far after my reading sessions. I’m 23 now and I started wearing glasses in 2nd grade, but I’m not up to a -3 yet. Part of why it was hard to move away was I’m very light sensitive and my eyes stay more dilated than someone’s pupils should at my age, so ortho-k was nice to just sleep in, but I need to choose soft contacts that go to the sclera so the edge of my vision isn’t blurry. The Optometrist said I did NOT have a "Torn Retinal or Hole in the Retina," but PVD, where there has been some movement by the Gel in the back of the eye. I am 66 years old and have been "Near sighted" my entire adult life. My time spent on my Smartphone watching UA-cam and NOT having had a "Prescription update" for my glasses has probably enhanced the PVD. Going in for a "Prescription update tomorrow." Recently It has got increased suddenly to -0.5. I can see things clearly in my left eye. But my right can't see clearly and I can feel that right is got a little bigger. I feel eye floaters are more, eye dryness more in right. I think that eye dryness leads to more problems. I used to work on the computer for 5 hours per day at least. What do you think about :
    In normal cases, things closer than 5 meters need eye accomodation to have the image on retina
    The much we use phones, books and small close things ... muscle's function gonna be adapted to see only close things and we get MYOPIA!
    Wearing glasses brings us to the beginning point ... we dont wanna get adapted to see close things only again
    So, why not wearing glasses outside and removing them while reading or using phone?

    Can Orth-K treatment be done by a regular type of optometrist or do I need to see a specialist? I would love to know more about this treatment. I had never heard of it. Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge!

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  4 роки тому

      Any optometrist can do it, but not all may have the experience or tools to fit them. It would be best to call a clinic in your area and ask if they fit Ortho-K and what they charge for that service. I have personally fit them in the past but our clinic doesn't get enough traffic for them right now so we do not even offer it.

    Hello. Do you see patients getting smaller prescriptions for mytopia? There are a lot of people who are stating that they were -5 or -3 (need glasses because of mytopia) and dont need glasses anymore. What do you think about them?

    Dr Allen, would you do a video on multi-focal contacts if you haven't already done so. For example, how they work, whether or not you recommend them and maybe a general review on brands. Thanks so much. I find your videos so informative.

    WOW again I have learned so much! I think the contacts at night is a fantastic idea ! Wish that was an option back when I was young, my daughter is 19 would it be beneficial for her now? (she has been nearsightedness since about 8) Considering her young mum LOL now has cataracts and glaucoma . I realize we should ask her doctor just curious of your thoughts.

    • @DoctorEyeHealth
      @DoctorEyeHealth  5 років тому +2

      Hey Julie! As always I love your comments! Anyone could be fit in Ortho-K lenses as long as their prescription fits the parameters. However, individuals with high astigmatism or nearsightedness over -5 are not the best candidates. Be sure to ask her doctor if its a good option for her.

    I was told to do eye exercises and to have under prescribed lenses for years, they said ot makes your eyes work harder to slow down near sightedness. I wish the night contacts were around when I was a kid. I'm now a -11 but my eyes keep going down .25 every 6 months. I find I can't wear contacts it dries out my eyes so bad with my map dot finger print dystrophy issues. I also have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome so I believe it effects the eyes as well. I wish I could get laser surgery and see my alarm clock and do my makeup easier lol.

    I have a question about myopia with astigmatism. The myopia is mild in one eye and other I'm not sure about. I have astigmatism with axis of 160 in right, cylinder -1.25. Left eye axis 20 with -0.75. Driving in heavy traffic is hard at night. My myopia correction sphere is -0.25. My contacts have no sphere. I think I might have developed myopia in my late 20s, early 30s. I'm 37 now. Since I developed this stuff later in life, is possible that both will progress. I didnt ask my eye doctor about the myopia. I asked about the astigmatism and she said it will change. I've only seen a eye specialist at 31. I sought the eye doctor in July do to concerns with night driving. Maybe I had the astigmatism since my late 20s and it could have progress. I don't know because this is the first time I was told from a eye doctor. I had a biking accident when I ten. I had a helmet on but I flipped over the handle bars. I did some research that part of the brain deals with movement and vision.

    My dad used to wear coke bottle glasses while he was growing up and was a very good student in school. I've seen the black and white pictures of him in his 20s wearing them. But then in his thirties he started a program of eye exercises that included refocusing eyes on the horizon periodically and various other eye exercises and I've never seen him wear glasses since I was big enough to notice. He is now in his 70s and still has good vision. My own need for reading glasses only started when I got a laptop and began spending prolonged periods of time on it. I think I'd better stop doing that.
