Bony M is the name of the group. The group was created by German record producer Frank Farian. Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the group's official line-up were Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett from Jamaica, Maizie Williams from Montserrat, and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. The group was formed in 1976 and achieved popularity during the disco era of the late 1970s. Since the 1980s, various line-ups of the band have performed with differing personnel. Bobby Farrell was a dancer. He was lipsynching Farian's voice. Other songs by Bony M: "Daddy Cool", "Ma Baker", "Sunny", "Brown Girl In The Ring" and "Rivers of Babylon".
Correct, Frank Farian and Bobby Farrell already passed away. Bobby Farrel in 2010 and Frank Farian in January of 2024. Frank Farian was also the producer of the group Milli Vanilli.
I love how international this song is. A melody from the middle east, with lyrics about a Russian priest/advisor to the Tsarina, performed by people from the Caribbean and produced in West Germany.
I saw Bobby and his version of Boney M in Paris 1997. He came out on stage in gold bell bottoms and platform shoes. The show was great and the crowd was massive. A fun memory. 👍🕺⭐️
I was a young kid, around 10 years old, during the Disco era. My parents had a bunch of disco records, ABBA, BEE GEES, and BONEY M. Whenever my parents left me alone in the house, I would play the Boney M albums. I really liked the catchy songs. A few years later I would become an 80's metal head, but I still always had an affinity for Boney M, ABBA, and all the other disco records.
European probably right ? Americans only want to listen to their own crap since they are so self centred . And a lot of their music today is just that crap !
Boney M. is a Euro-Caribbean vocal group that was formed in 1976. I had their greatest hits album. This group had a lot of great songs such as "Daddy Cool", "Ma Baker", "Belfast", "Sunny", "Rivers Of Babylon", "No Woman No Cry", "Brown Girl In The Ring", "Painter Man", "Hooray! Hooray! It's A Holi-Holiday" etc. The videos are quite funny with Bobby Farrell's dancing.
I was already laughing before I hit play, no disappointments, your face was priceless 🤣. Dude wasn't singing, just miming and doing, well.. whatever the heck that was he was doing. These guys were all over the radio here in Australia also, I loved those songs when I was a little kid, so catchy. Thanks so much for a much needed laugh after the work day. ✌❤
US were unfamiliar with Frank Farian's project Boney M. This song was Huge here in Europe. They had many hits and production was really high level.Despite negative criticism from rock medias they've released some of the best Euro disco-funk dance (many even Caribean flavoured) records ever.Lots of today's hit dance tracks can't hold a candle to their Greatest hits.Other great ones are "Sunny"(a cover,)"Gotta Go home"(also gained some new popularity after being sampled,"Daddy Cool" "Let it all be music","Ma Baker"etc.
One of the best disco/dance groups of the 70's lots of big hits all over the world except maybe the US . Members are from the Caribbean but put together by German producer Frank Farian. A lot of chilhood memories . The guy dancing around wore MC Hammer pants before there were MC Hammer pants , he had so much energy I am exhausted just watching the guy !
Boney M! This is a wild one, the guy has so much energy! Some of my favourite songs of theirs are Bahama Mama, brown girl in the ring, rivers of Babylon and their huge Christmas hit Mary’s boy child. They have such catchy tunes, they and Abba were the soundtrack to my early years growing up
One of my all time favourite dance songs! So creative :) They are a German band who put out quite a few albums in the 70's. Brown Girl in the Ring and Rivers of Babylon are two other well known songs from the same album, which I had back in the day. They also had an Xmas album they put out that I still listen to during the holidays. If you read about Rasputin, the Russian "mystic" (fraudster) whose influence helped bring down the Romanovs, you'll understand the song. Looks like he's trying to a bit of Hopak (or his interpretation of it), a Ukrainian dance. Given how incredibly tough it is, I can certainly forgive him for not succeeding!
Rasputin was a historical figure, Russian mystic and faith healer. He is best known for having befriended the imperial family of Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia.
well, in fact - he was a cheater and a sexual maniac (immediately after this song, the porn classic Rasputin was recorded - also in a West German production😇) - Rasputin - in Russian language means: Debauchee, sexual maniac ("rasputi" - to penetrate; synonym for penetration) It is assumed that he was an agent in the service of foreign countries against Russia (they also organized his liquidation in 1917, because they no longer needed him - the revolution was already ready). Queen Alexandra protected him, and the official reason for her affection for Rasputin - he treated her son, a young Russian prince. The real reason - she also worked for foreign interests (she was born a German princess and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria) Rasputin was an occultist and the Russian church was never acknowledge him, but now many people in Russia love him, they even make movies about how he was a good man, even a holy man who healed and performed miracles with prayer. He only increased the discontent of the people and thus hastened the end of the Russian monarchy and the coming to power of anarchists led by communists.. but after all we see that communism did not manage to completely destroy them - they survived - I am not a politician, I am a historian and I try to be objective and not align myself on the one hand.. greetings P. S. I apologize for my bad English. Maybe someone will misunderstand and attack me - but I don't care
'sounds like 20 versions of one song...."You've rread my mind!once i hear one it's like a generic repetition for the almost all the rest that follow. And to make matter worse most of them (if not all) can't stay memorable in my mind.
There are 5 members of Boney M, the main person of the group was Frank Farrian who wrote the songs, wrote the music and sung the male voice part that Bobby Farrel mimed to for many years before being allowed to sing.
Boney M and ABBA were probably the most popular pop bands in South Africa in the 1970's and early 1980's. Nearly every song these bands released as singles were number 1 hits (in South Africa).
Boney M was a disco group put together in (West) Germany by producer/ songwriter Frank Farian in the 70's... They became a phenomenon in Europe, Asia & Africa... but their only album to chart in the US was 'Nightflight to Venus' in 1978. In 1989, Frank Farian recorded an album ("Girl you know it's true") and released it as Milli Vanilli w/ 2 guys acting as a singing duo and made them a multi-platinum pop hit... Eventually, they were exposed as Farian revealed that the duo did not sing on the album. And this was after they won a Grammy award 😂 that was the end of Milli Vanilli... Frank Farian passed away in 2024. Frank Farian did the same w/ Boney M in the 1970's... he formed the group w/ 4 members from the Caribbean - 3 women and 1 guy... but only 2 women sang on Boney M records - Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett... Maizie Williams sang backup and the group lip synced their performances... Bobby Farrell was hired as the male dancer but did not sing - he would lip sync to vocals that Frank Farian himself recorded in the studio w/ vocal effects. Boney M debuted in 1976 w/ the album 'Take the heat off me'... and became a hit out the gate w/ disco songs like 'Daddy cool'... covers of the songs 'Sunny'... 'No woman no cry' (originally by Bob Marley) It was followed in 1977 by 'Love for sale' w/ the hits - 'Ma Baker' ... 'Belfast'... Boney M's career peaked in 1978 w/ the album 'Nightflight to Venus'... w/ the hits 'Rasputin' (Based on the myths around controversial Russian 'holy man' Gregori Rasputin, who was linked to Tzar Nicholas of Russia and his wife... Rasputin was brutally killed before the Tzar was overthrown by the Communist revolution. He and his entire family were executed) ... 'Painter man'... and their only US hit single - 'Rivers of Babylon'. 4th album 'Oceans of fantasy' in 1979 had the hits - 'Gotta go home'... 'Two of us' (Beatles cover) as well as a hit single - "Hooray! Hooray! It's a holi-holiday"... The 80's proved detrimental to the 70's disco era and subsequent Boney M albums in 1981, 1984 and 1985 failed commercially and the group disbanded in '85 after their last album 'Eye dance'... Each member toured as their own version of 'Boney M' on their catalog of hits... Bobby Farrell passed away in 2010, his legacy being his dance moves, rather than his voice.
When Milli Vanilli was "exposed" you had to ask: "What did you expect from a Frank Farian created and managed group? Dude sold nearly a BILLION records with the same formula..."
It is something to watch the infinite energy he Bobby has. He mimed the male vocals on their videos. the women are really good with their vocals as well. If you want to see some more crazy dancing, then check out Daddy Cool 1976 video.
Although i am a rock guy, i like their first two albums a lot. Because the songs are so well produced that didn't get old. Now, you can listen to Auroras' version, for me a great one.
Frank Farian (who founded Boney M) wrote and singed the songs. Originally Boney M lip synced in concerts. Farian confessed to orchestrating the events leading to the Milli Vanilli scandal (huge lip syncing scandal revealed after they won a Grammy). Lead Singer Bobby Farrell was an exotic dancer (hence his dance energy.. 😅) when he was found & hired for the band.
I still have that album "Nightflight To Venus" in vinyl ,converted it into flac files so I can hear the album on my media player always with me ! Great aibum great group !
another great Band from UK with a notable lead singer Buster Bloodvessel Bad Manners they were an entertaining Group that were Ska Based, reccommended songs Can Can, My Girl Lollipop, Lip up Fatty
Sopot is a town in Poland, where they started the 'Eastern European Eurovision' contest in the '60s. Finland won it the second time the year after this, 1980 - with the same singer, our female Johnny Logan, Marion. Now they allow countries from all over the world, but the host, Poland, has won it 17 times so far, imagine.
🇬🇧 SteVen, other great songs by 70's group Boney M are...."Daddy Cool" "Belfast" "Ma Baker" (has a great story) "Brown Girl In The Ring" "Rivers Of Babylon"..... Take your pick & enjoy. 😊🎼🎶🕺💃🪩
Steve, someone is extracting the urine, Boney M were a manufactured group in the U.K., They had a few hits in the charts but written and sung by others, fine video as always, take care buddy.
The drums at the start are sampled from Cozy Powell's "Dance with the Devil". Also, the guy dancing doesn't actually sing - I think it's their producer who does the male vocals. The producer also worked with Milli Vanilli (who also didn't sing on their records).
greetings and love from Germany....yes, this dude, Bobby Farell, is still arround...actually he´s still there on stage in the Opera of Sopot, Poland and jumping and bouncing his butt off. 🤣 Naaahh, i´m just kiddn.....he sadly suffert a heart failure and past away on the 30 Dezember in 2010.
Rasputin might of actually saved Alexei, but not in the way the queen thought. Aspirin was a very common pain reliever invented in 1899, but as a platelet agglutination inhibitor, Aspirin promotes bleeding and stops clotting. So Alexei, the youngest child and only son of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna, who was born with hemophilia, or an impaired ability to form blood clots, would have had hemarthrosis, or join pain from bleeding into the joints, very common with hemophilia. Medication like aspirin would cause more bleeding, thus more inflation and pain. However, the common treatment for joint pain was the normally "anti-inflammatory" Aspirin.... Alexei was asking his mom, as an 8-year-old, questions like "When I'm dead, it won't hurt anymore, will it?", so she asked Rasputin for help. Rasputin wrote the queen in 1912, "The little one will not die. Do not allow the doctors to bother him too much." So the royal family stopped medication and little Alexei got better, showing signs of improvement after a day, like "magic." A combination of no more blood thinners and the psychologic effects of going from thinking you're going to die, then hearing a holy man say you will live, may have been the cure. 1916 Rasputin says "If I am killed by common assassins, and especially by my brothers the Russian peasants, you, Tsar of Russia, have nothing to fear, remain on your throne and govern, and you, Russian Tsar, will have nothing to fear for your children, they will reign for hundreds of years in Russia. But if I am murdered by boyars, nobles, and if they shed my blood,[...] if it was your relations who have wrought my death then no one of your family, that is to say, none of your children or relations will remain alive for more than two years. They will be killed by the Russian people. I shall be killed. I am no longer among the living." December 30, 1916, Rasputin dies after Vladimir Purishkevich ,Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, and Prince Felix Yusupov plan an assassination. Invite Rasputin to a housewarming party with poison food. Their cook seemed to have had a change of heart last minute as no poison was found in Rasputin's body, despite eating all of their "tea and cakes laced with cyanide", not wine like the song. Worried that it's already 2:30 am and Rasputin is still as alive, will there still be enough time to hide the body after the poison takes effect? So, Prince Felix Yusupov shoots Rasputin so they can get to hiding the body now, before sun up. Rasputin started to get up, attacked Yusupov, and ran upstairs before he was and was shot again, then bound in cloth, then being dumped into a river. Rumor has it, Rasputin was still alive and broke free of the cloth before drowning or freezing. July 1918, Bolsheviks murdered Tsar Nicolas II, his family, and their closest retainers
Frank Farian, the group's producer, was also responsible for Milli Vanilli -- the duo who got caught lip-synching in the late 1980s. Boney M. were very successful all over Europe and dominated the pop music scene for a few years. Whatever you may think about them today, in their day it was fun to dance to. 🙂
Boney M was a ver y successful group, especially in Europe and germany...the male Voice was Frank Farian, the producer and songwriter....he also produced the group "Milli Vanilli",with fake voices....Check out Boney M with "Belfast" live version...best regards
YES but he wasn't the lead singer he never was just lip synced , Frank Fabian did all the vocals , the lead singer was just the frontman a showman . He was still very impressive with his dance moves !
Just wondered if you've seen Barbra Streisand with Celine Dion (Tell Him) or with Donna Summer (No More Tears) or Neil Diamond (You Don't Bring Me Flowers). Totally different but still totally Streisand.
I haven’t seen any of those! Which one do you recommend if you had to choose one? Definitely want to check out more Barbra Streisand here on the channel again! 😁
Frank Farian is the same guy who created the group Milli Vanilli in the 80’s. They quickly rose to fame until the track they were lip-syncing to malfunctioned at a performance and it was discovered they could not even sing. Farian had produced all the tracks using other singers and hired Rob Pilates and Fab Morvan to be the face of Milli Vanilli. They had to give their Best New Artist Grammys back and one of them sadly ended up committing sui*ide.
Had to google this one Steven. Apparently, the group was formed by the same person who gave us Milli Vanilla. And similarly, there was some lip syncing going on by some members. However, it seems this didn't bother fans as it did with Milli Vanni in the 80s. Interesting how things change. Also, it seems they were very successful in Europe, but not in North America. Probably why you and I are unfamiliar. It was a fun tune though. Apparently, they've continued to perform up until recently.
The singer is NOT the guy dancing around, it is actually the producer who actually formed this group called Boney M who were extremely famous in the mid seventies. Their 1st hit was "Daddy Cool". Rasputin was never my favorite. Listen to "The Rivers of Babylone" and "Ma Baker". They're way better than this one.
First ! 🥳You should check out (and I never thought I'd be suggesting this): Spice Girls - Wannabe (in the style of System Of A Down) feat. @macglocky from the channel "Ten Second Songs" 😄🤣Endorsed by Shavo him self🤘
@setonhillstudios yeah, i know 🤣😂... it's way better than you think. I tried to do a donation, but I'm waiting for my new bank card to arrive, so i can't right now. But I definitely think it's worth a listen 🎶 🤘
@@unclefungus2011 No worries! I’m not actually taking GUARANTEED requests at the moment because it became too much to deliver on. I will try to give it a look and thanks again for just hanging out and being a part of the Seton Hill Family! Have a great day! 😁
@@setonhillstudios Ahh, ok. I understand and respect that. I don't envy you in that regard, 'cause I imagine it's hard to try to react to every request when they just keep piling up. It's important to keep the balance, so you don't drown in a sea of other peoples expectations (that sounded more fancy than intended🤣). I appreciate your time, and your reactions. Much love all the way from Denmark ☺
For several years they delete or block my comments from the UA-cam center for this area where I live... if I write something that doesn't suit the powers that be (eg I just wrote what the role of Rasputin really was) And now only I see that comment of mine - and no one else!
Don't pay attention to Bobby Farrell's voice. He's not the one who singing, it's Frank Farian, a famous music producer. He's not so good-looking and can't dance, so he hired Farrell as a double. Similar to Milli Vanilli.
Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin (/ræˈspjuːtɪn/; Russian: Григо́рий Ефи́мович Распу́тин [ɡrʲɪˈɡorʲɪj jɪˈfʲiməvʲɪtɕ rɐˈsputʲɪn]; 21 January [O.S. 9 January] 1869 - 30 December [O.S. 17 December] 1916) was a Russian mystic and faith healer. He is best known for having befriended the imperial family of Nicholas II, the last Emperor of Russia, through whom he gained considerable influence in the final years of the Russian Empire. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_Rasputin#:~:text=He%20is%20best%20known%20for,years%20of%20the%20Russian%20Empire.
Well first off you are reacting to rubbish the original audio has been replaced with a over dubbed studio version of Rasputin so the reactions and the dancing you are seeing is off off slightly i suggest you watch boney m live in Dublin Rasputin 1978.
I never thought I would ever give a thumbs down on anything you post Steven. Dude isn't even singing. Its someone else's voice. He is just dancing around on the devils snow. My facials are the same as yours through the whole thing. I can give a lot of lip synched performances a pass if its a great song, but this was a channel changer for 9 year old Jimmy Fingers. I don't need to see any more from Stoney Boney M
Haha 😂 🤣 That’s what a few others said about the lip syncing! 🤦🏻♂️ He was still so ridiculous with those moves I couldn’t look away! Like watching a train about to crash! 😆

another great Band from UK with a notable lead singer Buster Bloodvessel Bad Manners they were an entertaining Group that were Ska Based, reccommended songs Can Can, My Girl Lollipop, Lip up Fatty
You made me laugh, that was great. Fantastic group, not background singers.
So glad!!! He had me cracking up! 🤣
🇬🇧
SteVen, other great songs by 70's group Boney M are...."Daddy Cool" "Belfast" "Ma Baker" (has a great story) "Brown Girl In The Ring" "Rivers Of Babylon"..... Take your pick & enjoy. 😊🎼🎶🕺💃🪩
I had the album that this came out on it was called "Night flight to Venus"
I used to love Boney M. My favourite was their version of Mary’s Boy Child. Please please check it out. It was iconic. Thankyou for a great reaction c
Thanks so much for the recommendation and hanging out! Have a great day! 😁
You would know them, Boney M also sang Rivers Of Babylon and Daddy Cool, lol. They orginally from West Germany
Boney M-home
bm were pop hre in au. had many hits in 70s/80s
🇬🇧
Ooh, I almost forgot. They have a Christmas song called "Mary's Boy Child". Maybe you could play it nearer Xmas. 😁🎼🎶
Wow!!! Such interesting concept for a band! 🤣
Check out Daddy Cool by Boney M. Great tune
greetings and love from Germany....yes, this dude, Bobby Farell, is still arround...actually he´s still there on stage in the Opera of Sopot, Poland and jumping and bouncing his butt off. 🤣
Naaahh, i´m just kiddn.....he sadly suffert a heart failure and past away on the 30 Dezember in 2010.
No, he died in 2010
Yep... you were asleep that day in History class!! 😅
Haha 🤣 It seems I was!
Now you should give Aurora's version a chance to calm you down 👍
Rasputin might of actually saved Alexei, but not in the way the queen thought.
Do not allow the doctors to bother him too much."
So the royal family stopped medication and little Alexei got better, showing signs of improvement after a day, like "magic."
A combination of no more blood thinners and the psychologic effects of going from thinking you're going to die, then hearing a holy man say you will live, may have been the cure.
I am no longer among the living."
December 30, 1916, Rasputin dies after Vladimir Purishkevich ,Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich, and Prince Felix Yusupov plan an assassination.
REMEMBER. EVERYTHING BONEY M RELEASED was a big hit LISTEN BEFORE RASPUTIN NIGHIT LIGHT TO VENUS
Seeing as it's about Rasputin, he is stylising some Russian-type dancing.
This is one of the top bands of the 70s and 80s like ABBA. «Sonny» is an awesome cover! Enjoy!
Boney M were big in Germany
Boney M was a ver y successful group, especially in Europe and germany...the male Voice was Frank Farian, the producer and songwriter....he also produced the group "Milli Vanilli",with fake voices....Check out Boney M with "Belfast" live version...best regards
I have actually visited the place where Rasputin was killed.
What?! That’s wild!! I didn’t even know the lure of it all until people started commenting! 😳
@@setonhillstudios He is one of the reasons for the fall of Czar Nicholas II.
The lead singer died in the same hotel that Rasputin was killed in on the same day
Oh wow!! 🤯
YES but he wasn't the lead singer he never was just lip synced , Frank Fabian did all the vocals , the lead singer was just the frontman a showman .
He was still very impressive with his dance moves !
Hahahaha
😳😳
Just wondered if you've seen Barbra Streisand with Celine Dion (Tell Him) or with Donna Summer (No More Tears) or Neil Diamond (You Don't Bring Me Flowers). Totally different but still totally Streisand.
I haven’t seen any of those! Which one do you recommend if you had to choose one? Definitely want to check out more Barbra Streisand here on the channel again! 😁
@@setonhillstudios You're a cruel man! 😀 OK maybe start with Barbra and Donna No More Tears.
@@margaretnicol3423 😂🤣😂 I know, I know!
Thanks for the info! It was a wild one that’s for sure! 🤣
Lmao 🤣 😂😅
🤣😂
The singer is NOT the guy dancing around, it is actually the producer who actually formed this group called Boney M who were extremely famous in the mid seventies. Their 1st hit was "Daddy Cool". Rasputin was never my favorite. Listen to "The Rivers of Babylone" and "Ma Baker". They're way better than this one.
The producer went on to create Milli Vanilli.
Frank fabian is a svegali or musical con artist. @@5stardave
There was two different guys that did this through the years
😂
🤣😂🤣
Rasputin was a wild character. He allegedly survived stabbing and poisoning and was eventually shot to death, twice!
Oh my goodness!! That is wild indeed! 😳
@@setonhillstudios I think a tree fell on him as well!
First ! 🥳You should check out (and I never thought I'd be suggesting this): Spice Girls - Wannabe (in the style of System Of A Down) feat. @macglocky from the channel "Ten Second Songs" 😄🤣Endorsed by Shavo him self🤘
What?! 🤣😳
The coke was real good back then. 😂
🤣😂🤣
Read the lyrics.
The guy on stage was a dancer and not a singer. The male singer was the record producer Frank Farlan and the guy dancing just mimed to his singing.
Rasputin live in russia
😂Do you delete my comments or does UA-cam delete it directly?
I am not even sure how to delete comments so it ain’t me! 🤣
For several years they delete or block my comments from the UA-cam center for this area where I live... if I write something that doesn't suit the powers that be (eg I just wrote what the role of Rasputin really was) And now only I see that comment of mine - and no one else!
@@miroslavgacevic409 It’s so weird!! They pick and choose what gets through many times! 🤦🏻♂️
Just...how...here...did the inspiration come from? Disco? Ancient russian figures? It didn't seem like an instant great idea...
🤣😂
LOTS of cocaine in the 70’s
😂🤣😂
Don't pay attention to Bobby Farrell's voice. He's not the one who singing, it's Frank Farian, a famous music producer. He's not so good-looking and can't dance, so he hired Farrell as a double. Similar to Milli Vanilli.
This song is about a guy in Russia
Now that is lip synching!
There was only 1 female singer on the tracks, all the rest just dancing, great track though
Id rather just listen, not watch 😂😂
😂🤣😂
song subject seems to be russias mad monk-but this?
🤣😂🤣
The guy hopping around on stage is not singing at all. The real singer is a White German man named, Franz Ruther.
Oh snap!!! 🤣😂
Well first off you are reacting to rubbish the original audio has been replaced with a over dubbed studio version of Rasputin so the reactions and the dancing you are seeing is off off slightly i suggest you watch boney m live in Dublin Rasputin 1978.
I’ll have to check it out 👍🏻
I never thought I would ever give a thumbs down on anything you post Steven.
Did someone really request this?? it's awful
Haha 🤣 Actually a few people have mentioned it to me! I had a good laugh from it so it did its job! 😂
