      There is indeed lots we can immediately do but neither Trudeau or Pierre are prepared to do it. Instead of treating China like an enemy simply because the US does, .invite China to invest in Canadian EV plant. And sell them our resources for cheap. They are soon going to be the biggest economy in the world. We should be trading with them just like we do the US. That would not only be a major embarrassment to conservatives in the US (which will hurt them in the midterms) but will also help diversify our economy from overdependence on trade with US. No country should be able to blackmail Canadians like this.

    Negotiations require leverage. Leverage requires strength and independence, a fulcrum point. Ideally, multiple fulcrum points. How did Canada allow itself to become the 51st state by giving up all its leverage? Are we building a nation or a state? Honest question because infrastructure and trade agreements move north south? Not east west? Divide and conquer? Nobody wants to build refineries or add value? Just export raw materials? Why? When keeping it real goes wrong? Real not smart. We need chess masters. Checkers and go fish are not working.

    It means Canadian products imported to the U.S. will be more expensive, causing the sell of our products to potentially go down, and that Americans would buy fewer Canadian products. But Canada can respond by putting tariffs on American products. Either way I don't think it will last. It will not benefit consumers on either side of the border, nor the companies from either side. There are a couple of things Canadians can do. Buy local. Example in the winter we import produce from the U.S. Yesterday instead of buying produce from the U.S. I bought tomatoes on the vine from Mexico. They taste better buy the way. Buy canned products from Canada. Buy products from Italy. Buy clothing from Canada or Europe. Do not buy American. And buy local where ever possible. Find what companies are Canadian. And in spring and summer only buy Canadian produce.

    Auto industry from Canada will move to USA. We don't make a single car here! We assemble them. We need to drop capital gains to 0 as emergency to acquire cars to be built here. A car made in CANADA! EV is failed policy

    • @mydogsbutler
      @mydogsbutler 7 днів тому

      You have things exactly backwards. EV's are the future. Most ICE car plants are going to go bankrupt within a decade or so. China has a booming EV industry both internally and exports. If either of our parties had any cojones they would invite China to build EV plant in Canada like Mexico did. It would also be a major embarrassment to Trump if China was making headway in Canada. Removig American bear from shelves like Ford "threatens" will achieve nothing. Diversifying our economy away from Us to EU, South America, Asia and especially China is what will put pressure. China is going to be the biggest economy in the world in a few years. We should be trading with them to reduce our dependence on any state.

    And Canada can impose the equal amount tariffs on the same things Trump is imposing tariffs on, cancelling each other out. Ex: if Trump imposes 10% more on energy imported from Canada, Canada can then charge 10% more for them to buy it, cancelling out Trump's 10%hike. And same for any other tariffs imposed by Trump.

  • @rockzalt

    It's interesting to note that Premiere Smith's efforts for the oil sector received a reduction in tariff amount while the aggressive approach may cause larger tariffs.
