That first 65 seconds gets to me, every time. There's no comparison to the one I heard in GSCE Music but I remeber hearing it extended. That chill and extatic enthusiasm... wow. When I heard it, I exclaimed "it's like an Eagle!" Mrs. Donnelly Said "Yes! Keeping listening it gets better!"
I'm an Irish dancer, but no where near this level. So, while I still appreciate the dancing, I also adore the beat they make (why I came here was because of the beat the dancers made in the recording, which I was listening to this morning =]).
The only other people who have done justice to this piece of music are Colin Dunne, Flatley himself, Bourne and Kraatz and especially Jason Brown. Hell, Jason Brown got a message from the composer Bill Whelan himself saying how much enjoyed Jason's performance. No National medal can touch that.
I saw them in 2011, and hoped to see them again. Their last tour in the US was called the "Farewell Tour", so it implies that could be the last we see of Riverdance. Recently, it was announced that they will preform in Limerick in 2014. But, for what we know as of now, Riverdance is done touring once they go back to Ireland.
Olympic All-Around Gymnastics Champion Andree Raducan brought me here. She used this as the music for her floor routine starting at 4:23. Was bloody epic! Loved it!
The flute reminds me of a part of a G.K. Chesterton poem: "The great Gaels of Ireland are men that God made mad; for all their wars are merry, And all their songs are sad."
Riverdance comes to Los Angeles in 2014(I hope). Riverdance is currently touring in China until February, 2013 from there they will be going back home to Ireland until September.
But if you're at this level, you (almost) practice until you die... You dance with the troupe, you sleep with the troupe, you laugh, cry,.eat and travel with the troupe. It looks fun to be so incredibly popular, but it takes a huge toll on your social life...

Michael Flatley sort of "invented" (if that is the right word) the riverdance idea - he is Lord of the Dance, but in various shows they had different lead dancer stars. I was lucky enough to see Brendan de Gallei live when he was on tour with his female co-star Joanna (forgot her last name) and he was amazine. Much better than Flatley IMPO. Look how he moves across the stage - plus it doesnt hurt that he is super hot
