533 - Northowram (Halifax) Drivers eye view

- This is the 533 route video. Our depot runs this service after the 343 (Huddersfield-Halifax) before departing back to Huddersfield. We alternate between the 533 and 534 every hour.
534 is the complete reverse route.
There’s some tight sections to this route and is only viable with a small bus - we use Optare solo’s for this route.

I've been riding the buses since the 90s but never had the opportunity to check out a lot of the local Halifax routes but since I was always curious about the terminus of this route (it seemed bizarre to use such an insignificant street name (Stephens Close) as the advertised destination) I'm really happy to see that somebody recorded this route! I always knew it as the 534 and would regularly see Leyland Olympians on the route which would surely have been a fantastic experience!
Update: After viewing the entire video I have a few questions. I know Halifax is known for unusually placed bus stops, but at 08:41 the stop is way beyond the point of the right turn. I believe the route originally continued farther down that road before doing a turn and coming back up to make the sharp turn, but after two decades perhaps they could move the stop a few yards lower?
Also, two bus stops at Stephen's Close? 🤔
The grass looks much greener here then in Holland. Very Nice country-side with blue heavens. A good promotion video for the bus-line!

Blimey that is tight. Very similar to one of the routes I drive. We have Enviro 200s on it and they are far too big for the roads it goes down. Still though it tests your skills as a driver, boring going up and down big wide roads all day 😉

That Yorkshire Bus Driver yep! Makes me laugh watching some drivers if they have to reverse. It’s like they’ve only been taught to go forwards 😉
I’m on that route today actually. Might try and grab a video of it. Last time I tried it was dark and it turned out terrible! Still on my channel though if you fancy having a look 😊
