Kurama and Karasu are hella beautiful.
kurama's actor, jun shison, told the crew to recast for the role. he was hospitalized due to acute myocarditis before the filming of the show and even tested positive for covid during that year. he thought they needed to recast for the role because of his condition. that is why i feel sad whenever i see people say he did badly in the show because of his wig and he is not beautiful enough for their standards. i just want them to appreciate his efforts because all of the actors, especially him, did the stunts themselves.

@@faizalamirbashiira4565 yes, he is beautiful. japanese live actions really do give their actors bad wigs. the only exception to bad wig was my happy marriage. the actor for kiyoka kudo looked good with his wig and the wig itself looked real.
Kurama's wig is ugly, they could've just gone with a more natural look. But i think the actor did a good job
Fun fact about Kurama in the live-action: he's played by a Power Ranger! Or to be more accurate, his actor, Jun Shison, played the Red Ranger of the Super Sentai team Ressha Sentai ToQger. And if you listen to the English dub for this live-action, he is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch, a VA who got his start playing Adam Park on Power Rangers from MMPR to Turbo.

Kurama’s fight in this combined multiple of his Dark Tourney fights.
The death plant he used was first used/introduced against Roto in like round one or two of the tournament & was later used to kill Karasu. Yoko first appeared in his fight against Uraurishima in the semi-finals. His fight in the live action against Karasu is the one that told me they put a lot of thought into how they were going to condense/streamline things into the 5 episode frame work.
Also, Hiei vs. Bui… Bui made Hiei use the dragon here, kinda like how Zeru in round one of the tourney forced Hiei’s hand. Hiei didn’t want to use the dragon that early in the tourney, but he was basically backed into a corner.. Bui did that here. Hiei had the marking of the dragon on his arm, but he didn’t intend to use it in the instance that he did. So like.. I really like how they handled those two fights.
They also made Kurama’s fighting so much more engaging to watch. In the anime we got a lot of the inner monologuing/thought process in Kurama’s head. We don’t get that in the LA. The way they translated Kurama’s fighting was just so well done for this format.
I’m still in shock over how fucking good they made the dragon look in this. I was so worried about that and how they’d make it look. They absolutely nailed Team Toguro’s appearances to a T.
Bui, aside from his hair color, was a mirror image of his anime/manga counterpart. I was shook. (Also, Hiei refused to kill Bui when he asked him to in both the manga and the anime. They changed the line. In the anime, at least, he told Bui to do it himself if he wanted death so bad.)
I like that they transferred Keiko’s slaps into being taught some maneuvers by Yusuke. I really really like the attention they’ve given Keiko.
Honestly they also just nailed down Elder Toguro’s ability the best they possibly could. There was so much challenge to what he could do, and it doesn’t really look tacky.
This was announced either at the end of 2020 or early 2021. They spent two years filming, per an interview with the leading four cast- and it really feels like it.
I do wanna mention… You and I have the same thoughts about the Genkai thing though. It bothers me, but I also just have no answer on how they could have done it within a 5 episode framework. That said, I’m still really happy about the overall result that we got.
This series is my baby, and I do like… annual rewatches. It holds a special place in my heart, so I am beyond thankful that this live action did not butcher the source material. I think they had to decide higher episode count & lower quality effects- or put more into the vfx and shorter episode count. And I agree with the decision if that’s what it came down to. Because this looked so good and aside from the Genkai bit, they did really, really well.

Toguro Elder made me realize it IS posible to do Mahito in live action and the fight choreography would be INSANE!!!
Like, apparently Kurama DIDN'T have a CGI double?! That was all just HIM ON A CIRCULAR RIG?!?! IMAGINE Gojo with that shit!
I really love Kurama’s fight in this episode. I also loved every character’s movement and choreography, it made me feel like anime comes to real life! I understand that they couldn’t made it exactly as in original version. That would be too long, too hard to make, and the budget will never be enough. So this is the best adaptation, I think.
This episode made up for Keiko not carrying Yuske out of the fire she's way more of a badass here and the action just keeps getting better. But also I've never felt the show was more truncated than in this episode. Unfortunately I have a hard time believing too many people that aren't nostalgic for the series have really fallen in love with everyone and truly feel the stakes.

That plant kurama used to end the fight was the one he used in his first fight in the tournament in the anime.
Indeed, but here Karasu doesn't have the knowledge of it like he did in the anime when Kurama tried pulling that trick on him with Karasu telling him that's not going to work as goes to show just how dangerous Kurama is when one doesn't have info on him so really neat difference in showcasing Kurama could have ended their fight in the anime sooner if not for Karasu gathering intel in observing Kurama's prior fights.
Japanese know how to work with anime/manga style of camera angle and choreography. Just like in recent tokustatsu like super sentai and kamen rider also very cool looking fight scenes. Not the CG but the camera angle and choreo really2 cool. Imagine if they had more budget? damn..
The fights were amazing and I really enjoyed this episode! They really nailed it with characters on both sides! ❤
They could have includes Genkai during the travel to the Island with the cover on her face just like the anime since she was part of the team in the anime and have her killed by the younger Toguro Infront of Yusuke that would would be epic... At least we get the vibes... You know what I am saying...

🌹🔥Kurama BODIED this fight! Really wish Netflix trusted the new popularity of KDramas in the US and gave us a fleshed out full season. I understand not wanting to roll the dice with anime adaptations but I feel cheated.
Seeing hiei summon dragon from hand make me happy think its will work on flame of rekka too...
The casting of Genkai is perfect, she is a very senior and good actress with a very suitable background, but there is only one episode, that is too strange...
Basically I think they don't have the money to keep her on the show so kill her off early to avoid burning money
Of course, it’s just personal imagination, there are more weird possibilities in reality XD
So, I'm watching the Karasu v Kurama fight and I'm thinking, not only are we gonna see Yoko, but we might see Dragon of the Darkness Flame as well from Hiei.
I understand the concerns of purists; I had reservations myself. But boy did this episode Keiko punch me back to my childhood.....

I agree with that this made the last episode worth it. Still would've loved to see Byakko or all the JoJo influence incorporated, but maybe they can have the latter for if there's a second season

OP LA vs YYH LA.
One piece: be as true and authentic as possible, budget spent on real sets. Fights much more grounded
Yyh: be genuine but make your own path, fights are a showing of anime fights at anime levels.
Basically one piece got the world and the story better, but fights were bland. Yyh got the fights perfected, but the world and story suffered a bit.
Still, it's a great thing that we got 2 great showings of anime to LA in completely different ways. Hopefully s2 of OP will mix both approaches.
And yes they open to Keiko.
it is still great that netflix is slowly improving with their live actions. if only both of these live actions got more episodes, maybe the flaws could be solved.
@@suechan4040 agreed. More episodes, bigger budgets, probably get the best of both worlds. I'm not dissing either adaptations and feel they are both full successes. One piece is the curse breaker and more successful, but both successful.
I would just like to see them combine some aspects of each. I want fights on the scale of yyh LA fights with world building and authenticity like the OP LA. S2 may be that, seeing how much the fights get scaled up by then.
We all have to agree... They're both better than Cowboy Bebop LA. I'm still angry that it's only 5 episodes instead of 8. Younger Toguro's backstory wasn't explored enough. For those who never watched the anime, you missed out a lot on younger Toguro's character.
@@atheos.1383 as for opla, i think they find it hard to give luffy more fighting scenes because of budget constraints that is why zoro and even sanji have more fighting scenes. i also hope the same thing as you do for the s2. as for yyh la, japanese la's strength will always be the fight scenes. if ever this will get a s2, i hope they will have more episodes to further explore each character's story.
@@joker21st4869a definitely better than cowboy bebop, yes. i am also disappointed it only have 5 episodes. i haven't watch the anime nor read the manga. i only watched this for takumi kitamura but it was such a let down that they didn't fully establish the relationship between yusuke and genkai. when she died and yusuke knew about her death, it was no where sad for me because it didn't make sense how the heck their relationship became deeper for like 20 days without any struggles that will challenge their relationship as mentor and mentee?
if ever they get to have a s2, i hope they will be given the chance to fully show us some character development and story about them.

I did the viewing same as you: I watched the first three episodes over a 3-day period, then watched 4 and 5 together. It really feels like a 2-parter.
But sadly the tournament in not as big as in the anime, that would be more epic.
