Eventhough it is a reasonable serie a lot is missing in the historic explaination. The reasons of why Wilhelm of Orange Naussau who's cause dried out and got new life. Queen Elizabeth had send some troops to support the 'Geuzen' because she did not like the plans of the Naussau's planning an invation from France with support of the French king Charles whom after its big failure denied it out of shame. Much more important history happened which is not covered. Like the early roles of Van den Bergh, Sonoy, Boussu, Marnix and so on. Crucial the First meeting of the free states of Holland, which basically is something this serie tries to wipe under the carpet how and why Holland was so important and became part of the name of the country. Instead there is a lot about the view of the catolics rather than the true nature of success.
I don't think it's swept under the carpet, it's already 7 episodes long so it's cut for time. and because this is is a series for dutch tv it presents a dutch perspective so those things are one of the first to be cut. not saying it's not important but it is understandable that's it's not in there.
As a turkish this part is quite surprised me I didn't knew there was a such motto during 80 years war but they are right. In the 15th century conditions of christians in the Balkans were the best It is ironic but true
Slogan means from the two evils = islam and catholics. Islam is slightly less worse.
So it's not a positive motto for islam at all. They mean protestant christianity best 😂
