The maiden power is Ozpin's magic, he set the rules, one of the rules says no one can hold on to the power forever. So how can the Robot girl who doesn't age get the power? It must be a transfer of aura right? If the goal here is to make the most sense.
@@Alonkis251 Given that the power is based around a cycle of death and rebirth (a.k.a. reincarnation), it is more than reasonable to assume that the power would only move on to a dying vessel. Penny being a robot that can effectively live forever would supersede this apparent requirement. There is the possibility that Penny cannot hold onto a person's aura for extended periods and she will eventually lose this power. As we saw in the video clip Vexed added, we see her seemingly resupplying her aura from her father. We can then reasonably assume that, without the maiden alive, Penny will eventually lose the powers of the maiden at some point. Of course there is always the possibility that the folks over at Rooster Teeth will say "Oh yeah, she has them forever now!" and completely disregard the thematic elements of the Maidens' powers.
vexed you're thinking too hard about it you know kerry & eddie didn't think about the wording the characters used when they wrote it. oh you mentioned how the show runs on negative/distorted continuity.
If it is Ozpin's magic.... That is to say unless of course the four daughters of Ozma, who are dressed in colors similar to the seasons, and have inherited magic powers, may have inherited Ozma's and Salem's regenerative power's as well, and are the first maidens. Which means the rules weren't created by Ozpin. It was shown by Jinn, but not told, so it could be implied but at the same time it is not..... CRWBY why have rules if you can't be consistent?
So in other words, Penny has both Pietro's and Fria's aura because Penny is also walking aura sucking machine? Not gonna lie. That is literally the only explanation I've heard that honestly makes sense with the rules of the show (or at least for Maiden powers).
Its also kinda cool conceptually too to have a machine that sucks auras. There's probably a lot of interesting drama to be had with Penny realizing she's kind of a monster like that, and now a monster with godlike powers she got but never wanted. Though this is RWBY, so the writers won't think to go that direction and instead make her completely unaffected, and simply a mcguffin that Vol8 will be based around.
@@alexhussinger3550 They just want a Maiden to follow Ruby and her tiny cult no matter what. So they revived penny and gave her the "Walking Eternal Maiden" plot point again.
Because she is a robot, like that has to be the easiest justification to bring a character back, if they didn't bring her back Vexed and others would be like "It was a missed chance not bringing Penny back since she is a robot"
@Jia Chong No she doesn't lol. She died and was gone. Pietro gives away some of his to give her life each time.. she doesn't have a soul.. atleast not one that's exclusive to her.

@@ethank4692 Doesn’t really make sense since since shes mostly a machine. Info like memories should be easily backed up *somewhere.* Kinda comes off as forced drama at that point. We’re better off keeping her dead
TBH I thought that the reason they made Penny in the first place was to create an eternal Maiden, who would never grow old and could always be rebuilt. That way the Maiden's power never leaves their control. But then we find out that Winter was next in line, and I'm left scratching my head as to why Penny was made in the first place, and why Cinder brought attention to Ironwood disguising a robot as a little girl in Volume 3. If that wasn't their plan, then why bother giving Penny a personality and everything?
I think that would've been a more interesting arc they could've done with Penny. Like have Penny be the original candidate for the Maiden powers, but due to how things look dire since the Fall of Beacon, Ironwood or whoever don't want to risk losing the Maiden powers due to Penny's nature as a robot. They're waiting for Fria to die naturally, so it seems they want the Winter Maiden's power to transfer naturally, but will that method really work with a robot? "Will it actually work? Can we really afford to risk this? No, let's use Winter instead, she's human and young so the power is guaranteed to transfer to her." So Penny is designated to be Mantle's Protector instead. While she understands the decision, this does upset Penny. Maybe she tries proving that she's just as human as everyone else or something, I don't know. But I think that would've made Penny becoming the Winter Maiden a better pay off instead of her being framed, which ultimately amounted to nothing.
That was Pietro's project. Ironwood didn't order Pietro to make her, he made her because he wanted a daughter to love, and he wanted her to be able to defend herself and her home. That's why she has a personality, and that's why she was at Beacon - to learn from other Huntsmen.
@@alexmercer2743 But Pietro got his funding from Ironwood, didn't he? So why did James think that Penny was a more important project than what Watts had to offer?
They probably originally had that idea, but wanted more drama so made Winter next in line. Although her name also leads one to ask if she was actually planned from the start all along, but changed their mind and gave it to Penny because logically she was the only other person who could get it.
@@Pebphiz I'm willing to bet Ironwood was more interested in Pietro's work on Aura transfer. He would have needed it to ensure that the Maiden powers stayed with trusted Hosts, and Penny was just a byproduct. That's a little headcanon-y, but the logic is sound.
Winter was so underutilized, I was rooting for her to be the Maiden, she would be more interesting as a Maiden than Penny but God forbid anyone on Ironwoood's side scores a W in Vol 7, Weiss doesn't console with Winter before exposing her father thinking about how this could affect the future of the SDC, and that wretched scene where Winter runs from Cinder's Super Mario fireball like a scared little bitch, I was so disappointed.
According to some people, it’s a reference to her being Pinocchio(rather based of the story) The winter maiden is that blue fairy that makes Pinocchio into a real boy.( Penny now being a real girl)
Hey, so other people thought of that comparison too. My version of that, which would require rewriting, is that Penny was actually made from slicing a part the Winter Maiden’s soul/aura rather than from Pietro.
In classic story of Pinocchio, blue fairy made him real body of a boy and, still had puppet body to look back on, "puppet set on the chair, as Pinocchio reflect back talk how foolish puppet was," it went something like that. Sorry it has been over twenty years since I read the classic book, no longer have it. Basically, what getting that, Penny body is not flesh or, blood but, I get where you going with this.
U see, the writers liked penny but didn't know how to make her relevant after bringing her back so they made her a maiden to force her into the main plot.
It's fine they brought Penny back, whats not fine is that it didn't come with a cost, like a loss of memory, heck I would have liked a new penny, name here nickel or some money reference. Hqve her again pretend to be a normal girl. Have ruby tell here what what Penny 1.0 was like and idk what else but it would be better then ripping away the point of pennys death
I mean it makes sense that she didn’t, they recovered her core, the core has all the important functions and memory on it, both matching memory and Penny’s memory
@@Darkness-dv6sz Yeah, but allegedly, Penny has a soul. So, even if you gave a new robot the same memories, it'd arguably still be a different person due to not having the same soul as its predecessor.
@@Darkness-dv6sz Core is a bullshit sci-fi term for it being the same character. Personally I'd rather have them just go with a back up or another Penny that they tried to create the same way but lacked the human connection she got when she went to Beacon.

Oh you mean the christmas cake rules that Winter would still be maiden viable? Wasn't Ironwood original plan was to make Winter a maiden in the first place?
The "she views herself as female" excuse is funny because it would mean that magic itself is able to read Penny's mind and tell that she identifies as female. And also, that the Maiden magic could actually be given to men, but magic refuses to attach itself to a man. Finally, it'd mean that magic willingly attaches itself to murderers like Cinder and Raven, but draws the line at men. Jokes aside, your reasoning does make the most sense. Good catch.
@@paperboy8708 Its a human mindset. They put female and male identification to things for better identification and cause it makes sense. Humans are animals that reproduce after all and sex is a common thing in their minds so it makes sense such objects might be given identification. A outlet is a female port. A plug is a male port that goes into the female port. However then you come to more complex objects like cars, aircraft, and ships. These are usually labeled female. Due to reliability, history, and uses. A robot or machine however can be a male if its designed to be one. A male voice, personality, design etc. In the case of Penny she was designed to resemble a female teenager, she had the voice, she was programmed to at least learn, and its very likely she identified as female. Her creator saw her as a daughter, figure, and her friends saw her as female and identified her as such. She was seen as a girl. If people still want to complain i like to point out that all humans genetically start out as female. As what Dr. Wu in Jurrassic Park said long ago. Its only in the right developmental stage that the embryo can be determined as male. Once it changes mental and physical traits begins to develop that will ensure that person not only is physically male but also mentally identify due to chemical differences in the brain. This can however have some mixups. Like a person with a female mind and a male body, or the opposite. Then you have those who are mixed physically. In the end its all about that persons or individuals view of themselves.

I saw the scene in Vol. 3 and thought "Well she's coming back, she's just a robot after all."
I think what the writers WANTED to show was that Penny was a “real girl”. Problem with that is, no one in the show has ever treated her as anything less. Only things we,ve been shown isPenny being treated more as a person with tons of responsibilities or special circumstances that prevent her from being more of an individual. Maiden powers would kill Ruby. Long story, but remember what happened to Cinder when Ruby used them? And how Salem told Cinder that silver eyes were her weakness? I'm betting Summer Rose had both Maiden Powers and silver eyes, and decided to try to kill Salem. And that is how Salem knows the danger of the two combined, and yet Oz does not know.

Then that would mean Amber is a part of Cinder now...maybe Amber was a stupid person, because Cinder is. That being said, Penny seems to have just two auras in one, like a container. If Penny loses Pietro's aura, does that mean that Fria's personality will show up? As in her soul is now trapped in a robot, cheating death? No, that be too complicated for CRWBY.....
Nah, because Amber got killed and transfered them the natural way. All cinder did was shoot her so thay the rest of magic would rejoin the half she stole with the Grimm bug. I'm guessing Penny is basically a soul jar, and can store Aura and even a Soul. She absorbed the Winter Maiden's soul and therefore is able to wield her Winter Maiden powers. It's like how Cinder uses her Grimm arm to absorb Maiden powers, it's an artificial transfer. Cinder and Penny aren't official Maidens but ones created through artificial interference. As someone mentioned below, why didn't Watts and Salem reverse engineer this tech and basically create a soul jar of their own to hold all the Maiden powers in rather than use the clearly renegade Cinder? I hate how they dealt with Penny's revival, it would have been so interesting if they revived her but she no longer had her old memories, and had to meet everyone again. Sure you can argue that Pietro's Aura transfer allowed her to retain her original memories, but it's clear that piece of his Aura becomes sentient once its put in Penny's body. To me, sentience isn't something you can just copy and paste, it's something you have to start from scratch when new life is born or created. It would have been more interesting if Penny wasn't the same Penny, but rather a Penny 2.0 who was identical in personality but had to re-learn everything. And don't get me started on how they handle the crew's reaction to her being alive, they completely undermined her death and made her return a fucking joke, as if he dying meant jackshit.
I thought it was just simply cause she can have it. Cause saying she cant since shes a robot is an assumption. The same baseless asaumption like the whole "all faunaus can see in the dark" thing when the show explicitly said only *some* faunaus can see in the dark yet people randomly assumed marrow could. Also im assuming the aura transfered cause. Well. We already know penny constantly gets aura transferred to her. From pietro. We been knew that
Not even close to the same thing. We know what the rules are. Yeah you're right, the show explicitly said only some Faunus can see in the dark. When did the show ever say a robot can get the maiden power?
@@VexedViewer Well how do you think new rules get added into stories? Not even new rules persay but anything new in general gets added to a story? Something/an idea has to come from somehwere. You could argue they couldve forshadowed it or something but thats optional and not a necessity.
@@oreoex-rwbyhater599 You're missing the point. The problem isn't new info. It's new info that throws past actions into new perspective. For example faunus eye sight. Blake is a cat. Cat's are nocturnal. We know that not all faunus can see in the dark, but due to deductive reasoning we have every reason to assume that nocturnal animal faunus can see in the dark. But she can't for some reason. We the audience are not suddenly stupid for assuming that. Because if SHE can't see in the dark, then what type of faunus can? Why even mention that some faunus can see in the dark when we get a fight with two faunus fighting in the dark and it's not utilized? With penny it seems like NO ONE had ANY IDEA that that was possible. Which only makes sense if you ignore the previous seasons. Like... it never crossed anyones mind? Ever? No one in ozpins circle ever considered this? Because Penny's been built since season one. She's a robot that has aura. And ozpins group knows maiden magic is attached to aura. So by volume three when everyone found out Penny was a robot, they didn't consider she could get the powers? Then what was ironwoods plan for funding her creation? Why was she built if that wasn't her purpose? Why did ironwood, the head of Atlas military and defense fund an aura robot, that looks like a young girl even, if it wasn't to test and see if they could transfer maiden magic to her? Amber was half dead. Penny would've been perfect to take the other half. Especially if she's a robot. But when penny was destroyed, they used pyrrah as a back up plan B. And perhaps ozpin was really sceptical about putting the power in a robot, so ironwood was going to have Penny win the turnoment to prove she was a strong enough candidate before telling them. At the time that seemed really smart. But we find out that with this new info that that wasn't the intent behind her creation. Meaning that plan that we thought they had, they didn't have at all. They were completely unrelated to each other. With this new info not being told to us till now, it makes it seem like this was pure happenstance. Which makes ironwood and the rest of ozpins group look stupid and pyrrah, as well as ozpin dying was all caused by incomptance and not the villans plan actually being well thought out.
@@lunarrobot9714 Your half right about the blake part. The audience isnt dumb for thinking that blake would but you are dumb for ragging on the writers for not appealing to your headcanon. If they didnt want blake to be one if those faunaus and it was never said that she was then how can you be mad at them because your headcanon got proven wrong? Ironwood couldve made penny for watever reason. I dont see why it specifically had to be for aura. Especially since all we knew back then was she was a robot. We didnt know she could absorb aura till pietro said something. Also im 100% syre everything you said wasnt confirmed or shown unless you were just giving an example cause when did Ozpin ever say penny was the one who should get the aura and not pyrrah? But anyways my only argument is we werent given a reason to beleive a female robot (the show has gone out of its way to let us know the rwbyverse views her as a girl) WHO ABSORBS AURA (as we saw by that time) can get the maiden power and the situation with pyrah helps cause we know people can become maidens without being the last one in there thoughts.

I've never been this early, great video! Wonder what crazy ideas they'll come up with next for volume 8, honestly more hyped for your videos on volume 8 then the actual volume.
That is a good question, I haven't fully read through RWBY, before the Dawn, but I think they bad gay dose have a semblance that drains person aura strength and, add it their own aura but, I think they can't use that person semblance they drain from. Then Mercury's Dad stolen his semblance but, writers didn't clarify if Dad could use Mercury's semblance. Didn't sound like he could. So maybe, there is only rule of one, one semblance for everyone. Wait, I shouldn't put so much thought to this, it's RWBY after all.
If it's really an aura transfer, then that should be fine given that they've established this as something that can be done. My issue is, however, if this could have been done before i.e. transfer the aura of a maiden into a robot and that robot has the maiden powers, why haven't they done that before now? Wouldn't it be easier to have the 4 maiden powers in metal tin cans that never age instead of a human that does age and can easily be killed/force into a situation where that power falls into the enemy's hand? If this was something they could have done, Ozpin should have had the maiden powers transferred into 4 robots and had them sent to the farthest corners of the world to prevent them from falling into Salem's hands. Having humans be the maiden clearly isn't the answer considering what happened to Amber aka the previous Fall Maiden and the previous Spring Maiden ran away and ultimately got killed by Raven. That's 2 of the 4 powers in the hands of other factions. Idk the whole thing just feels wrong but it's hard to pinpoint what the issue is. As Vex said, it's stupid no matter what.
Well, with Ironwood trying to explain why his student was a robot back in vol.3 finale when Ozpin called him, its safe to say that Ozpin found out about Penny only after she was ripped to shreds. Which puts all the blame on Ironwood. IF there is a possibility of producing robo-maidens using the project P.E.N.N.Y., then Ironwood failed to tell them about it or rather decided not to for some reason. He provided them with the lame-ass pods that have never been tested on humans before and watched Ozpin choose one of his students to be a guinea pig, all while knowing that all of this could be easily avoided if he just told them about the P.E.N.N.Y. project. A true "man with no heart" move if you ask me. That would also mean that he still decided that for some reason Winter would be a better vessel for someone else's soul than another Penny-like robot. All of this combined we have several possible explanations at hand: a) Ironwood is dumb af and he's never even though about Penny-like machines being used as vessels for maidens. b) The materials that were required to build Penny are VERY expensive, like "i cant build another 3 of those" expensive. c) Ironwood is secretly on Salem's side, Penny was built for her army and he wants to see everyone fail, BUT he also desperatley wants to find out how a human will act if someone else's soul was injected into them.
@@whitousatan4438 I hope it will be A or C,. I'm not sure that Ironwood want to use Penny, as she can be destoryed pretty easliy, at least we know that Watt know that she can be, so maybe he wasn't was intersted?
They did Winter dirty in this volume. People were saying the powers went to Penny instead of her because it was to finally show her becoming a "real girl" and cause God forbid that anyone in team Ironwood would actually get the powers. The thing is Penny is just like everyone in team RWBY and practically has the same mindset as them. It doesn't make her unique from them other than being a robot and being a maiden and that makes it a lot less interesting to look at. We found out that Raven was a maiden and that was great cause she had a totally different outlook on the world compared to the main cast which made her so much more interesting especially when you try understanding the reasons for her actions. Cinder could be the same but we don't really know her backstory just yet. If Winter had been the maiden then it would have made the storyline so much better. She has both the mindset of the Atlesian military AND team RWBY. She has her own set of ideals that separates her from everyone else which makes us wonder what course of action she would take if she were to become the maiden even if she did work for Ironwood because she was already shown to doubt him in every other episode. This was basically fanservice, or at the very least, to try and seem like a plot twist (that actually went wrong). It wouldn't be a bad thing at all if, throughout the whole volume, they were pushing for Winter to be the maiden and actually have her be. But no, instead, RT decided it would be "TOO PREDICTABLE" and decided to give it to Penny for the sake of completing her arc, which could have been done in a lot of ways. Winter was fighting her way so much through this volume and tried to set her own path and it was taken from her anyway. I would understand if this hurt her more than the series let on but it was also something she didn't deserve to go through.
I really like that idea that Penny is basically a soul vacuum because of what that opens up. Imagine if someone, maybe Watts, decided to build a perverse version of Penny's model that can force-transfer anyone's aura. The machine would be difficult because of the layers of aura it absorbs and the incredible danger of losing your literal soul. Heck, there's even the chance of the machine going rogue on it's creator. That's just me making fanfiction though, but the thought of that is insane.
So... pietro literally delved into the territory of Creation itself, which is the God of Light's territory. Why has NO ONE paid attention to that in the show?! A human just cucked a literal GOD
4:30 Also here's another reason that won't happen: The writers are cowards! They themselves admit they didn't go with an interesting arc for Penny because of "all the things that happens" so expect another Trump allegory instead of something interesting like that! Besides, it'll end with Ruby saying some shit about friendship and that gets through to Penny even tho it'll make no sense so why bother?
Man they should of had penny visit freya instead of Winter. It’s kind of dumb how Freya didn’t even have winter on her mind even though Winter would visit the bedridden Freya on a regular basis.
I think Penny got the Maiden powers because the aura cannot tell the difference between human and robot, especially one with aura, and especially one who is able take it. It makes some form of sense, but not enough for it get a pass in my opinion... actually. No. It does make sense. Penny is able to absorb aura, and it was explained that aura can he transfered via machinery, so it DOES make sense assuming you paid attention to season 3. Still not a fan of it, really wanted Winter to get it, even if the Maiden saw Penny as a female, and same with the aura (if it can be held in a machine like in season 3, then it be held in Penny.) Or who knows. Maybe the God of Light lied and gave it to Penny because she was a machine, and it wasn't technically breaking his promise if he helped a machine, and not a human.

You brought a lot of good questions about this plot point. Penny being the next Winter Maiden didn't exactly clicked for me. Seem like a plot twist just for the sake of being a twist, to don't make Winter's destiny talk (the character) way too obvious. If Watz could Hack Penny, why didn't he do that when trying to frame her? Cause that would have made way more sense and been way more interesting than what actually happened.
Even if Pietro made Penny unhackable, she can still be hacked. It just takes time. Geniuses like Batman, Iron Man, Mr Fantastic, Doctor Doom, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, Darkseid & Cyborg were able to hack into things that were supposed to be unhackable. Some things instantly, some things taking time. Watts would most likely need time to hack Penny.
The only flaw with our boy VV's theories about this is that it implies that RT has any sort of sense whatsoever when it comes to these things. The only way this would make any fucking sence to be me is if she was a cyborg, which is just part human and robot, but even then that would probably still have some holes in it
I never really thought about that. " *she physically appears female* and views herself to be female." is somewhat invalidating. I myself am fluid, but also physically appear as female, so would that ruin my chances at becoming a maiden (not viewing myself as female 100% of the time)? What about fluid (or even trans) people who physically appear male? It's icky to think about :/ It would be cool if the "series of stupid and convoluted rules" could be specified a bit more other than 'a young female-presenting female who was in the last thoughts of the host as she dies or some random young female-presenting female' The aura stealing idea is the one that makes the most sense to me, considering; Penny's design (theoretically, since it was never said in the show if she can simply take others' aura without the use of external equipment, ie the tech that Pyrrha and Winter were going to use); your point on the visual aid of the powers looking different than aura (aura being shimmery like the bottom of a swimming pool, and the powers being a mass of glowing light); and how differently they transferred (aura crept through their hands, the powers sped toward the next host). Hopefully the show will clarify at least some of the rules regarding maidens and Penny a little more.
They’ll probably just say she’s not really a maiden and that the soul of the previous maiden is residing within her. But really I don't fucking care. I've stopped caring after V5.
How did Penny get the maiden powers? Easy. CRWBY forgot how maiden powers worked and gave it to her for plot. For real though, the entire buildup for Winter to get it had me hyped and like EVERY. SINGLE. THING. in this fucking show since V4, they went the dumbest and nonsensical way possible.
I LOVE your theory, and it makes SO much sense. If Penny's aura comes from a man (a concept that's still stupid:/), the Maiden powers should not transfer to her NATURALLY. If Penny could serve as some sort of "medium" to (for lack of a better term) "absorb" Fria's aura and take the power with it, that's a good explanation. Nice work:) PS: Because Penny looks human, she's an android (not a robot). PPS: Even if it won't happen, Watts hacking would have made for a more interesting story. It would have made more sense then the "framing" they tried to do in Volume 7:/
Don't put that burden on Vexed. Dude's got a hard enough time trying to figure out the 1,000,000 piece puzzle with no matching pieces that is RWBY "continuity".
The maiden power is Ozpin's magic, he set the rules, one of the rules says no one can hold on to the power forever. So how can the Robot girl who doesn't age get the power? It must be a transfer of aura right? If the goal here is to make the most sense.
Did you have confimiton on that aside form "no one can hold on to the power forever appearntly" that write in RWBY fandom? overall very logic theroy.

Wow why didn't Watts steal this tech, and reverse engineer it for his and Salem's desires yet? the perfect weapon
It was explained way back in season 3, but that's essentially what she can do.
@@waterdog737 He explained why he didn't.

No, let's use Winter instead, she's human and young so the power is guaranteed to transfer to her."
So Penny is designated to be Mantle's Protector instead.

Except for Bismark of course. That battleship is male.
@@Quetzalcoatl_Feathered_Serpent even the outlet on my wall is a female port.

Five minute video and still more thought put into it than CRWBY.
Pretty sure is easier to make a video commenting on a plot point than making a whole season on a show
@@icecontrol1 wasn't even commenting on the whole season, just the plot point - you know, what this video was about? And even if I was, if you look at past writing, it's evident that that CRWBY does not put much thought into this maiden business. We've had three maidens and for being these incredible magical entities, they are/were bland as oatmeal. Penny will be no different. Sad that the one that had potential, Winter, got gypped out of it. Considering that Winter has a mild grudge against Qrow and he has a grudge against his sister, we could have had an interesting dynamic here. Oh well. Gotta give the fans what they want (?)
@@cubedsquared7909 That is the point, is easy to make a video about a specific plot point than making a season, not even counting how the majority of works also don't put much in to various things, only here is done because hating on RWBY gives clicks
@@icecontrol1 What are you even trying to prove? I'm saying that a single person has seemingly put in more thought on one of the more important plot points in the series than a whole crew. It doesn't matter that they have other things -- they decided to incorporate/continue with this maiden nonsense, so it is up to them to write a compelling story. If they're dropping the ball on this, to the point where it makes more sense by some random commenter, then it is evident they do not know how to prioritize. This plot point isn't about Ruby picking a new skirt - it's the freaking maidens.
It wouldn't be so commonplace to hate on RWBY for the clicks if CRWBY didn't make it so bloody easy.
But it seems like you're going to continue to defend RWBY and I'm going to continue hating on the writing. Cheers.

Does this also mean she can have multiple semblances?
That is a good question, I haven't fully read through RWBY, before the Dawn, but I think they bad gay dose have a semblance that drains person aura strength and, add it their own aura but, I think they can't use that person semblance they drain from.
Then Mercury's Dad stolen his semblance but, writers didn't clarify if Dad could use Mercury's semblance. Didn't sound like he could. So maybe, there is only rule of one, one semblance for everyone. Wait, I shouldn't put so much thought to this, it's RWBY after all.
I... think so.
I think it depends on what semblences are bound to. Are they bound to your aura or are they bound to your body?

@@Daxter-hl7dw The instant i saw Weiss i thought, "That doesnt even look like her!" Less is more damnit. 😭
Did the technlogy exsit then?
All of this combined we have several possible explanations at hand:
a) Ironwood is dumb af and he's never even though about Penny-like machines being used as vessels for maidens.
b) The materials that were required to build Penny are VERY expensive, like "i cant build another 3 of those" expensive.
c) Ironwood is secretly on Salem's side, Penny was built for her army and he wants to see everyone fail, BUT he also desperatley wants to find out how a human will act if someone else's soul was injected into them.
@@whitousatan4438 I hope it will be A or C,. I'm not sure that Ironwood want to use Penny, as she can be destoryed pretty easliy, at least we know that Watt know that she can be, so maybe he wasn't was intersted?
How is Penny a Maiden?
Bad writing, that's how!

Still not a fan of it, really wanted Winter to get it, even if the Maiden saw Penny as a female, and same with the aura (if it can be held in a machine like in season 3, then it be held in Penny.)
Or who knows. Maybe the God of Light lied and gave it to Penny because she was a machine, and it wasn't technically breaking his promise if he helped a machine, and not a human.

It seems far more realistic that it is the personal view crap solely because of who is writing it.

It's icky to think about :/
It would be cool if the "series of stupid and convoluted rules" could be specified a bit more other than 'a young female-presenting female who was in the last thoughts of the host as she dies or some random young female-presenting female'
The aura stealing idea is the one that makes the most sense to me, considering; Penny's design (theoretically, since it was never said in the show if she can simply take others' aura without the use of external equipment, ie the tech that Pyrrha and Winter were going to use); your point on the visual aid of the powers looking different than aura (aura being shimmery like the bottom of a swimming pool, and the powers being a mass of glowing light); and how differently they transferred (aura crept through their hands, the powers sped toward the next host).
Hopefully the show will clarify at least some of the rules regarding maidens and Penny a little more.
They’ll probably just say she’s not really a maiden and that the soul of the previous maiden is residing within her.
But really I don't fucking care. I've stopped caring after V5.
I don't really love the slightly transphobic take at the end there

Why is Penny a Maiden?
Because plot convenience.
That’s a good question, Vex.
Sadly I don’t have the will to answer why Penny’s a Maiden because this show’s direction is 💩
I LOVE your theory, and it makes SO much sense. If Penny's aura comes from a man (a concept that's still stupid:/), the Maiden powers should not transfer to her NATURALLY. If Penny could serve as some sort of "medium" to (for lack of a better term) "absorb" Fria's aura and take the power with it, that's a good explanation. Nice work:)
PS: Because Penny looks human, she's an android (not a robot).
PPS: Even if it won't happen, Watts hacking would have made for a more interesting story. It would have made more sense then the "framing" they tried to do in Volume 7:/
