- Mary Zentmyer stars as "Sister" in the international hit comedy, Late Nite Catechism, one of the longest running plays in theater history! Written by Vicki Quade & Maripat Donovan. Check out the website: www.nuns4fun.com.
Mary Zentmyer does this role wonderfully. We saw her in LNC last year, and Christmas Catechism just a few weeks ago. They are both very funny. We had a wonderful time, a very fun evening.
Saw this on stage in Australia, when of the most enjoyable nights of theatre I've ever had.
OMG..This is perfect. I was born in '57, the youngest of 11 kids of Irish American parents, 12 years in parochial schools, an older brother who became a priest and a sister a nun, to say nothing of the cousins who entered the Carmelites and Trappist orders....this was my life!! Until 18 I thought St Patrick's Day was a national holiday. I was even the "private altar boy" to our local bishop for six years...nothing happened though, he was just a sweet old queen, bless his soul.
I saw this off-broadway about 5 years ago. Hilarious! We laughed the whole way through. I only wish the nuns that taught me were as pleasant as the nun on stage. LOL! But brought back a lot of memories of my catholic school days.
I remember when they stopped using Latin during the mass at my local church, and it made me sad. I didn't know Latin except for a few words, but I loved hearing it during Mass. It sounded ancient, mysterious and venerable.
"Hootenanny Mass"...I've been using that phrase for years and thought it was original ! Ha!
This is good clean comedy.
If you like this, look up Tom Lehrer and check out his "Vatican Rag"
from about 1965. Some staunch Catholics I know are amused by it.
I’m going to see to this gets Resurrected...
Funny for a nun, ya know why they call them nuns, ain't never had nun, ain't gonna get nun. Lmao
@kraftpr it is a comedy routine it is obviously not meant to be taken seriously
Very funny! But some of what she says is incorrect. Vatican II never did away with Latin. It became optional. Check out Daily Masses on EWTN. You were allowed to eat meat ONLY if you did some "good" work. Again, this can be checked on EWTN. Otherwise, fish is STILL required on Fridays. Just setting the record straight.
I liked the real mass better.
