    On the RAV4 there is a specific metal piece more towards the opposite side of the engine from the fuse box for the negative cable to be attached. It is better to keep the cables further apart to be sure you don't accidentally damage the computer in the car.

I'm here because my Highlander Hybrid keeps not starting and it looks like the reason is that I helped a person stranded at the airport by jumping their car with mine. Two key points to remember… if it’s a smart key car you have to have the remote right next to the start button when starting the car (not just anywhere in the car). Second, I’m pretty sure you have to wait for the engine to cycle before disconnecting the leads or the vehicles goes dead again. I usually press the accelerator to stimulate the engine to come on.

    • @TrainerSteveClifford
      @TrainerSteveClifford  Рік тому +5

      That trick with the key next to the start button only applies if the battery for the remote dies, not the 12 volt car battery. That's another video I need to do.

      The car starts charging the 12V battery from the dc-dc converter connected to the main (high voltage) battery. It has nothing to do with the ice running or not. You can check that by monitoring the 12V at the cigarette lighter with a volt monitoring usb charger.

Traditionally you attach one side to another car and one side to a dead battery car. I had heard you can essentially "jump your own car" with this fuse box so if the first positive cable is attached to the positive on the fuse box and the first negative cable attaches to a bolt for grounding, then where do the second positive and negative cables connect.
