Thank you Bredan, Dan and Doug! The detox is much anticipated ny me every week.
Brendan I was able to pick up the Time Lord Victorious blu-ray last month during black Friday for £7.99! Not because I don't have the stories but because I can watch Planet/Genesis of the Daleks on the same disc, woo-hoo! (Still a kid at heart lol!)
Seasons greetings to you and all Sense Spherians 🎅⛄👍

Definitely agree about Lytton's crushed hands in Attack of the Cybermen; truly shocking, especially when coupled with the impressive twist regarding his real agenda; Eric Saward remains, to my mind, that most underrated of Doctor Who writers.
The Doctor's unseemly dalliance in Rogue remains the most unsavoury example, wholly unexpected in the sense that, even by that point, I never thought Davies could, to such an irredeemable extent, betray the character, the show, and fandom.
Happy sixty third birthday, Matthew Waterhouse. Much like Tegan, Adric being annoying was part of his appeal; in the interest of full disclosure, however, I liked neither when watching as a child, only seeing the positives when rediscovering the show on video, about a decade later.
Happy fiftieth to The Robots of Death, quintessential Doctor Who if ever there was. I've long thought that the success of this gem is linked indelibly to that of The Talons of Weng Chiang (and vice versa), due to each breath-taking offering following/preceding the other, a fact serving to further immortalise both.
Regarding the upcoming Christmas special, I have absolutely no problem with a fleeting, "ghost of a farce" scene. I feel that, as with Boom, Moffat has been given an opportunity to outshine Davies emphatically; given the man's colossal ego, and his more greatly observed adherence to the show's core elements, he is unlikely to be susceptible to the same pitfalls as the current showrunner.
I don't like the fact that, for series two, both the Doctor and the companion are people of colour, especially as I'm yet to be convinced that a white actress was not cynically replaced to make such a dubious pairing possible. For my liking, far too reflective of the similar supplantation of white people in society, .
For all the very worst of reasons, I have no difficulty believing that some, if not all, of Davies' ideas present themselves whilst he is engaging in perfunctory daily tasks, because, during his current tenure, his stories have been hallmarked by nothing but mundanity.
Regarding the spinoff, every unnerving word of his description speaks to the confirmation of our very worst, message-related fears.
Series seven will effortlessly continue the trend whereby released classic series rebuke and expose the glaring shortcomings of the current era; an inevitable, stark polarity, in that one was the undoubted salvation of Doctor Who, whereas the other aspires to be the complete opposite.
I love, and rewatch regularly, every one of this series' stories, yet never hesitate to nominate 'Spearhead' as my favourite; for me, the best introduction of a new Doctor.
Whilst never making any of the connections pointed out by Doug, I agree with every one, aghast that none had ever occurred to be before; cheers, Doug!
Robot was the first debut for a new Doctor that I was able to watch (and be aware of) upon transmission. My young self would be in full agreement with Brendan's, as I remember vividly my disapproval of Baker's clownish antics, and wondering when he would get on with 'catching the robot'. Of course, the story, and Baker, quickly found their stride, forming as they did, an essential platform for a series which, for me, was at least as impressive as the aforementioned series seven.
Many thanks, Brendan, Dan, and Doug, for a most excellent pre-Yuletide detox.
    Merry Christmas to all.
    Paul

Merry Christmas Paul. Season 7 and 12 were classic and serious and treated their subject matter with real jeopardy while season 1 of ncuti we have inconsistency, dr lite stories, breaking the 4th wall and singing and dancing

14/20 correct for the emoji quiz, not to bad but I'm kicking myself for not getting the Sea Devils 😀
Looking forward to the release of season 7. Although I started watching Dr. Who with Tom's final season, Jon became my favourite Doctor.
    Happy holidays to all.

Had Space Babies been the opening episode in Series 1 with Eccleston and Piper then there would not have been a Series 2. Why RTD thought the quality of that story was acceptable in 2024 is beyond me. I can only think it comes from a man so wealthy that he doesn’t care anymore. What’s the penalty if he fails?
None! Except for Dr Who to be cancelled but he will move onto new projects. RTD won’t be affected either financially or professionally.

The whole thing with the Doctor and Rogue would have been in the 2005 reboot if it wasn't for pushback from Christopher Eccleston.
Captain Jack Harkness was supposed to have more of a thing for the Doctor and vice versa, but Chris put his foot down and said no, so they changed it.
This was one of the many things that Led to Chris leaving on bad terms, RTD was always, ALWAYS going to do this to the Doctor regardless of him denying he would make the Doctor gay, it was always the plan but Chris 'cockblocked' RTD 🤣🤣

Great show. Many thanks, Brendan, Doug and Dan. Merry Christmas!
I wonder what came first: was Joy to the World inspired by Mr Benn, and that's why Steven Moffat named a character after him, or did he realise later and name the character to acknowledge the similarity? With Doctor Who, any idea in retrospect could seem to be inspired by something else.
But isn't Mr Benn a version of Doctor Who for pre-school children? He steps through a door to visit other times. Ohh, I love Mr Benn.
Isn't Ncuti dressed in a suit and bowler hat in Season Two? Is he meant to be the Mr Benn for our times? He too changes his costume for every episode. Will The War Between the Land and the Sea reference the Mr Benn episode where he dresses as a frogman? Will there be submarines disguised as sea monsters? Finally I'm getting interested!

season 7 was the 1st dr who i ever saw. The first being spearhead from space in black and white on an old 405 line tv set in my dads tv rental shop in stockport. Probably sat on an old set on the floor as a makeshift chair. I remember tucking into a bag of sweets from british home stores, either dolly mixtures or licorice torpedoes. Even now when watching inferno i can remember the taste of licorice.

The colour and picture quality of The Silurians and Ambassadors of Death was poor in the DVDs . Not their fault but trying to get to SD quality is a stretch. That’s difficult with the 2nd rate masters. Hopefully, new techniques can get us the best picture possible but I’m not expecting Robot type quality. Be delighted to be proved wrong.

No it doesn't. The time goes so quickly with lots of laughter. Brendan runs the show effortlessly on the surface. We of course know how much work and preparation goes into it Perhaps an episode featuring the Detoxers and the Sunday Crew. There's an idea Brendan

I do feel at this point that RTD is deliberately trolling fans. He’s making our worse nightmares come true. The Dr is no longer an Alien but a horny 30 yr old homosexual. No more science fiction but fantasy with no need for any explanation. It’s magic! Fortunately, I’m out. No need to watch anymore. As for the new companion being a good actress ? So was Millie Gibson. Daniel Day Lewis could not make RTDs stories any better. Plenty of great actors in bad movies. Think CATS!

I must go back and watch a few Malcolm Hulke 'Crossroads' episodes. Maybe Noele Gordon joins the Socialist Worker's Party and grooms Shuey McFee to be her far-left-leaning right-hand man. I always thought Miss Luke had something Rosa Klebb about her!

Surely all RTD is saying is that ideas can come to you at any time and in any place. I don't like the man, his politics or his work, but I don't know where you're going with this. He's just having a bit of fun with it.

    • @noblerees1

I think that’s what I was saying - I kept trying to say it’s just flip comments all unfortunately giving the vibe that the dr who show is not high value. Having taught for 30 years on the subject of English I know that ideas have to germinate over time but I just find the whole PR vibe coming out of bad wolf and RTD is selling the brand short

Having fun by destroying Dr Who’s credibility with the UK audience. It was already on its knees after Chibnall but RTD came up from behind and gave it a right shafting! 😮
Space Babies and Snot Monsters . How I laughed. Not😢

@noblerees1 Keeping grounded about one's work & doing it with a sense of humour doesn't mean it's not taken seriously. You say not treated as high value. Spoken as a fan and with maybe a bit too much investment. As much as I love Dr Who, it is, ultimately, Dr Who. I speak only for myself, of course.

    • @raymondwilliams5587

@Dirty_Hamble Speaking as an other fan I suggest you buy/ preorder the Season 7 Blu Ray Boxset. To remember how great Dr Who once was. Stories 55 yrs old made on a far smaller budget.
RTD&Moffat should also rewatch these Classics because they clearly aren’t trying to match the quality of scripts of their predecessors.
