- Toyota highlander 2008-2012 alarm that keeps going off at different times especially at night! Solution was removing the fuse that says S-horn (security horn) in the fuse box located in engine compartment.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Omg, you don't know how many times this alarm would go off and I would have to be ready to jump and turn off so my neighbors wouldn't be disturbed . Problem solved👍
Thanks man... Been searching way too much for this simple solution!
Gonna give this a shot , thank you for bringing this up! We thought it was a battery issue so we replaced our car battery (10 years old!) but it didn’t fix. Will try removing this.
Thank you!! Alarm was driving me nuts..took it out for the night..replaced with a new one
Did it work, did you have to cut the hood latch line?
Thank you! My 2007 Highlander’s alarm went off ALLNight and we tried your fuse idea and it worked!
Glad it helped
@@fossil8358How do you pull it out? It’s not budging
@@MaulJay79 try using some pliers
I just found this video and tried it. Will need to wait and see if this solution works for us. That being said, I had the same problem getting it out and then noticed that there was a white plier like tool on the underside of the fuse box cover. I took that out and it worked like a charm for pulling out the fuse.
She's still looking great 👍🏽
Hey 👋🏿 boss, I did what you suggested. I was entering passenger side as well to see, that side the alarm went off 🚨 but so far it hasn’t gone off. But I swear, this has been happening for the last 3-4 years and I never thought to try YouTubing this man. And ironically I brought to get repair on my air conditioner and I forgot to mention this issue… smh 🤦🏿♂️ Let’s pray 🙏🏿🤞🏿
Lets hope it doesn’t go off again, and hope u took out the right one because there are 2 fuses relating to suv horn/alarm.
You don't understand how much I love you right now I was about ready to soak my car in gasoline and light it on fire you have saved my life
😆 yeah i feel you, mine for some reason always triggered the alarm at night time
Thanks bro! I just did what you showed. Let's see if it's gonna go off again tonight or it's fixed. Mine also been going off at night for some reason.
U should be good. Mine has been 3 or 4 months no issues
I did the exactly the same after seeing this video. It actually stopped the alarm from kicking off...until I did a smog check, and then it started the alarm randomly again (with that fuse still out). Man!
Yup took the fuse out , alarm went off randomly next day after work 🤷♂️
You are the best . My toyota venza 2010 alarm going off all the time with no reason and I don’t how to fix that and now I know. Thank you very much for this video.
Huge! thank you, thank you, thank you indeed! This has been a major headache for us.
Thank you so much now my neighbors won’t hate me
Thank you! My alarm was going off all day and annoying everyone.
In a pinch and to save the embarrassment . Turned the interior light to off and then crack the door open a hair. So far so good!
This solution was perfect. Thank you!
This did NOT fix my problem FWIW but I will detail out what needs to be done for those that this does not work for. I threw that fuse down on the ground and drove away from it. Then parked...3 minutes later after locking it the alarm started blaring. This is a KNOWN problem in some 2008-2011 Highlanders with Japanese VIN numbers on them (assembled in Japan but often sold in the US). Mine is one of those affected. There was a T-SB (Technicians service bulletin in July 2010 with a known bad hood latch on some of these VIN numbers affected. IF it was triggered during your warranty they would have replaced it. If not...you are on your own. It costs about $90 on ebay and online venders. It costs about $140 through Toyota. It is not hard to replace if you have the basic tools but ticks me off that they didn't just replace the known defect before we bought it (we bought it 1 week after the TSB came out identifying that it was defective. Another gentleman on youtube has a fix that you actually cut and splice the 2 wires together that feed the sensor inside the hood so that they are connected together and this will bypass the problem.
What is the part you need to replace?
I disconnect the horns by the hood hatch and took fuses out. The problem went away for months but recently came back to mess with me. So this time , I disconnected a wire by the hatch ( i believe its the main hood hatch alarm because i traced the wire from the hatch to somehtjng else ) but I didn't splice it to whatever other videos were talking about. I hope this works.
I am gonna try this today. Having back latch issues. 2006 toyota four runner.
Your good video has helped us a lot. Thanks!
hope it works for you since for some people has not.
@@fossil8358 Removing that fuse has fixed our problem. Am still contemplating the switch and cleaning, replacing or altering it, plus repositioning the fuse.
Thank You it help my Toyota Kluger 2009 thanks
You have to splice the wires to complete the circuit. Before or after the connector.
Did not resolve for me. Confirmed that it was the correct fuse multiple times. Also FYI for car noobs like me, the white tool under the fuse hood can be used to do the fuse extraction.
Could you tell me how you know the alarm still works? Does it run on a circuit other than "S Alarm"? What about the personal security alarm on the key fob - would that still work? Thanks!!
Well, the only i could tell u is that when i lock/unlock the car i hear the beeping and the horn still works. I know there is another video on youtube about cutting a wire near the hood latch. This whole problem is due to a faulty latch near hood is what i was told. I just found it easier to disconnect a fuse than cut a cable.
@@fossil8358 Thanks for replying!
Also, does this fix basically deactivate the car alarm in case someone actually trying to break in?
It didn't fix my alarm problem, I'm wondering what else is causing that alarm going off randomly.
Omg, I just did that to my car👍🏼hope it works. And it’s a 2019😅. What do you do whit the little sensor u take off? Save it? In case u need it again? Thanks
Saved me tonight
Thanks. I have this problem I alway disconnected battery when I get home. I hope this will work.
From the info I found online you have to cut the wire then splice it together … did you do that?
I did cut some wires by hood latch. I wish i had tried first the fuse but i ended up doing both
At worst case scenario the issue is the hood latch.
@@fossil8358 thank you, I was saying in the other videos they cut the wires then spliced them back together
@@fossil8358 I’ve ordered a new latch we’ll see what happens
@@fossil8358 thanks for your prompt replies
It happened on my Gen2 prius, do you know how to do?
So have you noticed anything failing after removing the fuse?
No absolutely nothing. Everything works, my alarm, horn and anything I thought would be affected is working, and alarm has never gone off again
@@fossil8358 I possess off my landlord and her husband works super early so he texted me several times. 😬 I feel so bad. I did it and hope it’s okay.
Gracias amigo también tengo ese problema con la mia se activa sola
This band-aids the issue with no horn going off but it doesn't fix the issue. Something is triggeri g the alarm and now I have no notification of the alarm going off. But it will help our ears
True but mine has 244k mi on it. Would love to get a 1-2 years more usage on it and far from then primary car. If someone wants to steal it then they are doing me a favor. :-)
Didn’t work for me. The alarm still went off after I pulled out the “S Horn” fuse as instructed in this video. I have another idea…I replaced that fuse with the spare fuse from the lid. That seems to solved the problem for now…it’s only been a day. Will see what happen.
Did replacing the fuse work? i pulled the S Horn and it worked for 2 months, then the issue came back last night (same day someone else drove my car 10 feet with parking brake on which may have re-triggered the issue).
Wondering if you have an update? I just took out the fuse. Also saw the extra and I am wondering if the original fuse of mine might be the actual problem
I tried this fix - thank you for posting this idea! - but it hasn't worked for me unfortunately. What I can say though is that it hasn't disabled the personal alarm on the key fob, or the horn you can push with your hand while driving, OR (regrettably) the security alarm going off at random. Any other ideas for fuses I can remove? Otherwise, I think I may have to put on a terminal disconnect and disconnect the terminals of the front battery every time I park. What I'm not sure of though, is if the hybrid battery might kick in anyway and allow the alarm to draw from it. Any thoughts?
There is another video on youtube regarding this issue, it appears to be a hood latch acting up and vehicle things someone is opening the hood, according to the other video they cut a cable right by the hood latch. The other option is an expensive one and will be replacing hood latch at dealer unless you know how to
you can have the horn fuse draw power from the ignition instead of the battery so it'll only work when the car is running
It did not work. my alarm still goes off periodically even after removing the fuse.
@@sendfile-e6w if that doesn’t work the issue is the latch on the hood, u either replace the latch or cut cables that connect latch to alarm. (I didn’t go that far but some other videos people did)
@@sendfile-e6w and also there are 2 fuse related to that i think one was horn and another one was “s” horn
He said cut the wire and join it to itself to complete the circuit
This didn’t work for me either, but at least it’s working for some people.
Took the fuse (s horn) out and the alarm came on the next day. I might have to cut the wire.
this worked for me for 2 months. then, someone drove my car 10 feet with the parking brake on just down the driveway, and the alram issue came back last night. Not sure if related.
I believe the toyotas that's expiencing this alarm issues , may be built in north American. If your vin # doesn't start with J then you and I got a toyota made in america.
did not work for me
؟thanks
I took this fuse out and it still goes off at night.
I took my fuse out as he said and laid down to take a nap and what do ya know it kept going off. So after I got up from my awful nap I went out and in the fuse box there were 3 extra fuses. One was the 7.5 like the one he said to take out. So, I put the new fuse in and so far so good, the alarm hasn't gone off. That was around 9:30 pm and it's now 4:11 am and doing good so far. I'm glad it had an extra new fuse for a spare. Try a new fuse and see if it does the trick as mine is so far.
How’s it still going for you? I just took my old fuse out to see if that suffices. That extra fuse is my next attempt if needed.
