Up in Wisconsin we have an Amish Auction during the Fourth of July. We were camping and went to it. Has anyone camped with a Rooster, Hen and 8- day old chicks?!!! ($3.00 for that group. I named them the Homesteaders) They were in the screen tent that night! At 4:30 the crowing began!!!! 🐓 Our neighbors were great but we did have people ask where we bought such a unique alarm clock AND why we set it so early. Hahaha That was a GREAT weekend!
I loved going to the Amish auctions in Ohio! We lived just a few miles from Miller's Farm. I made sure to visit once a week. Later, they added a low cost grocery section which was terrific! We lived in West Union. Later, in Cherry Fork.
That was fun :) did you buy anything guys? We live in an Amish area too in Ohio - they pass by our homestead daily on their travels. I always enjoy seeing them gather for social events...it's like traveling back to a simpler time of hard homestead work, building a close-knit community, & gathering together for picnics & Sunday-go-meetings. Their small school house is around the corner from our place & they ring the old fashioned bell for recess & call to session. They may not like to be photographed, but our Amish & Mennonite neighbors always wave at us, smile, & sometimes I get a brief, little hat tip o.- . It's comforting knowing that those are the kind of neighbors you have: hard work ethics, family oriented, & their homesteads are always beautiful, orderly, and clean. Thanks for sharing Doug :)
Thanks for the video, took me back to my younger years growing up in Delaware. It was part if my life growing up seeing the buggies and hearing the clip clop of the horses as they passed by our house, The weekly auction in my town of Dover wasn't that big but I loved going there with my grandfather.
I love the Amish people. They are so faithful and gracious. I met a family while I was on vacation in Pennsylvania. The Mennonite live nearby in this community and I was fascinated by their lifestyles and skills in quilting and how CLEAN they keep their farms and the areas around them.
The Buggies, Horses and the Amish parking lot - So, when they buy a car, they buy the chassis & the engine separately. and, park them separately. The clothing was much more colorful than I expected.
Doug nice family reunion LOL. I live near Shipshewana Indiana, a large Amish area. Love watching them at auction if they want it they will by it period. Remember safety is number one on your homestead.
That was very cool to watch!! I love auctions, never saw the Amish Auction until now. I love the Amish culture, I have visited and bought from them in OH, and PA. In October we'll be touring the Lancaster County, PA Amish Country! Thank you so much for sharing! God bless!
What a fun video. That buggy interior was much more fancy than I expected. I loved the Amish parking lot, but I have to say those horses looked pretty thirsty. BTW - I think that was my favorite intro video clip of all the Homestead Homie clips I've seen! South Africa!
I'm a little surprised they tolerate you with that camera. I guess the word around about you is that you're good folk who can be trusted. I have a friend who grew up on the edge of Amish country and lives off of the grid like they do, he just loves that life. He had friends among them growing up. He tells me it takes a bit to earn that kind of trust in their community as an "Engelmann, " so kudos to you!
Clarita, Oklahoma has an auction like this one on the second Saturday of September, also to fund their schools. Breakfast is yummy and there is lots of food for sale as well as noodles, baked goods, sausage and butter which always sells out.
You are correct about the prices being extremely high! $700 (and still bidding) for a really old sickle mower (we would definitely call it vintage) with missing teeth and blades was really outta there! Makes me wonder the correlation between the high prices and the $ going to the schools. Never knew there were that many Amish in Mo. I lived south of St Joe and always heard of the communities up north, but never knew there were so many.
Hey Doug and Stacy.🤗 what a video. But have to agree too short. Never been to a amish auction.. but we have seen a barn raising.. that was fun.. Wow they work like little beavers .. together fast .. and what a lunch the amish women put out .. And your right no pictures. Wanted to take some of the barn raising.. We were by the road and one of the Amish men invited us to come watch them work . We have some good Amish friends that have a furniture store in Texas.. good people. Glad you 'll had fun. Thanks for a great video.enjoy it . Blessing 👩🌾
We have big Amish auctions here. In the summer, there's a produce auction 3 days a week. Then there's auctions for equipment, animals, and quilts throughout the year.
Dear Doug and Stacy, Thank you for sharing, I envy your lifestyle and can see how much happiness it has brought you both. Best wishes from west coast Florida. 🐥🐓🐤
Been to my fair share of auctions, but never an all Amish one. It is cool to see all the buggies together, but my favorite is in the Fall when they have their weddings.
I've been to quite a few Amish auctions myself. So many good tools and good food. We've got a lot of Amish country around us as well here in northern Indiana.
Fascinating rare trip back in time to another world. Enjoyed the horse drawn machinery and buggies with manual window wipers. (Aren't the horses watching where they're going in the rain?😄) Thanks for sharing.😎
This video was AWESOME! I have always loved going to an auction! I have always loved the Amish culture, and was around it all when I lived in NE Ohio. Saw many buggies but was never in one, that was soooo neat! I loved all the horses best. In the Fall we are going to visit Lancaster County, PA, YAY! Thank you for sharing. God bless!
That's wonderful. It reminds me of home in Ontario, where we also have a large Amish community and a large market I love to go to shop at and see the auctions. A great view. Thanks.
I would be like a kid in a lolly shop! We have nothig like that here in Australia and "Amish" buggies and horse drawn implements have to be imported from the States at vast cost. More often than not the shipping costs more then the item costs. Doug, I miss seeing your draft mares but I'm sure they went to a home where they have regular work and a looked after well.
First time viewer. Went to school in Northwest Missouri but never saw anything like this. Original exposure to the Amish was those reality shows, which showed us "English" that even in some Amish communities, there is corruption, violence and some real bad people. However, was exposed to Amish in Pennsylvania. and, while they weren't any different as human beings who, in general, were peaceful and heart warming, they were friendly and allowed us into their world. What an education! Like your videos. Far more respectful than those who filmed those reality shows. I hope to never see another one! Looking forward to more videos!
You were very respectful of the Amish. You did a great job of filming. Have you ever read the book "The Dirty Life" by Kristin Kimball. It is my favorite book. Read it at least 5 times. It always sits by our bed. They farm with draft horses. We think you would love it.
I have been to one a few years back its were I got a old john-deer trip plow and some riding lawnmower motors. You have to get there early and see what you want since they have more than one person running the different sections of the auction. to make it move faster or it would take a week to go though. and they are fast. The next one I go to I want to get a blade mower, and a rake and baler. so I can cut and bale hay with my small tractor. Over here they do the auctions to pay for the schools and other things for the community.
I've been looking at your videos on and off for a while now. I've been kind of drawn to it and now I know why. I live in Bellflower, Mo about half an hour or so from Bowling Green. I just got a map for 2017 that shows where all the Amish shops in the area are located. I have more in common with your culture than with my friends and families culture near St Louis. Anyway, thanks for being there. Jim Braun
Thank you for being so respectful to the Amish, and giving us fascinating insight into their lives and technologies. Those TV specials could learn a thing or two. I sure don't miss having a TV.... OGDS is a much better channel :^)
Thanks for the 'peak' inside their world, I've often wondered. Those auctioneers talk so fast, it would take skill to learn to hear what they are saying!! Loved the view of their Amish parking lot!
That would have been interesting to see more of the farm equipment up for auction. You find stuff at auctions that you don't find on every Amish farm. My father was raised as a Mennonite and here in Ontario, Canada, the Mennonite community raise funds for their missionary work with one of the largest Quilt auctions every year. It is criminal how cheaply some of those quilts sell for! All hand made with 100 percent cotton fabrics.....
I live in Trenton, MO. and they have one like that near Jamesport, MO. Every year as well. It has been a few years since I been to it. They sell everything that you would ever need. That's for sure.
Thanks for the peek. Looks very interesting. Also looks like there are many different Amish communities there..I believe you can tell by the color of the shirts?? We have Hutterites in our community and some people can tell from which area they are from by the coloring of the clothes (at least this is what I have been told as I have never asked them).
Hey Doug, did you get to hear them calling bids in English and German at the same time? It's mind-boggling how they do it! Love a good country auction!
That was SOOOOO cool! Would have even been cooler to see a test drive of one of those buggies LOL! Now your making me want to think about buying some land near the Amish community not far from here just to be able to start making some friends that know how to live off the land like you have.
Sheesh, so many questions I'm buzzing to ask as in a way to understand their way of life. All the machinery that has stood the test of time yet we buy an item that'll probably break within 2 yrs and will need to be replaced, causing more rubbish and so forth. Makes you wonder and scratch your head at times. Love different cultures. If you know much about the types of machinery shown, would you do a brief video on its usage? Just wondering.... Loved the video, waaay too brief but respect the reasons why. Thanks. 👍🏼
Lesley Oliver I saw TheHealthRanger's video about doing a repair on his old John Deere tractor and he made the point that we should invest in farm equipment that is EMP proof. I hadn't thought of that!

South is "new order" and north is "old order". The "old order do not allow their buggies to be enclosed in anyway, and no windshield. They also do not allow electric lights, only lanterns and an orange triangle on the rear. Many other "rules" of the church are more strict as well. The "new order" have buggies much like you showed at the auction. Some even have cell phones, but only for conducting business, and some have a phone booth in the front yard with an answering machine to take messages, again, only for conducting business such as selling wooden furniture, etc. My Grandparents on my fathers side were "new order" Amish, but my father was orphaned as a young teen and never joined the church. We were raised somewhat strict, but not in the Amish lifestyle.

I’m just over in scioto county
Thank you for sharing. Your channel isn't boring at all. I enjoy 😊 all that share with us.
What a treasure trove! I would love to go to that just to SEE all that equipment. So cool! Thanks so much for taking us along!

We are also living among the amish. We love it and I love tapping into their knowledge. Good people and so gracious.
I love the Amish people. They are so faithful and gracious. I met a family while I was on vacation in Pennsylvania. The Mennonite live nearby in this community and I was fascinated by their lifestyles and skills in quilting and how CLEAN they keep their farms and the areas around them.
you are such a gentleman and so respectful! Thanks for the peek into Amish life!
The Buggies, Horses and the Amish parking lot - So, when they buy a car, they buy the chassis & the engine separately. and, park them separately.
The clothing was much more colorful than I expected.
It looked like there were a hundred Dougs wandering around 😆👍
Wow that's some auction. I appreciate the respect you gave them . They live a peaceful life and maintain great reverence for yester year love it .
Great video, Doug. I have always admired and respected the Amish people and their lifestyle.
The intros like this one, with awesome accents, are my favorite!
Cool scene! Love all the equipment! Quality stuff...
Cuba Rodriguez yes the South African accent makes me homesick
Doug nice family reunion LOL. I live near Shipshewana Indiana, a large Amish area. Love watching them at auction if they want it they will by it period. Remember safety is number one on your homestead.

So HAPPY to see there is still a use for horses!!
This video made me homesick. We used to visit Amish auctions when I was a kiddo.
love your new music lead-in !!!
I've been to quite a few Amish auctions myself. So many good tools and good food. We've got a lot of Amish country around us as well here in northern Indiana.

Thanks for Sharing Doug ! .. Funny Even the Horses Turn their Heads as If , not wanting to Be Video'd ,,
I noticed that as well
Always something to learn from another community🌱
Omg, we love it ...we used to go to Lancaster...We learned from you guys a lot ...
I have always wanted to go to that auction...Thanks for sharing..
You're really making me ache to go visit our Amish community that's an hour from here in Ontario. Thanks for the upload! :)

As a youngster my step grandparents took me to Amish farmers market! The candy and Scrappel was the best.
Ok that auction is cool now I know where to get all the horse drawn equipment I want for my homestead

Great look at the way others live. Love the old equipment and the fact that t still works good today. Very interesting.
Wow that's a lot of carriages! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Never had such a hard time finding Doug in a crowd
😂
What a cool experience. Thanks for taking us along.
The Amish have the most beautiful children. I noticed that when I went to PA with my mom a few years back. Such a great culture.
Thanks for the 'peak' inside their world, I've often wondered. Those auctioneers talk so fast, it would take skill to learn to hear what they are saying!! Loved the view of their Amish parking lot!
Watching this old vid---great job, guys! Wow, that's awesome! Shalom...Dawn @ Rich &Dawn in MN:)
How fun to eee that!!! What sort of price tag is on those buggies??? I used to live near Amish country. Loved the serenity you could feel there.
I just loved the fiddling at the end...
Love following you both ..... hi from Australia 🇦🇺 and thank you for the insight, fascinating!
I've never seen so many suspenders in my life then I've seen now in your video! LOL 😂
Interesting look thank you for sharing. We have an Amish community about an hour SE from us.

Ann OToole and the haircuts 👍👊
I enjoyed this very much. I uploaded a video from my Amish Auction adventure last month. (Not as fabulous as yours!) Love going to these!!
Doug, you look an undercover Amish spy. LOL
Sharon Taylor 😂😂
I feel like we haven't seen much of you guys lately. Hope all is well with your family! We've miss you!
great video of the Amish and how they help out for a community cause! 👍😉😇✝
There's a lot of motorized vehicles here. You mean that many non-Amish were interested? Wow!
Here in Michigan they have a Quilt Auction twice a year in Clare. Usually in May and September
I am a new subscriber and have been watching some of your videos and I really enjoyed them.
Hey Doug, did you get to hear them calling bids in English and German at the same time? It's mind-boggling how they do it! Love a good country auction!
Interesting event and video. Thanks for sharing. Y'all take care.
That was SOOOOO cool! Would have even been cooler to see a test drive of one of those buggies LOL! Now your making me want to think about buying some land near the Amish community not far from here just to be able to start making some friends that know how to live off the land like you have.
Cool insider video. There's a relatively small Amish community and auction in our area.
Love the guy from 2:27-29. He came walking up staring right into the camera.
that was great
I love the way they live. I wish I lived closer to the Amish. There aren't any around where I live.
WoW..Interesting !! Never seen Anything like it !! THANKS for a PEEK into the AMISH WORLD..
Love the inside look at the Amish.
Very cool to see! Thank you for sharing this!
Thnk you for putting the "year" in the title. It helps give perspective.🌻
I love the old buggies 👍☝️👏😍🏡
Hi,
enjoying your videos.
hope you two are well.
We have these in Michigan, too. NEVER get in between 2 or more Amish bidding on the same item. If you ever have, then you know why not.
Awesome. Great day for the auction.
I would be happy to navigate that parking lot!
interesting inside look thank you. curious what was the average price a buggy went for?
TheKrazysinner buggys go between 800-2500 depending on size and how much detail and other things are added to them.
Aw man...look at all the Doug's! ;) Just kidding.
This is great. We go to the annual school auction north of us in Clarita, Okla. It's loads of fun. And big but not quite this big.
Amazing Auction!
Looked like a lot of fun!
I love the new music! The Amish in your area must be what we refer to as "new order" We have both "new order" and "old order" in our area. They are pretty much divided by an east and west highway.
Had a hard job finding you in the video....it was like playing "Wheres Wally"....lol.........:)
I tried at an auction around here and I got some dirty looks lol. I just picked up amish made air compressor windmill. It' great way of life!
That was our video yesterday 👍 that thing is cool
That red velvet interior was fresh.
nice to see that, wish I could have a buggy and a 🏇 but not enough room.
I'm from Missouri and everything that I know about it is south of hyw 70. And up around Troy.
I know hyw 50 has Mennonites. I didn't know we had a large population of Amish in Missouri
biggest clan west of the mississippi is in Jamesport Mo..over 400 families
Where is this auction in MO ?
They have them in Versailles Missouri all summer
