If the President yelled at me like he did in front of everyone like he did with josh I would feel same way josh did with amy

I think another reason why they couldn't work is because they both think that they're smarter than the other.

The small "yea" in the end. It's what Josh is saying. What he's thinking is "You threw my phone in a pot of stew and got POTUS to dress me down like a school kid. We are done talking."

Sorkin gets criticized (rightly so a lot of the time) for his writing of females, but I gotta say having Amy toss Josh's cell phone into stew, cut his landline, and then say straight-faced "We ought to be able to talk about this" is dead-on accurate insight.

Amy is responsible for their break-up. She works against him and pretends like its no big deal. She puts him into bad situations and then offers sarcastic apologies at best.

Nah, it's Josh's inability to lose a battle without taking it personally. Josh and Amy were on opposing ends of the issue. She won.
A normal person could take the beat and move on to the next day. Josh can't let go of a lost fight, so he's pretty much incompatible with anyone who might ever be in opposition to him.
Compare that to CJ and Danny, who were constantly at odds with each other, undercutting and going behind each other's backs, as their jobs dictated. Yet, neither of them took it nearly as personally as Josh took even a minor defeat.

SpydeyDan CJ and Denny went out of their way to support each other even during times when it put their jobs at risk. Not to mention when they were opposing one another it was always upfront. Denny is honest and respectful.
You can't say the same here. Amy is not sincere. She walks all over Josh and expects a cute smile to be all she needs(she's damn cute but even so).

+SpydeyDan "Josh and Amy were on opposing ends of the issue. She won."
I don't think you're remembering this correctly. Josh won, and it ended up costing Amy her job. She lost so badly that she was forced to resign. It was a great moment. :)

@@SpydeyDan Amy used information Josh gave her at the end of the day to turn on him. That is not being supportive.
There was no way it would have work for them as a couple if she keeps sabotaging him.

It’s no one’s fault. They both intelligent adults. There are simple fixes to the problems in their relationship, but it would require compromise and sacrifice. They didn’t wanna do that.

I really don't think the president should have yelled at josh the way he did in front of the others. Do it alone with no one else around and in private.

In general I agreed with that sentiment-- be someone I want to vote for, instead of me just voting against The Other Guy.
I feel like I've been voting against The Other Guy since 2004.

THIS. This is here is why Josh and Amy would never have worked long term. They're trains that cross in the night. But they're both too powerful for thier own good. Neither one of them would ever back down about an issue they care about. You can have hot sex without compromise, but you'll have nothing else.

"They're trains that cross in the night." is this a metaphor for powerful but fleeting? wat did u mean by this?

@@jackbrady9738 I meant that neither of them would give 1 inch on thier positions. You cannot have a relationship that is so unilateral. They went to war over this minor issue. A loving relationship does not say "I'M RIGHT AND YOU'RE WRONG AND I'M GOING TO USE ALL MY RESOURCES TO DESTROY YOU."

A weird comment seeing how Josh almost literally folded over and gave up. The real problem in the dynamic is Josh not communicating how he's not as tough on his positions as Amy is, and Amy not seeing that even if he made it pretty hard

  • @jimbopumbapigsticks
    @jimbopumbapigsticks 13 років тому +18

The background to this is Josh getting chewed out by the president, asking whether he would be in a better position if Josh's girlfriend worked for him instead of Josh, which rocked the boat on Josh's professional confidence and his relationship with Amy. So Jed Bartlett was basically responsible for precipitating their break-up.

The real problem here is that Amy is not representative of anybody. Neither is josh but at least he works for someone who is elected to represent the people. So when Amy says anything about what she stands for and who she represents, she is speaking out of her ass. It's the same as if I were to make an NGO called "the human society" and claim that I speak for all humans. She's just a grifter.

Meanwhile, in 2022, "...not quite as mean spirited as the other guy" is basically the Democratic Party's entire platform.
