2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Review

- 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Review: The Jeep Grand Cherokee has long occupied an awkward space in the market, finding itself somewhere between mainstream and premium SUVs.
It’s not quite on the same level as anything from Audi, BMW or even Infiniti, but it certainly feels slightly more upmarket than the likes of the Ford Explorer or Nissan Pathfinder. That identity crisis has a noticeable impact on the Grand Cherokee’s pricing, with enough boxes on the order sheet to push it well into premium territory. That’s particularly true for the Canadian market, with its $44,195 starting price coming just shy of the slightly smaller 2018 Audi Q5.
Regardless of its price tag, the Grand Cherokee has a definite advantage over any of its adversaries out on the trail. With a pedigree that predates most other SUVs on the market, the Grand Cherokee doesn’t have quite the same trailblazing bravado as the Jeep Wrangler, but it’s not far off. And no version encapsulates that go-anywhere ability better than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, the roughest, toughest trim in what’s a fairly long list of them.

Started watching this in 2017, just finished it. It's 2021!!!!
Wow 😂😂
1.25x speed really does the trick 👍👍👍, solid review
😂
I want Craig Cole. The Skinny. He is the best, the best.
Namn L ikr
“Oh sorry didn’t see you there!”
So cringe
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
Oh another Dan review? Time to set speed at 1.25x again.
Christopher Walken lol
That skinny guy (think his name Craig Cole) should do all the reviews lol
Christopher Walken Craig would make this a 6 minutes video with the same speech lol
I was just gonna say the same thing. 1.25x makes him sound normal
Put it to 0.75x and you just might have pull your hair out because you have to wait for Dan to say what you know he's going to say.
Gees, all people do now is whine, complain and make fun of the hosts. WTF is everyone's problem?
Josh its their opinion... and look how he fucking talks he is so fucking slow... like he's dead inside
He's speaking in low range.
This.... guy.... talks.... so.... freaking.... slow....
Christopher DeWitt speed it up to 1.25x. He sounds normal then
why would you want someone to speak faster..freaking wierdo
They do that to extend the video
This iiiiiiissss a preeeettyyyyyyy welllll rounded paaaaackaaage.
"Oh sorry, didn't see you there.."
SKIP
Awesome intro, totally original. Love it!
This guy is my favorite reviewer for this channel
took my 2017 trailhawk to joshua tree abd did the old dale road and the berdoo canyon trail. rock crawling and desert run. awesome rig and definitely a capable rig. death valley here i come!
Very good thorough review.
I just purchased a 2020 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk 4x4 Hemi V8 Fully Loaded Except for the Video Screens for the Rear Passengers and the Rock Rails in Sting Gray the Only One within 700 miles of Central FL and got a Great DEAL. The GC TH only had 47 miles on her when I took delivery of her and within the a week of taking her home she was out on the Trail and LOVED IT! Right now the Plan is to PUT Chief Products Rock Rails and the Front End Armor with perhaps the Hidden Winch Plate and then once the tires are used up is to put Falken Wildpeak at3w 265/65r18 which give an AUTOMATIC One Inch Lift by going from 60 to 65 height tire. Phase 2 will probably be a Rear Bumper Upgrade with Swing Away Tire Carrier and Matching Wheel Tire Combo and Warn Winch to balance the Weight!
Best jeep review ive seen. Thank you!
YESSSSSSSSSSS Unreal, the music... I Got all hyped up..
I recently tested the 2017 Grand Cherokee and the 2017 Explorer; agreed that the GC is more refined and feels like a premium SUV although still not on par with BMW and MB. I'd choose the Diesel too. Hope it comes back soon.
Talked too fast. Didnt hear every word clearly enough.
Great review!!!👍👍👍😎😎😎 Considering one!😎😎. Dude! The comments on dialect are way uncalled for. I found zero issues!!!😁😁😁👍
I choose the grand Cherokee Summit over the Lexus gx 460 i love my Jeep
Good review. Just curious, what Toyota 4Runner trim would be comparable to this?
x1.25 vs x1.5? Which do you prefer?
1.5 is barely fast enough.
James Min x2
James Min 2 times is much better
Edit; it's about the same speed as if Craig would do it
Lol. 1.25 speed is perfect.
thank you lmfao
Omg I thought you were just being mean, I didn’t notice how slow he was speaking. But 1.25x actually is perfect
Currently own this jeep. Love it
Would you buy one today for $26k with 75k miles on it if it was in great condition?
@@houstoncoloradono
Brutal vocals...
I love this video....
Jeep should build a customized trailhawk model called Warrior wagon. Fox shocks, Borla exhaust and BFG ko 2s
You don’t need the V8 for off roading. It’s really just for towing. This vehicle has a two speed transfer case. The low range has all the torque you need.
5.7 hemi V8 is the way to go the 3.6 V6 doesn't even push 300 horsepower
this is the one i want the trailhawk with the 5.7
Is this a bed time story?
What was the issue with the other 3l diesel engine?
The comments make me sick
They ignored the purpose of the video and talk about how the guy is speaking
this guy sounds like he's reading to 5 year olds
Canadian.. That's why lol
Can you guys start making reviews again?
Love the TrailHawk, but being only available with black interior knocks it off my shopping list. Luckily, the Limited can be had with most of the off-road equipment. It offers a light interior, but not the exterior black-outs. C'mon FCA, let us have more interior choice, and c'mon dealers, have the balls to stock them!
I can't tell if he likes the car or not. He repeatedly says, "pretty good, pretty well rounded, etc" even when he is attempting to praise the car.
I know this job is more difficult than it seems and lots of people will say they can do better, but this guy is doing a fairly good job. My advice is to eliminate "pretty" from your vocabulary and come up with some new descriptors, adjectives, etc. Otherwise, keep up the good work.
Excellent constructive criticism
Have jeep contact VW to get some pointers on how to get around the diesel problem.
man who taught you to talk like thissssss, geeeeeeez, good night
What's the 0-60 for this hemi V8 version?
Slightly under 7 sec in sport mode
So what about the reliability is it reliable as a land cruiser
The automotive journalist equivalent of William Shatner.
This is supposed to be the best trail rated grand Cherokee but how does it stack up against a 4Runner trd pro? They are about the same size interior wise, with the exception that the 4Runner has more cargo room behind the second row. I love my wife’s grand Cherokee but it can’t do what a real suv is supposed to do. Her Jeep is a 2018 altitude package with 4x4. My biggest complaint is the ground clearance isn’t any good for real off road use. I can handle some light snow or cursing around the beach, but that’s it.
Personally I think that the trail hawk is a waste of money. I’m probably trading in my ram to get a trd premium 4Runner (msrp is around 42k). For $50k I can add a lift, bigger tires and roof rack.
If u put the speed at 0.5x he sounds stoned lmao
You can always expect the comments on an Autoguide video to be absolutely savage. 😂
"All this snow"? Looks like about 1 inch.
What advantages the trailhawk have over the summit on off-road?
Just comes with a better tyre/wheel setup for off-roading, and SRT type seats. Summit has street tyres. Everything else basically the same.
My next vehicle will be an old dented up Ford F150 so I can tightly squeeze into those dainty parking spots up front between two nice cars and not worry about a thing. Instead of car payments I will go on nice vacations to tropical destinations. Is that wrong?
Is no one going to mention that he just threw a knife?! LOL
I sold my 1988 Jeep Wrangler two years ago. I bought it brand new and had it for twenty seven years and rebuilt it once into stock condition. Needed to be rebuilt again but didn't have a garage this time. So I sold it, it was so sad. But a collector bought it and it will now live on for many years! Well these days I'm older in age and with age comfort becomes a priority and so I'm looking at the Jeep Trailhawk. The only option I want for the Trailhawk are the rock rails. Okay I'll take the sunroof and navigation too but I want the granite paint color. Then I'll drive my Trailhawk lets say 98% on asphalt and only 2% on a seasonal rough road to my remote camp. Yes that's why I'm buying an expensive Trailhawk so that I can get my two cents worth of yearly vacation.
The V6 doesn’t have enough kick, even for a part-time trail rig? Really, dude? Did you realize that until very recently, all new Wranglers came with that same engine? Do Wranglers not have enough power to be even part time trail rigs? Heck, you’ve even got low range. Then you go on to talk about how you like wheeling because it’s not about raw power? Are you serious dude?
I’m sure this is mostly you taking artistic license for the sake of the video, but come on man, this is just silly.
The eutdoors
This review gives no indication that the trailhawk is any different from the other V8 models, like the Overland. Same transfer cases, torque-to-wheel off road systems (Quadra Drive)
I have never heard someone pronounce the letter o like this before....is he Canadian?
Why has gobs of torque suddenly become necessary for off roading? The most well known off roaders of the past have hardly had any to wright home about and it's not like the v8 in the Grand Cherokee is lacking torque..She almost has just as much as the Ecodiesel anyways. A diesel may be able to do it better but the Grand Cherokee has to be a jack of all trades. The V8 has more than proven itself to satisfy all aspects. towing off roading, performance, just putting about town and is reliable enough to never wonder if it will leave you stranded. Yes the V8 "will do the trick".
Scotty... We... Need.. The Warpdrive... Now. This guy dramatically pauses more than Shatner.
Does it have air suspension?
OneFace M Yes
I read the comments about speeding up the video and I was thinking man people are cruel, but good Lord I sped it up to 1.25 and it sounds normal. Damn man speak faster.
I keep waiting for him to pull out his spit cup.
I think he's talking with some chaw stuffed into his face.
There’s no guarantee the adds are not fake on this model I tried like five of em they were all bad luck you’d rather try after ur paying ur current one
For a sec I thought the title said trackhawk
Me: *seriously looking for a car*
Him: "oh sorry didn't see you there."
Me: pffft 🤭 dafuq 😂😂😂
Why don't you include how hard it is to change a tire on this mother humper? A ) - there is NO arrow designating the front OR rear lift points. B ) - there was no additional protection block to cover the jack lifting point in the jack box as stated by the MOPAR tire changing video. C ) - the only apparent lift point was a strange oblong hole located in an equally strange cup shaped square piece of metal into which the oblong hole was cut. I tried using that apparent lift point on a flat, clean concrete floor only to watch the crappy jack begin to bend to the left despite the vehicle being in park, brake set and wheels blocked. Had I been on the road or down a trail even one as mild as the one you tested this vehicle on I would be in for a walk, hopefully not in a -30 Alberta winter. I have taken a Dodge Caravan over worse roads. Over all the vehicle is fine but now I'm about to telephone my local tire store for a winter tire swap over. I am NOT impressed.
Amassing that they can get this heavy SUV to perform so well on a relatively moderate off road trail. Fortunately, Dan is right that most of them will never venture off the pavement. It's probably also a good thing that they wont learn that the higher they raise it, the less suspension travel remains and low profile tires are death on the rocky trails in the western US. Most sad is the fact that for less then 1/2 the price, a restored XJ can be steered down a fire road with the driver's right foot - no 2017 stability nanny to spoil the fun!
FYI the Grand Cheroke doesn't not compete with 3 row SUV's that isn't it's market.
i can't find that red color...
Don't get me wrong I like the Grand Cherokee but for the money I would just buy a Wrangler. Considering the trailhawk is damn near 50k. I would just get a Wrangler Rubicon which will smoke the Grand Cherokee on the trails....
please don't give him a range rover he talks about the cost too much
holy crap, this guy really does talk slow..... my mind is blown
He went to journalism school and they teach you to speak like this while on TV.. Gosh... I was about to punch my screen...
Can anyone tell me why the European model doesn't come with those sexy red tow hooks?
If someone is looking at a grand Cherokee doesn’t that say they don’t want or need 3 rows haha.
well, nice sky shot. but this guys talks slow and never says much.. pretty boring.
BTW, the Trailhawk comes with SRT seats, the only way to get them without buying an SRT: good reason to get this over Limited.
i even checked the speed on the video. =/ not good.
Ever notice that every single person who ever does a vehicle review has the exact same cadence to his voice? I'm sorry, and I'm certain it was a good review, but I just couldn't make it through the whole thing.
But the video on 1.5 speed
Looking like Carson Wentz😁
I wouldn’t want something like a BMW or Mercedes.
i could drive my moms old crappy jeep compass thru that paved wood trail.....
trans went on one of these on our last EASY wheeling trip. thing is a piece of junk. Don't buy this
This guy needs to be more enthusiastic.
He speaks so deliberately each one of his words that it makes me want to smack him a bit

Somebody take too many sleeping pills before going to work?
I had to double check the speed of the video... lol this dude talks in slow mo
If your canadian, you shouldn't say out too much.....
Yeah wanted to watch this but got bored and annoyed within the first minute. 😴😴 guess I’ll just have to fine another review
"The market" don't mean shit to me.
Came here thinking I read "trackhawk". Nope!
Sounds like he can’t handle his Dip. Maybe he should switch to Grinds, LOL. Bro.... are you STONED giving reviews? Or someone is displaying a slow teleprompter from the passenger seat
I'll take a 4Runner TRD Pro anyday tbh
HodsBroo try finding a used trd pro for less than $45k
I disagree with the reviewer regarding the engines. The 3.6 liter, 6 cylinder is fine. I don't think the 5.7 Hemi is worth the additional cost not to mention the reduction in fuel economy. My big problem with the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is the relatively small cargo area even with the rear seat folded down. Only 68+ cubic feet.
Lol jeep is better than any Toyota are any foreign junk name quit crying about the jeep
Chill people, hes just stoned.😅
His accent
Terrible review. Not only does the chap sound "high", he also lacks market and competitor knowledge. The MB GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q5 and a few others are all 2 row SUVs. Hasn't stopped then being their brand's best selling SUVs.
You need 3 rows? Get a minivan or Dodge Durango. The JGC Trailhawk is a brilliant all purpose SUV.
Max Troy let's not forget the Lexus RX even though it can't go off road. It's never had a third seat and probably never will but it's the best selling car Lexus makes.
Max Troy and the range rovers
Yeah, not being a three row is a plus for me.
I guarantee this ain’t happening but meh move on at least while there’s quarantine this is as much as gold spam
