I have the same floor as you do, so I will try this. My other floor boards are also polished, does this mean that I need to varnish it afterwards or buy a stain and varnish in one?

do you need to use wood filler or you can go directly to sanding for a repair this big
I did not use wood filler, but I did not have any real gouges, just surface greying.
Question: I have same shade of wood floor. I went through the same process: sanded with 60 then 120; Applied stain- Golden Pecan (same as yours).
Immediately, after applying the stain I noticed darker shade appeared on the wood (unlike yours matching with the rest of the wood floor). I was hoping color might lighten up after few hours but it didn't.
I think I have to use stain striper/remover to remove this stain or sand it again, may be sand it deeper and try again. Do you know what might be causing dark shade appearance after applying this Golden Pecan stain?
you didn't sand enough
hm, yes. I think I would ve sanded a bigger area around the patch, then it would be even less visible. But you create an indent or hole, if there not already was one.
If you want to redo the wole floor you need to sand off the whole floor to the level of that indent I think.
I appreciate the feedback. At some point I will redo the whole floor, but for now at least it blends in, since it really stuck out before.

It looks a bit better but far from perfect. If you chose a wider area you would have got better results.
True, but it looks far better than when I started.
You forgot to vanish the area,,,using wood oil on a vanished floor will never come out nice..
