    How to swim underwater. Push off the wall in a streamlined position, and begin to glide under the water about 6 to 8 inches under the water, and begin to do the breaststroke arms with the breaststroke kick, without coming up for a breath. This will help you stay underwater for a certain period of time without needing to come up for a breath. If you would like to have a great swim underwater, it's suggested that you exhale a little bit so your body can stay underwater while you move your arms and your legs to push yourself through the water. The arms are kind of down like the butterfly.
    You push all the way down with your arms to your hips, kick with your legs, and then recover your arms by bringing them as close as possible to your body, and reach forward to begin the repetition again. Push down, bring your arms down all the way to your hips, and come up with your arms forward. If you begin to run out of air, come up to the surface, take a breath, and then dive down again and repeat the butterfly arms with the breaststroke kick in that repetition. That's how you swim underwater.

    How do you actually stay down? My head or body always naturally float back up when I go deeper and I can't stop it?

    • @bibbabibba1975
      @bibbabibba1975 8 років тому +5

      Professional divers use weights, I don't think you can do much about the floating without letting your breath out

    • @AlesZvolanek
      @AlesZvolanek 8 років тому +9

      you're positively buoyant under the water if you take a deep breath and you can't avoid this (nobody can unless you have weights on, everyone starts to ascend slowly) - you only can compensate it by swimming down - and with good technique its quite easy. the deeper you go the easier it gets to stay down (air in your lungs is compressed and weights more), eventually at about 8 meters (depends on lung capacity) you become neutrally buoyant and if you go deeper you will start to sink if you don't swim up. just practice swimming and knowing how to subsurface (bend down, legs high) without to much effort also helps. and always try stay super relaxed before and during underwater swim, no fast movements etc... you can double your time below the water (and distance) just by being relaxed and knowing how to breath before you dive really in no time. and btw - never hyperventilate.

      +Eric Kelly I can stay at the bottom if if I want to. The secret is to not have lot of oxygen in your lungs. So as you dive, release some air and u can literally sit at the bottom of pool or lake.

    Breast stroke kick gives you better range underwater as in between strokes you are not working any muscles. The less work your muscles do the longer you can go without needing to breathe. Try to glide as far as possible between strokes. Good breast stroke coordination is essential to keeping relaxed. Push with the legs into streamline, glide, pull with the arms, recover.

      Hey that is soooo cool to hear you finally learnt it, Im 11, 12 on friday. Make sure to not have anything on ur body as, swimming belts etc. That will sure make you float. When ur underwater make sure you move ur hands, Arms, Feet, and legs as you would do above but in a more snake way if i can say so. That will make it easier to swim trou' water. I hope it made sense C:

      Gabi 卌 Yeah, it does. It looks so easy when other people do it. I'm gonna be able to go swimming again on Thursday (hopefully), and I plan on practicing swimming underwater more. Until I learn to swim underwater, I don't want to go too deep into the pool. And because of how short I am, 5 feet is too deep for me. xD Happy early birthday btw!

    • @wasgehtsiedasan3093
      @wasgehtsiedasan3093 8 років тому +1

      I couldn't swim underwater at the beginning too and because of the reason you stated. I came to the idea that I exhale deeply before jumping into the water so that means there is no "air sack" that would make you float up. I came to that conclusion because my upper body would always float up and while there is no air in the lungs I can actually dive without unwillingly floating up to the surface

    • @zemaxe13

      It depends a lot on the body composition if doing it in shallow water - people with less muscle mass and more fat will float to the surface even without air in their lungs. People with more muscle mass and less fat won't. I am somewhere in the middle - I float with a full lungs of air, but I go under when my lungs are half-full...

    • @dinnae
      @dinnae 8 років тому +4

      No, it's safe, as long as you don't go deep. If you go deeper than a few meters, you will need to learn how to 'equalize' the pressure in your ears. Also don't stay under water too long, if you're inexperienced, because you might push yourself too far and not recognize that you're running low on oxygen.
