Joe Lorenzen was born and raised in Chico, California. He attended Cal Poly Humboldt, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts and a Master’s in Business administration before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii in 2008. Joe attended the American Brewer’s Guild Intensive Brewing Science and Engineering program in 2013 and spent 2014 supervising the build out and developing recipes for Waikiki Brewing Company’s 2015 opening. As co-founder and brewmaster, Joe is stoked to have shared his ideas with millions of people in the form of delicious beer. Cheers!
Waikiki Brewing Company opened its first location in Waikiki in 2015. The seven barrel brewhouse in Waikiki is capable of producing 1100 barrels a year and was at capacity almost immediately, leading the brewery to start looking for a second location. They found the ideal spot in Honolulu’s historic brewing district in up and coming Kaka’ako. The 20 barrel brewhouse and high ceilings have allowed Waikiki Brewing Company to more than quadruple production and become the third largest producer of craft beer in the state of Hawaii. In 2020 amidst a global pandemic they were able to open a 3rd Brewery on the island of Maui in Lahaina. This newest location features stunning, fully unobstructed ocean views and a brewing location like none other on the planet! Waikiki Brewing Company has found success on the national stage, winning medals at the Great American Beer Festival, the US Open Beer Championship, and the Denver International Beer Competition. Joe Lorenzen is brewmaster, co-founder, and a graduate of the American Brewer’s Guild Intensive Science & Engineering program.
