Rivers kept mementos and the book contains scripts and monologues, letters from famous friends, exchanges with fans, rare photographs, as well as classic and never-before-heard jokes - many simply scribbled on everything from hotel stationery to airplane boarding passes. Touching on subjects from her 50 years in show business, it's a revelatory and humor-filled insiders look.

My cousin worked for Joan as an assistant in the 90’s. Joan was one of the kindest people you’d ever know. She went to the wall for so many people and thought nothing of it. Everything didn’t have to be a spectacle of her benevolence. That’s class!

I lost my father a month ago. It was truly the most difficult thing I’ve ever lived. Ever since I was a little kid I was “taught” to be afraid of so many things, but loosing my mom or dad was definitely a fear I was never told about. My relationship with my father was beautiful, we were friends and he’d tell me how proud he was of me and how much he loved me. I sadly lost him while I was living in a different country and was unable to say goodbye physically one last time as he passed in less than 2 days. Watching this interview has given me the strength to know I’ll someday talk about my magnificent father the way Melissa talks about Ms. Rivers. This was a beautiful interview, I started to watch JR when I was probably 15. I am a 25yo gay mexican man and she definitely had the type of humor I love!! God bless her and my father who are both in heaven enjoying eternity after all the beautiful ways they both touched the people they met. Thanks Melissa and Whoopi. Much love. xx

I am so pleased to have seen Joan perform live in a small basement club in mid-town shortly before her untimely death. It was a last minute invite to a spur of the moment performance I was told. She used to do these to try out new material I heard. What a fabulous remembrance of her. I grew up watching Joan on Ed Sullivan and even though I didn't get all the jokes I adored her ever since. So, so sad to see her go. Melissa seems to have really stepped up to the mark - Mrs. Rosenberg would be proud.

I love Joan as well as a gay man its in my DNA I would say. But her homour is its strongest when she does self deprecating humor. other than self deprecating humor her jokes generally fall flat, go over peoples head or just fall short. She was ok over all at best. She was only good when she was hateful towards others or made fun of herself. She definitely was a one trick pony, and thats what is admirable about her. She was not very talented and yet her strong worth ethic propelled her through out all these years. The Jews have always been able to stay on top some how. I wish all the other races would be as smart as the jews. With the exception of middle America that is just a lost cause. Fucking your cousins and then judging others makes no sense at all. What makes no sense to me at all are African Americans that are religious through Christianity. These black people are trying to be closer to god by reading the bible when in reality the Whites are the ones that forced them jesus down their throats during slavery and yet they still hold on to their god?!! Why can't people think for them selves and look stuff up. You will be depressed no matter what, why not be depressed by the cause of knowing too much and being smart.

Or maybe its part of her contract to come off as the angry black women on national television. Regardless, she is one thousand times better than Wendy Williams. Wendy Williams is a Vile creature, and the whites in power that gave her that show as a platform are just as satan like.

Joan stated many times she thought Trump would make a great president and she also said she doesn’t want to be associated with feminism! She said if you work hard you can get what you want. No matter if you’re male or female.

The president statement might have been said earlier, without her knowing all his beliefs and platforms; that's why Melissa said that Joan would've initially been on his team, but would've ultimately been a staunch supporter of Hillary.

I've seen a lot of people be very nasty about Melissa and accuse her of riding her mom's coattails and whatnot, but I think they're failing to ignore what a massive personality Joan was-few people are that way, and Melissa certainly isn't. Joan wanted her to be part of her career, and I don't think she would have had it any other way. The payoff for Melissa is that she helped participate in her mother's legacy, which in turn has given her a very comfortable life. It's no different than kids working the family business really. I do think people are harshly critical of her where she doesn't deserve it. She seems like a down to earth, smart, nice person.

    • @johnn.5033
      @johnn.5033 5 років тому +4

I think it's a little bit regarding how Joan was a monumental personality so it was easy to be overshadowed, but I also think it stems more from their past as red carpet personalities on E! and TV Guide. Joan went from being this very adored, respected albeit loud mouth and shocking comedian, late night host, and Emmy Award-winning daytime host right up there with Oprah and Phil Donahue to all of the sudden having to reinvent herself as this sideshow freak in a lot of ways. The red carpet on E! was a step up from public access television. It was a thankless job for entertainment news reporters, not iconic comedians, but Joan sensed that people had an interest in it so she was going to take the job and give it her all. She made it an event, but unfortunately contributed to a very negative aspect of our culture which sometimes would borderline on mean. It was going to be natural for people to associate Melissa as the "bitchy skinny loud mouth daugher" of insult comedian Joan Rivers. Watching them on their reality and watching Joan's documentary humanized them both so much to me and made me fall in love with them.

I was such a huge fan of J.R'S and what's really funny to me is my Father was a real piece of work as far as his views on things ( I'll leave it at that ) but as much as a hard-assed/nosed man he was when it came to many things, he was a huge fan of Joan's? he might've never admitted it to most people but I remember many times of him just having a really deep belly laugh at her jokes or stories while hosting the tonight show or a guest on another show, which for him wasn't an easy task to achieve...She was and will always be a true gift and the world will never be the same without her fearless and outrageous ability to make people laugh and smile!

I've always liked Whoopi, Joan and Melissa. I've been wondering something for awhile, so please don't be upset that this is in these comments. I have a question for anyone who has an answer or may be able to share if they feel the same way. This in no way affects the way I feel about anyone. Some people, many people in many videos use swear words as naturally as any other word. There are so many appropriate words they could use in place of it. Did this come from TV. Are they swearing all over the TV these days? They didn't used to. Everyone feels differently and do have every right to use the words they choose. But I just wish they would understand that some people are sensitive to it and makes it hard to watch things they enjoy, and I do like Whoopi, Joan and Melissa like I said. For those who don't smoke may be able to compare it to trying to enjoy a good meal in a restaurant while they're surrounded by cigarette smoke. Some people can't because it makes them sick. My wish and I'm sure others as well, is that people use swearing while talking off camera. If I have to miss good videos because they choose to share those words with us, they have the right, maybe. It's just getting harder for those of us who are sensitive to it to find things to watch, and videos and TV should be able to be enjoyed by everyone. It is refreshing that Melissa is being honest. Not everyone is.

FIRST, I still so miss Joan Rivers; she was one of the most funniest gals in comedy. 😂 💕
R.I.P. Ms. Rivers, you are so sorely missed! 😔 😭
THIS is the Whoopie that I fell in love with 2-3 decades or more ago 💕!!!
    Stand-Up, comedy genius!!! 😂
Most treasured movie/soundtrack of all time - "The Color Purple!" 💜
    Whoopie, comedy genius! ❤️
I so wish she would stay away from politics as it gets between people and the differences can absolutely destroy relationships and admiration.
To borrow and repeat an old phrase; "Can't we all just get along?!" ❤️ 🕊 💛 🕊 ❤️ 🕊 💛
