    Silicon the drilled holes and the stem of the rivet prior to installing. Wet installed rivet helps with water proofing. Great video

    Heat shrink tubing would be cleaner than tape. It's sold in 36" lengths. Black rivets are also available. Thanks for the video, the paint came out nice!

    Instead of using electrical tape to wrap the u bolts, I picked up some 3/8" heat shrink tubing and heat shrank them on. It works good and comes in various colors.

      Yes many have said that. It does work and look good as well as a good idea. I was going to do that as well but was too lazy and tired the day I installed on my trailer and U-Bolts to go get it. 😂 But yes next time I will use heat shrink.

    plasti dip works well for the mount brackets. It provides protection as well as grip so it doesn't allow the tube to spin.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  Рік тому

      That is a good idea as well. So far I have had no problems with the tube moving around on the trailer. Over 5k miles and still holding out good with just the tape. If I start having problems I will take off and use the plastic dip stuff. Thank you.

    Instead is using rivets, I wonder if you could’ve used PVC glue and permanently bond the end caps to the PVC pipe?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  Рік тому

      The caps are aluminum so won’t bond. You can probably use JB weld or something but there is too much play in the caps. Only other way is if you just use a good silicone like I did and that will hold them on for sure. The rivets give me a better feeling of security.
      You can use pvc cap on one side and glue it. If you just need the tube for transporting and not leaving anything in there you can just use the pvc sewer cap on the other side and just unscrew it.
      There is many ways to do this, but to get the brackets and the price as a kit you might as well use the aluminum caps.

    Did you put a primer before spraying? Do you think could put a pattern or grain looking pattern. how much did it cost for all your materials?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  Рік тому +1

      The paint has primer built. No primer needed. No sanding needed. The paint melts/bond to pipe. All materials used are in the description and I also go over cost in video. I think it runs around $220-320 depending on where live. If you can find pipe like I did it will be about $120. As far as design you can do whatever you want.

    Do u need to sand the pipe before u paint it?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  Рік тому +1

      No sir. Just clean it good with soap and water. Let it dry. That paint adheres to it very well. I have had no issues to date with paint coming off. Trailer has over 5k miles and lots of bugs and rocks flying at the tube on the highway. But if you want to do a light sanding I am sure it does not hurt. Just make sure the tube is dirt and dust free before applying. Hope yours turns out awesome!

      Just soap and some water. Just make sure the dirt is off or. The Krylon spray paint adheres to PVC very well. Almost melts to it. Just make sure you let it cure for a good week to be safe. It’s been holding up good so far.

    How many baitcasting rod/reel combinations can you fit in an 8 inch tube? Second, where can I buy the pipe? I checked Lowes/Home Depot and they only sell 6 inch. Thx

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  9 місяців тому

      You can fit up to 12 rod and reels but need to offset front and back. The conduit itself you need to go to a plumbing supply house to get 8 inch or bigger.

  • @bbqbandit3453
    @bbqbandit3453 10 місяців тому +1

    What length of 8” tube did you use?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  10 місяців тому

      I made it 8 foot as I don’t have any rods longer than 7’6” and never will. 2 foot less of 8 inch pipe saves a lot of weight as it is not light.

    • @bbqbandit3453

      I notice on Amazon the end caps appear not drilled for the rivets you installed to hold the end caps on. Or are they already drilled to accept the rivets?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  9 місяців тому

      @bbqbandit3453 no sir. I drilled through the aluminum end caps where I wanted to install rivets. They let you use you own hardware or install how you want. You can use a decent amount of good silicone to, you can say “glue” them on as well. And wipe off the extra silicone and let it set up for a few days. Silicone will hold just fine and you won’t be able to take as well. I just over do everything

  • @ThomasShue

    Drill the rivet, easiest of all to steal. Lol
    How long is the pvc pipe?

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  27 днів тому

      You can also take a sawzall and cut the cap off. The fastest is to take a grinder to the padlock. That takes about 3 seconds.
      I made the conduit 8 feet.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  27 днів тому +1

      BTW drilling the rivets will not work. There is also silicone all the way around both ends. That will not let go.
