Building something yourself is the best part of doing anything. The fact you know that no one else can run out and get what you got is one of the best feelings in the world. Nice work
cons of trailer: registration, upkeep, storage, toll roads count it as an extra axle and charge extra. Pros: literally just have your kayak fully rigged ready to plop into the water. Easy to load back up after a long day on the water. awesome flex on the highway. tldr; i want a trailer someday😂
How does this channel not have more subscribers. Seriously this channel is great. I watched the short the other day with the app that has all of the links from every video this channel has posted. Thank you so much for that very helpful.
Great build video. I like longer format videos like this. I added LED strip lights in both of my Yakima rod boxes and used a magnetic switch mounted to the lid so that the lights turn off when the lid is closed.
I previously had a truck ladder rack on my trailer. Those crossbars are a real pain during the load/offload process. This video convinced me to make a change. Thanks
I really liked your kayak trailer upgrade I have the same problem with my poles. In and out of my car. I am going to get one of those rod boxes and build a trailer just like yours. Thank you so much for the great ideas.
Love the kayak trailer upgrades and the longer video format! I built a kayak trailer myself about a year and a half ago and I love having the step on the side. SOOOO much easier loading. I got my inspiration from another guy on one of the kayak trailer build FB pages and some from OTWI trailers.
Most importantly it fits your specific needs . Thats good enough so well done ! Personally I keep My yak basically lean and uncluttered . Free of modern techno toys. A floating VHF radio , cell phone and portable nav lights are enough.
Nice build. You'll be the first guy on the block to have a $ 25k kayak. Everything you've done makes me ask why didnt they do that from factory. Then it hits me, people want these to save a little money. Love your videos. Keep em coming. God bless and Ya'll have a blessed Thanksgiving.
Awesome! Just food for thought- on the other side running parallel with the box, you should add some fishing rod tubes instead and keep that box for other personals to balance the trailer.
TJ, another great build. I like the DIY stuff, so this longer format is right up my alley. Great pointer about the burn on your arm, sorry you got burned, but I am just learning to weld, so that was a great point for me. The trailer is awesome. I just installed some LED lights in my Yakima Top Water Box. I had a bunch of those lights like you used, the stems broke, so I changed them out for 4” Kayak LEDs. I wired them very similarly to what you have, but use a small pocket sized power pack using a usb connector. A lil extra wiring, but not bulky battery in the box. I really like the k Truck Bedliner idea, Imma have to steal that idea.😂😂 The DIY Trailer is coming along. Hope to have it all ready to go for a reveal on my channel. Lost some footage, so went back and did a walk through of each phase of the build. Great job brother, it is awesome. Well done. Love the gimbal but $370 is steep for my budget.🤣🤣
Great build out your videos are awesome - just got my own yak this summer and would like to build out a trailer like your set up! Respect !!!!! Keep em coming
Nice job TJ ! I love all these ideas you put out there. I should get going this year with my yak but not sure if I want to start off with one to car top at first but the end game is definitely to have a trailer pulled yak.
Really good video ! I am tackling my first trailer rehab for my autopilot . Yoi have given me a lot of good ideas and confidence to do them . Also , great idea regarding setting your box where it does imped putting your rods in ... Really smart ! I may have not thought about that
It looks really good. I want to add a Yakima rod box on my trailer but it's just out my price range right now. I just use the cal-coast rod holder to bundle my and load them in my truck for now.
Awesome job I’m hoping to build a double set up for me and my son to get rid of our pos Malone but don’t have a shop big enough to do it right now unfortunately. Really enjoyed the longer format videos
Great video. You are extremely talented. I don’t usually like videos this long but yours was full of information with little to no fluff. Thanks for posting this. Is the video of the original build of this trailer available. I have a NuCanoe Frontier 12 and would love to try building a clone of what you have.
Just wondered what brackets you used to put those 2 holes in the center of the trailer fender. I have been having a horrible time finding the brackets.
I used one of those boxes tell someone broke into it. I had a heavy cover made and all my rods are on the kayak ready to go as soon as i pull that cover
I’ll be doing similar, mount a box to the trailer, gonna borrow some of your ideas. With that said, what would be the pros and cons of using the box you used, vs an 8’ truck tool box?
Great build, lots of good building tips, paint, glue, square tube structure. I didn't see in your links of what ratchet straps you are happy with or what you would recommend or using? You should get with a trailer manufacture like Malone and get a Patent on your design build. Keep up the great videos, shorts are best, but longer videos are okay, there is a Pause and History button if you can't watch it all at once :)
Really like the build, I would like to know how long it took you to stop busting your knee on that step (while winching). Knowing my luck (and potentially for my weight) I would probably have ran an angled tube from that harsh point towards the hitch/tongue and put the mesh over that as well. Still would streamline it, and protect my knees with a smoother transition. Still liking your ideas and helps me with my build (only I’m trying to make one carry 6 kayaks…)
The only thing I saw on your trailer that I did similar on mine is that forward strap. For some reason it rubbed a grove in my kayak. The other strap has done nothing to it. So now I just use the one strap on the back half of the kayak.
Just curious, doesn't the back end of the yakima box need to be higher so when you you launch from a steep launch site the back of the kayak when floating doesn't hit the bottom of the box? Hope that makes sense. :)
How do you lock your kayak onto the trailer if you have to spend the night in a hotel? I’ve been using locking Kevlar and stainless steel straps, but still cannot get a good night’s sleep!
Why not join our group of backwards thinkers? #droneyak load the kayak backwards and launch / load with remote control and spot lock. You don’t even need to leave the truck while launching. Wet feet and a 4 step process with a tether, leaving the kayak off to the side is silly. I’ve drone launched and loaded my Hobie PA-17T this way hundreds of times. Kids cheer , Men fist bump and Women still ignore me lol Great channel buddy
Please tell me you remove your fish finders and tackle boxes mounted on the side of your black box 🎉when traveling. Vibration is not good for your fish finders . Will you be able to lock battery storage areas from those that want to checkout your rig while you are in eating your Burger and fries. I just recently picked up my new double kayak trailer from Tennessee Trailers replacing my previous trailer. I know from fishing tournaments on the road I often find it difficult parking my truck and rig in the most advantageous place ( restaurants/BNBs) and often find admirers viewing my rig. We all know people enjoying looking at quality and innovation, I do. But then there are those that want to enjoy our stuff as well. I wish I had your ability, equipment and knowledge of use to do what you do. I was experienced enough to know additional items needed and requested the items and Tennessee Trailers (David) was able make my trailer spot bon my new trailer Tennessee Trailers looks really good under my Hobie 360 PA 14.
Building something yourself is the best part of doing anything. The fact you know that no one else can run out and get what you got is one of the best feelings in the world. Nice work
I totally agree! Thanks man!
Also I like these longer videos because they’re m detail oriented and I like to learn new stuff and new tricks

Great build video. I like longer format videos like this. I added LED strip lights in both of my Yakima rod boxes and used a magnetic switch mounted to the lid so that the lights turn off when the lid is closed.
Heck yeah!
Love everything you did on the trailer.
Lov all your video I do like the longer video from start to finish you have so many great ideas your video always keeps my attention all the way threw
Awesome build. I like the DIY vids and longer formats
Thanks man! 👊🏼
I previously had a truck ladder rack on my trailer. Those crossbars are a real pain during the load/offload process. This video convinced me to make a change. Thanks
What a clean build! Love it!
those look great, you really are talented.
Turned out great. I like the longer videos for sure. This build turned out great.
Awesome, thank you!
I really liked your kayak trailer upgrade I have the same problem with my poles. In and out of my car. I am going to get one of those rod boxes and build a trailer just like yours. Thank you so much for the great ideas.
Glad I could help!
All I can say is that's BAD ASS !!!!!
Thanks man!!

I think it looks really good nice job right detail very very professional good job Ray from Michigan
Thanks 👍
Loved this video and style. keep it coming!
Thank you! Will do!
Good looking trailer. I think you could make a living making kayak trailers
Thanks man! I wish… lol
Awesome build!
I like your step for your Kayak Trailer and rod the metal frame for the rod carrier, and the lights, awesome look.
That is a sweet setup gives me something to think about. Thanks
Love your builds and modifications. I wish I lived closer to you so I could maybe get some of your help. This rod storage box is perfect.
I like the longer videos.
Awesome! Just food for thought- on the other side running parallel with the box, you should add some fishing rod tubes instead and keep that box for other personals to balance the trailer.
Need a beer box. Lol awesome build!
Not a bad idea 😂
That was a great video. The only thing I would change is the step. I would extend it on both sides for stability, symmetry and convenience
This was such a slick bad ass build!

I'm loving the build I did order the same wheels from recstuff per your recommendation so thank you for that.
No problem , glad my video was helpful 🤙🏼
Use 3 m 90 , those look like Yp button lights, Roxom boat bunks are awesome, might look into them
Really good video ! I am tackling my first trailer rehab for my autopilot . Yoi have given me a lot of good ideas and confidence to do them . Also , great idea regarding setting your box where it does imped putting your rods in ... Really smart ! I may have not thought about that

Thanks ✌️
Awesome job I’m hoping to build a double set up for me and my son to get rid of our pos Malone but don’t have a shop big enough to do it right now unfortunately. Really enjoyed the longer format videos
Both lengths of videos are good!!
Glad you like them! Thanks 🤙🏼
Badass build bro

Hello I like your kayak set up 👍
Hey, thanks!
Grat job
😊
Nice !
Just wondered what brackets you used to put those 2 holes in the center of the trailer fender. I have been having a horrible time finding the brackets.
Genius
Nice build, you may want to double the lock nuts on bottom so the vibration of going down the road doesn’t back it off. 🤙🏼
Think you’ll make you a customized rod box
I’ve made a few , check out my UA-cam channel
Did you post the link for those ratchet straps? Maybe I’m missing it. Really cool build. I wish I knew how to weld!

Thanks! I like these longer videos

I would love to buy that trailer from you !
Do you leave most everything on your kayak when you trailer it? Trolling motor, electronics, etc…?
Yep, the only thing I take off and stick in my truck is my rear motor. 👍🏼
You could fit a small solar panel to top of box that will keep the battery charged.
I really need to learn to weld
Where do store your Newport motor when on the road or do you leave on the yak? Great vid.

It doesn’t, it’s working great. 👍🏼
How long did you make the angled bars on top that the Yakima Top Water is mounted to?
What trailer wheels and tires do you have installed on your trailer?
Love this stuff!! New here. Do you have any plans to help us new DIY’ers
Working on it!
What kind of welder are you using and what is the amp
What is the thickness of the expanded metal mesh?
How do you lock your kayak onto the trailer if you have to spend the night in a hotel? I’ve been using locking Kevlar and stainless steel straps, but still cannot get a good night’s sleep!
I've noticed you got away from the whip lights on the back of the trailer. Any particular reason?
For gods sake Artist?
I scratched out better when I was in diapers !!
Engineering ? You the man! 🐟
What size are the ratchet strap the link doesnt work
amzn.to/487sYob
How does it do on the highways?
Silicone spray will keep the straps working better
Good to know!
For the Love of God, PLEASE tell me how you cut the expanded metal mesh so perfectly?? Was it just a cut off wheel on your angle grinder?
Yep, Just a cut off wheel on the ole angle grinder 👍🏼
@@KayakUSA1 and then welded down all the points that would’ve left behind, I’d guess? Those things are straight-up razor death
Boat buckle straps are alot better, had the same issue in the past with the rachet straps like you were using
are you in south carolina?
Alabama 🤙🏼
@@KayakUSA1 ahh gotcha you said gamecocks so I assumed lol
I don’t see the link to those ratchet straps
