This is great! When I was playing I started singing all the notes I played and it was absolutely amazing how much more musical my improvisation got immediately. That is the best method for breaking out of patterns and scale shapes and really playing what's in your head. Highly recommended. Great sounding backing track, too. Thanks
hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about blues jam tracks try Jadonite Guitar Blues Buddy (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my partner got amazing results with it.
OH Boy ! This is where it 's at! The kind of music that you can play all nite. Gives you that nice dark smoky lounge feel. Thank you the wonderful memories. Thank you Thank you
while playing to this back tracking, i realized that blues was just about the feels and not the chords or anything.. i could jam basically everything on this....
Quist I have like a month jamming to your tracks with my recently adquired Sax, dude they are incredible. Keep the good work, I even listen to them to chill some time. Amazing
This is so nice Quist. My instrument is voice so, it's hard for me not to want to improv while listening. This is so so nice. Thank you. This is a watch later.
Nice Quistjam ! If I may suggest something, commonly used scales are G melodic minor on the Gm (more often Gm6 than Gm7) and A locrian 9M on the Am7b5. Same scale for the chord voicings (and D altered on D7 as you suggested of course). Hope that helps! Keep rockin'!
Hey, first of all thanks for the track. Although it's not intended for drummers I've been practicing along with it, getting ideas for comping. So thanks for the upload !
Man, great work. I love it a lot. In the beginning of the video, where you are doing some impro, you are using some chords that i love the sound, but i cannot both recognize nor reproduce, is really frustrating, can you tell me the name of the chords if is not very annoying?
Thanks Santiago Braga :) The whole first bit is in octaves (the same note in two different registers)... then chords at 0:36 Am(7)b5 to D7#9b13 (the hendrix chord, without the root note)... followed by D7#5#9 / D7#5b9 - Gm9 Gm11 - and then back to the octaves.... I hope that helps \m/
Hi man,, Great Jazz Backing tracks I have been jamming along your stuff for a while now and I was wondering if I can use some of those tracks for my upcoming jazz session videos and I will of course keep it credited to you and under your name ( Backing track by QuistJam) Also I was wondering if you have any or will be making more complex form of backing tacks ( Key changes etc) It would be more interesting for me in that manner. Thanks YOU are awesome and keep the good work.
+Toni Bali Hey Toni! All sounds great.. yes, as long as credit with link(s) is given it's all good! Would love to check out the results and promote it to my audience when you've made some videos... so be sure to let me know!! And thanks for the feedback re more chord changes etc!!!
Next week is JAZZ WEEK on QuistJam! Any suggestions and requests???? Let me know on this video OR facebook.com/Quistguitar OR twitter.com/Quisttweet THANKS - happy jamming!
Jens Larsen haha, sure! You know your jazz!!! I will only do a few ones based on actual standards tho.. most of them will be based more around concepts.. like fast jazz blues, minor 2-5-1, rhythm changes, etc :)
+Chris Zoupa (Learn That Solo) cool man!! it's 7 and 6 if you see it from the perspective of the relative major (Bb) yes... but most people would choose to see it as Gm being the root (the relative minor of Bb major)... hence Am7b5 (II), D7 (V), Gm7 (I).... I hope that helps!!!?!
QuistJam I think i would like to see some cool progression that uses some alt. chords. A lot of people don't really go into depths of dominant chords, something on that theme would be nice... Thank you once again, for this great backing track.
Hey, should I use any certain mode for this track? I'm only asking because pentatonic sounds beautiful with this track and i'm not sure if I could be able to use any mode.
just play octaves in the scale...nothing much to it. I mean worst comes to worst and you have to learn it by ear which is less time consuming than reading out tab let alone typing it out.
***** Bb major is the enharmonic equivalent of G minor... same exact notes, different mood based on how and where you resolve it. This same principle applies all the way up the 'modes,' for instance you could also play a really nice C Dorian scale on top of this, the only problem would be resolving it, since this clearly wants to resolve to Minor (also known as Aeolian to the greeks). You might be able to get away with it if you substituted the iim7b5 chord with a ivm7. As complex as all of this MIGHT sound it's actually very simple compared to real jazz theory. :P
Often times you'll find a dominant 7 chord preceding the 1 chord. So while D Phyrgian would be diatonically correct, this composition chooses to play otherwise. That said, I like to add a flat 13 to the D7 .
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover guitar backing jam tracks try Jadonite Guitar Blues Buddy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.

Jens Larsen haha, sure! You know your jazz!!! I will only do a few ones based on actual standards tho.. most of them will be based more around concepts.. like fast jazz blues, minor 2-5-1, rhythm changes, etc :)
Yeah that's probably more useful too :)
My theory is a little hazy on numbers... Shouldn't it be a 7 5 6?? m7b5 dom7 Gm7??? Sorry for the question.

MAIOR LENDA DA GUITARRA JAZZ - WES MONTGOMERY - (03/1923 - 06/1968)
Hey, should I use any certain mode for this track? I'm only asking because pentatonic sounds beautiful with this track and i'm not sure if I could be able to use any mode.
+nikolas kalimeris great! Scale suggestions in the description :)
Thanks a bunch bro :) Great great backing track by the way.
this is not a BACKING TRACK! This is an IMPROVISATION!
Chamge the title please
Well.....
+Fabio Pagan I'm assuming you didn't even get passed the 51 sec mark? Dude. lol
QuistJam What scale would you recommend to use in these kind of progressions?
Hi Victor - check out the video description for scale suggestions!!
How do you play that octave thing on the start. Is there a possibility that you write a tab for it ?
just play octaves in the scale...nothing much to it. I mean worst comes to worst and you have to learn it by ear which is less time consuming than reading out tab let alone typing it out.
What shape are you using at the start (and pretty much throughout)?
Octaves! A la Wes Montgomery....
I found that a Bb major scale works beautifully over this. Can anyone help me understand why?
***** Bb major is the enharmonic equivalent of G minor... same exact notes, different mood based on how and where you resolve it. This same principle applies all the way up the 'modes,' for instance you could also play a really nice C Dorian scale on top of this, the only problem would be resolving it, since this clearly wants to resolve to Minor (also known as Aeolian to the greeks). Turned713 thanks so much!
in the harmonic minor scale, dont you lower the leading tone not the submediant?
WOW !!!! i love your tracks !!!! i want a long one in Eb MINOR !!! you really keep me going !!!!
Is the D7 minor? i don't know much about theory, but in soloing and jamming these chords it seems like the D7 is minor
+Moi Kaimann Thanks :)
Often times you'll find a dominant 7 chord preceding the 1 chord.
So while D Phyrgian would be diatonically correct, this composition chooses to play otherwise.
That said, I like to add a flat 13 to the D7 .
sexy time!
haha
what bass line for this pleasee??

Soo... we don't use a b5 in the arpeggio of a min7b5? Now I'm confused... 😩
Joecarvin - you ROCK! Thank you, apparently I was a little too quick for my own good writing those out... !! All sorted..
in other words.. YES we do :)
😮
I think you can play this thru key of Bb. Its like 7 -3 - 6...
interesting points ,if anyone else wants to discover guitar backing jam tracks try Jadonite Guitar Blues Buddy (just google it ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got great success with it.
iiø V7 i
Yes - We know you can play ... A person might think - 10 bazillion Guitarists out there so maybe ...some backing tracks WITHOUT the Frickin' guitar ?
