- It's finally time to repaint and finish that Nerf Crosscut!! A quick note to Alan (xohmyheadx) as promised here is the repaint of the Nerf Crosscut, I hope it's still of help even without the blade!
This is a Nerf Crosscut cosmetic mod with a bit of a botched internal mod thrown in lol. Hope it's of use Nerf fans!
Wow, I never liked the zombiestrike styling with all the spare parts slapped together, but you just made this look incredible. This is how it was supposed to look!
You are super kind thank you!
It's quite insane that you drybrush literally everything, but you've definitely taught me to be patient and to layer with my drybrushing which has been very positive!
I really need to so some tutorials of other techniques as I don't actually always drybrush... but yeah, probably 90% of the time lol It's just so good!
I actually like the new light.. It makes it clearer when you paint.
Funny I prefer the yellow over the red :D given me a few ideas for future paint jobs
I shall keep the light unless others complain. Thanks for the feedback on that, I'd totally forgotten I'd asked. Still not sold on that yellow, but thank you!
I have watched about five of your Nerf gun painting videos and I am blown away. Amazing work.
LOL your username. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind words. Appreciated!
I've always used small artists brushes to do my drybrushing, cause I don't mask things off. I've always been afraid of the tape marring the finish of parts I've already painted. I never even thought of attaching the tape to the table first to lessen it's grip. Genius. Using the bigger brush must really make things go faster. Of course these days I use Rub N Buff almost exclusively for metallic finishes. But I've been wanting to branch out to non-steampunk guns, perhaps anime weapons, where your method would be perfect. Speaking of Rub N Buff, I would have never thought to use the rub n buff application technique with acrylic paint. Thanks for that too. :)
Oh and I love the yellow. Looks fantastic actually.
I have one set of tutorial videos on youtube so far. 5 videos for one project start to finish. But if you want to see some of my other work, you can find it at my deviantart: caelyntek.deviantart.com/ or my facebook toy gun projects album: facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153939954694618.1073741919.585074617&type=1&l=881bca1c05
I've used rub-n-buff as well, that's where I got the idea, the thing I don't like about it is the 'gets everywhere' thing. With the acrylic you can literally rub it off if you overdo it, with rub-n-buff it's like OMG NOOOOO lol
It's funny how many people love the yellow lol. I'll definitely check out your work Caelyn, thanks so much for sharing it.
And here I was thinking I was the only person ever to make a Nerf blaster guitar mod lol LOVE your stuff, that BOOMbox is awesome!! Very very cool. I don't really use DA anymore, but I've followed you on Instagram. Thanks so much for sharing your amazing work.
Thanks. Where can I find your Guitar mod?
I've gotten used to the "gets everywhere" problem with Rub N Buff. And by "gotten used to" I really mean I've just developed ways to keep myself from overdoing it, and I always check my fingers before doing anything else. :) If I do end up getting rub on buff on a part of the project I don't want it on, I just wait a bit, paint over it with black (or whatever color I originally primed with) and it's a clean slate.
And now that I've seen your guitar mod, now I'm thinking that maybe I had seen your guitar, at least in passing, when I first had my idea to make the Prince guitar. The way I remember it, I saw the first images of the NERF Centurion, and when I saw the geometry of where the magazine was and how long the neck was, I immediately knew I could make the Symbol out of it. But maybe having seen your guitar put the itch in my brain in the first place, cause the Centurion came out the same time your blog post about your guitar was posted.
Wow, Angela! I am totally going for the obvious paint job with the silver saw blade and blood (and maybe some rust?), and you went way off script! :D I do love how you dry brush. The results are just stunning. Thank you so much for returning to this blaster. You have once again motivated me to get moving on things. - Alan
p.s. Do you not have an AC adapter to plug into your camera so it doesn't die while you're shooting?
You know what it is with the camera, I think something will take say 3 hours and it ends up taking 12 lol. I have to take in inside to charge because... laziness. Glad you liked this one and you're welcome! I wanted to make sure I did after saying so. Now.. what is next!
Looks great. Regarding the lighting I like the new light but I never had issues with the videos without it either. As for the yellow, the only thing I can think of is it's brighter on the edges so it looks like the edges are the parts that aren't worn or rubbed down whereas generally it's the other way.
Yeah it's more a cel-shaded look for sure on the edges. Definitely should have gone blue or some other color still lol.
really awesome work! you and coatduck are excellent nerf ambassadors keep up the amazing work
I am a Coatduck fan too. Thanks Jomo!
She is pretty great we both want nerfenstien blasters, since i do not have fb she was nice enough to furnish me with you commission form, i hope its something that might interest you, keep up the great job
I am absolutely useless on gmail, because of spam and other annoyances, that's why I tend to run messaging on FB, because I'm on there every day, not just once every couple of weeks. I'll probably get back to you on the weekend :)
not a problem, if need be Alice will help me with the FB as its not for me but i am quite excited at the prospect of having something done by you, thanks
Very nice job on this piece, the extended video time was certainly worth it! Ive seen this one in stores for awhile but never got it since that saw blade just never looked right to me. So I was simply ecstatic when I saw that you decided to do this one! I actually really like the yellow and red color scheme on it since when I look at the gun I think of something that's been pieced together over the years. Like the body of the gun is an old nail gun or something akin to that and its been modified for bullets. Then the owner of the gun happened across an ammo case that he then welded onto the side along with the wrench. Overall very nice job and I believe this is easily my favorite piece of yours. Keep up the amazing work!
Wow thanks Cody. I'm still not sure about that yellow, but thanks for much for the lovely positive comment. I feel like the blasters in this line are definitely found bits all thrown together over time for sure. Want to do more now for sure.
This looks INSAANE!! This mods and paintings were only in thoughts and you.make me see that can become truee!
I'm so sorry it ook me so long to reply to your comment Byron. Only just saw it. Means a lot you took the time to respond. So glad you enjoyed it.
wonderful!!
Cheers!
Outstanding work! Thanks for sharing!
I can always count on your positivity Patrick, thank you!
Was ng on a lightsaber prop while watching this ^_^ I think it'd would have looked better in blue, but personal preference I guess =) I'd like to see some more painting techniques? Like chipping, wood-grip, blood splatter etc incorporated into these =)
No I think it would have too, or any other color other than yellow. Ahh well live and learn. I will try and keep that in mind, I'll do the mustard chip trick if I remember next time :)
Haha yay! I'm going to try it with toothpaste on this prop lightsaber tomorrow maybe, if I get to painting it. Still got some prep work to do, off to Bunnings to buy supplies! =)
What is the blue stuff you used on the handle and to hold the spanner on? Your paint job on it made it look EXACTLY like leather! I am awed!!!
Sorry, did I not say what it was? It was just a strip of thin craft foam glued on :) Hope that helps.
2:00 I audibly yelped
Hahaha funny.
I love your paint jobs (yes, even this one)
Hehe well thank you. This one I'm still not sure about... well the yellow, everything else is okay.
Impresive work!
Cheers Damian!
I like the brighter with the light
Yeah I've moved that light so it should be better in future.
Awesome!!!
Angela can you do the nerf double strike?
Would love to see it
Never mind I looked back and you did that one at least twice
Very cool
Do you put a clear coat over your work or do you just leave it as is?
If it's for display usually not, if it's going to be handled, then yes.
Liked! Nice work.
Cheers Tiger!
First coat is black primer or regular black spray? Thank you.
OMG YOU ARE AMAZING
haha well... so are you for taking the time to say such a nice thing!
Hello, you have painted the black background with a brush or spray
Oh lordy this one as long ago and I'm sorry for the slow reply.... I gave every Nerf mod a black flat undercoat with a spray. AFTER sanding it all down. Hope that helps.
I love your voice and your videos
Which is funny, because I hate my voice, but thank you.
It's not boring t to me
It gives me ideas
Yay! Well that is all I can hope for really. Thank you.
Yeah you did say if you did i it over you wouldn't do yellow
Yeah.. I didn't like the yellow either. Though I do think a different flat yellow might have lent it more to the power tool aesthetic it stated out as, but them you tend to lose a lot of the detail.
I do wish you hadn't gone with the yellow but to each his or her own
You didn't watch to the end did you lol. Try checking from around the 30 minute mark Michael ;)
Ooops
Sorry
Amazing!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
I like it brighter the light i mean
Thanks for the feedback Michael!
Amaze balls
Thanks mate.
I reckon a good five minute epoxy glue would have helped you stick the tools to the blaster, but I do like the foam spanner you made. For future reference a good site to help when gluing dissimilar materials together is www.thistothat.com/ I might have gone for a bit more rust and some mustard/toothpaste wear maybe even some rock salt to give some texture but everyone's taste is different and as ever it looks great, keep up the good work :-)
Yeah it could definitely have done with some wear, the mustard trick wouldn't work on this because I was dry-brushing, but next time I'm spraying plating I'll do some just to show how I do it. Thanks for the website tip! It wouldn't have helped in that situation as I tried everything I had and just needed to crack on with it, but it will be awesome for future projects :) Cheers!
increible:)
Just a thought you can buy toy tools on Amazon
Yeah but our Amazon sucks Michael and shipping from the US is nutso.
Niguem vai me entender
