I know this video is several years old, but I've watched it since it was posted at least 5 or 6 times! I just keep coming back to it. It's one of the first videos that really inspired me and got me into making my own props (not just Nerf repaints). :) Always enjoy seeing toy blasters turned into awesome space weapons, especially since it's what helped me get started. Got anymore more in the pipe line? :)
I had the Nerf raider when I was younger. I painted it to look like a stormtrooper gun and now my youngest brother has it. I love customizing toys and props, so all my little brothers are spoiled with insanely cool toys
Hey Bill, I met you at DragonCon last year and subbed as soon as I found out you had a channel. I was in the Skyrim group. Looking forward to seeing you this year at DC.
Holly crap! 0:24 I repainted that exact same dollar store toy gun with the exact same color scheme years ago... and this the first time I've seen this video. This is kinda spooky in a way!
For our trip to Secret Cinema: The Empire Strikes back, we repainted a couple of nerf guns in a day, and managed to keep the in-built lights working after reassembling - not sure if I was more proud of that or the paint job ;)
I'm going to turn one of these into a thorn functional replica to match the hunter cosplay I'm making for comic con in march! It's going to be my first cosplay and so far I'm enjoying making it, with a bunch of tricks from this channel!
I like the water reducible oil idea but have you ever considered water based stain. I have done some large set dressing and I keep black, dark brown, and some untainted stain around for antiquing it dries very fast and is super cheap. They also can be tinted with universal colorants .
I've had a blast buying old Nerf guns at Goodwill for $0.99 and repainting them. When you say it takes forever for the oil-based paints to dry, how long was that? I'm sure our climates are different (Wisconsin), so a ballpark number is good. I just don't want to clear coat too early.
Bill Doran I am currently working on painting a Nerf Vortex Proton and have it all painted up in a clean form. I want to do some rusting to it though. Could you do a video on how you would recommend doing rust/paint fading?
I do pretty much the same stuff with when I do my own prop work. However, I do like to keep the blaster functional for added measures. As I like to say, what's the point of it if you can't have fun with it?
iCANhazRECON You can have fun with it as a display piece, or use it for cosplay! Conventions have a strict "no projectiles" rule and usually have you prove the gun can no longer be fired. But you can still pose and look badass with the gun!
I have a question: if I want to do something like this with a watergun and still use the watergun, can I just spray it with a sealer at the end? (Also this is awesome btw)
I just tried repainting my first Nerf blaster. I prepped the plastic, primed, painted, and weathered. When I applied the clear coat, my base coat started to peel up. What paint product do you use for your clear coat?
You just have to leave the mechanism alone! I would just mask and paint like normal but make sure you're not painting moving parts such that they'll stick. I believe we keep this one functional: ua-cam.com/video/TP43NtAjOVY/v-deo.html (if not you at least get to enjoy me shooting Ted :P)
You forgot to weather the leather straps on the grip, they would be much more battered and dirty around the front and back where they were gripped. Btw, what do you do with these when you're done? Are they just for personal pleasure or do you sell them on? Because if you are selling them do you manage to get enough to warrant the cost of the item plus the man hours put in to creating them?
I understand why you usually just make them for yourself! I keep making things for sale then keeping them for myself; It's hard to part with labours of love! I'm currently working on a bunch of post apocalyptic gas masks to sell next year at comicon, but I already want to keep them. Must... resist... Nice to see that you make enough when you do sell them to warrant the time.
how would you go about doing the "blueing" of the barrel without an airbrush? Might be a dumb question but I really want to achieve that affect, just not sure the best way to do it without an airbrush.
I know I already commented but you must play destiny a lot because you are always wearing a destiny shirt. New monarchy for the win!! Lol. Keep up the cool vids
Working on this exact gun, though (as Nerf Modding goes) it's still a very different build. A bit of pop with some lights and such. Nice Vid. Gives me something to aspire to on this gun. ^_^
Great choice for a demo since that gun is one of my favs too. While mine isn't as fancy as yours, I suppose I could post pics of it on your FB page. I'm always interested in getting feedback from a pro.
😂 - how annoying! … I’ve just bought a bunch of broken Nerf guns to break down into parts for starship models … but now I want to make em all into cool blasters! 😂😂 oh well … back to eBay we go …
They still maket Krylon Fusion, you can get it at autoparts stores like Autozone or O'Riely Autoparts, I've even found it at Home Depot. Vinyl Dye is another good one for painting plastics, that can also be found at autoparts stores.
5:04 I don't have a twitter account but I have a nerf mod on my channel (I was only 12 when I made the mod (I'm currently 13) so it isn't the best nerf mod because it was my first ever nerf mod. I am currently working on multiple nerf mods though.
Im working on a cyberpunk stub rifle thing and I just got a bunch of my old nerf guns and I’m gonna spruce em up to make it look all sci fi police issued p.s. I thought your gun looked great
hey Bill I want to paint an airsoft a real almost old gun color, I'm making a han solo blaster and not finding anyway to get that real black/brown colors! could you help me out I haven't found anything on the rpf so far!
garett reyes no he took out all the internals and replaced them with a steel rod to make the gun fell a bit more like a real gun rather than a nerf gun.
Alper Liman I'll try and send you some pics on google+ or email in about a week or two if you could pm me. It's done and it looks amazing but it's currently in a box because i'm moving back to the U.S.
No, the dude totally ruined the hammershot. I mean, hit literally removed the Hammer. I mean, what? Who takes a fully functioning nerf gun and destroys it?
Punished Props Ok thank you,I'm working on guns for the punisher cause in almost all the comics he has guns that look like there from doom and also a soilder 76 pulse rifle
Visit our website to check out the all of the tools and links mentioned here! punishedprops.com/2015/05/29/nerf-hammershot-mod/
Very cool! Congrats for the work and thanks for sharing!
Where is the link to the @3:43 video?
@@Phoinx ua-cam.com/video/5obpwqF9hKg/v-deo.html
RIP fully functional hammershot...
Agreed

awesome video! makes me want to get back into moding nerf guns.
I
Coleman Sandefur thanks! I have some good ones coming up!
William Jakespeare WILL :DD
Well technically this is not a mod, it's a prop, but I don't wanna be that guy, and I think making props is cool, so I support your goal.
Can you keep going with the starlord gun like adding lights and even sounds
its like the brute spiker, but instead of firing small spikes it fires a chunk of shrapnel xD
nice build man it looks dope
I had the Nerf raider when I was younger. I painted it to look like a stormtrooper gun and now my youngest brother has it. I love customizing toys and props, so all my little brothers are spoiled with insanely cool toys
Isn't it such a blast?
At first I thought it would be stupid because you were destroying the nerf gun but then you added a bunch of stuff and made it awesome!!!
Hi Bill - a few questions. What type of steel rods did you use for weighting the gun? Also what was the pvc pipe diameter you used for the barrel?
For our trip to Secret Cinema: The Empire Strikes back, we repainted a couple of nerf guns in a day, and managed to keep the in-built lights working after reassembling - not sure if I was more proud of that or the paint job ;)
I'm going to turn one of these into a thorn functional replica to match the hunter cosplay I'm making for comic con in march! It's going to be my first cosplay and so far I'm enjoying making it, with a bunch of tricks from this channel!
Punished Props it's not actually my idea, it's Lorddraconical's he is a nerf UA-camr and has quite a few props! Worth your while checking him out
I like the water reducible oil idea but have you ever considered water based stain. I have done some large set dressing and I keep black, dark brown, and some untainted stain around for antiquing it dries very fast and is super cheap. They also can be tinted with universal colorants .

Punished Props Thanks. Good to know. I'll do my wash with the oils and give it a good month to dry to be safe. Keep up the great work!
Bill Doran I am currently working on painting a Nerf Vortex Proton and have it all painted up in a clean form. I want to do some rusting to it though. Could you do a video on how you would recommend doing rust/paint fading?
Check out his pip boy vid.
They make a gel that makes the oil paint dry faster, also thins it. No idea what it is called, but have used it before
Not a bad job , do you brush weather/detail at all ? I actually find that method works well for what I do. That said; like what you did .
Yes, that's always my favorite step! I believe we show some of that process in this video
Very nice mod. Would Have been even more amazing if it actually blasted.
Another great video. I like the real leather straps on the handles. Nice touch
"Adding a really cool grip to the piece..."
Anyone noticed how he got cut out of breath for a moment there
Heck yeah, Bill. Future War Cult. Represent.
Nice future war cult. FWC FTW!
can I fill the screw holes AFTER painting it with primer? I spray painted it before I realized I should fill the holes.
Sure. You can spray it with primer again once you've sanded down the screw hole filler.
thanks for the reply! Would it make the filler not "adhere" though? Since it's not directly to the plastic? That's I guess what I was questioning.
I do pretty much the same stuff with when I do my own prop work. However, I do like to keep the blaster functional for added measures. As I like to say, what's the point of it if you can't have fun with it?

I hope you work for really major film :)
All the best brah
do you take those fluted knobs off of dead radios and amplifiers or do you buy them?
***** of course, brilliant!
Just wanted to say i'm a big fan.
+CrASH Cool, thanks for watching!
looks like something born in the world of Borderlands. Superfun!
I have a question: if I want to do something like this with a watergun and still use the watergun, can I just spray it with a sealer at the end? (Also this is awesome btw)
AND you continue to be an absolute legend. Thank you so much. Keep up the awesome work!
favorite hammershot, really something else!
I just tried repainting my first Nerf blaster. I prepped the plastic, primed, painted, and weathered. When I applied the clear coat, my base coat started to peel up. What paint product do you use for your clear coat?
We usually use a matte varnish from the craft store, not any particular brand.
Steady Crafsman has a great video on how to paint difficult plastics, TLDR is use heat to make paint stick instead of scratch.
Your thumbnail looks like a blaster out of the star wars
You make it sound way easier than it looks
In the Nerf hobby we call Nerf "guns" blasters. This does look really cool by the way!!!
Awesome! Gotta learn the lingo. =)
Yeah, I can not wait to see what you do next! If you have any questions... www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/new/
The gun mentioned at the start I actually had one as a kid.
Hey Bill, how do you paint a nerf gun but keep its functionality so you can use it without ruining the paint (the ones with priming mechanisms)

Are they just for personal pleasure or do you sell them on? Because if you are selling them do you manage to get enough to warrant the cost of the item plus the man hours put in to creating them?
I usually just make props for myself. This one ended up going on eBay and selling for a couple hundred bucks.
I understand why you usually just make them for yourself! I keep making things for sale then keeping them for myself; It's hard to part with labours of love! Cosplay Chris did something like that in this video: ua-cam.com/video/WMQCbfdXoFw/v-deo.html
Hey bill! I bought some krypton black primer. Is there specifically a flat black primer that you used?
Reminds me of the Six Dreg Pride from HoW! Excellent job.
What kind of logo is that left to his head? The white yellow one...
I know I already commented but you must play destiny a lot because you are always wearing a destiny shirt. New monarchy for the win!! Lol. Keep up the cool vids

Nice Vid. Gives me something to aspire to on this gun. ^_^
Looks like something you'd see in Destiny
He’s wearing a Future War Cult shirt he probably based it off of some gun from destiny
Great choice for a demo since that gun is one of my favs too. While mine isn't as fancy as yours, I suppose I could post pics of it on your FB page. I'm always interested in getting feedback from a pro.
This Hammershot looks so good bad thing it does'nt shoot darts anymore
Really awesome! I love the finish! :)
:D
I want your dang shirt. Future war cult. Lol
😂 - how annoying! … I’ve just bought a bunch of broken Nerf guns to break down into parts for starship models … but now I want to make em all into cool blasters! 😂😂 oh well … back to eBay we go …
They seem to have stopped making Krylon Fusion, is there another spray paint you would recommend?
They still maket Krylon Fusion, you can get it at autoparts stores like Autozone or O'Riely Autoparts, I've even found it at Home Depot. Vinyl Dye is another good one for painting plastics, that can also be found at autoparts stores.
I actually had that laser gun you showed at the very beginning. 0_0
spooky
Same! Yes I'm responding 3 years later at 1am
Sweet it would also be cool if you could mod and/or redo the nerf strong-arm
Is that mario music in the background in the beginning??
Yes
5:04 I don't have a twitter account but I have a nerf mod on my channel (I was only 12 when I made the mod (I'm currently 13) so it isn't the best nerf mod because it was my first ever nerf mod. I am currently working on multiple nerf mods though.

That's a great idea. Have fun!
Oh god I just noticed your shirt haha I love it
Best nerf gun I have ever seen 😲
hey Bill I want to paint an airsoft a real almost old gun color, I'm making a han solo blaster and not finding anyway to get that real black/brown colors! could you help me out I haven't found anything on the rpf so far!
The gun looks great but, is it still functional?
garett reyes no he took out all the internals and replaced them with a steel rod to make the gun fell a bit more like a real gun rather than a nerf gun.
New monarchy is gonna get you for that shirt.
Was that gun on your right from the anime psychopass?
+Sideswipe516 yeah, behind the stand
+Sideswipe516 looks just like it
i'm so going to try something simular to this. but i want it to work as it is supposed to work. when i'm done...i'm going to send you some pics of it.
Good luck. If your not done yet.
In coops words, "cosplay or something gay like that"
I'm currently working on a cool nerf strongarm build! Will send you pics when it's done! :)
I wanna see itn!!
Alper Liman I'll try and send you some pics on google+ or email in about a week or two if you could pm me. It's done and it looks amazing but it's currently in a box because i'm moving back to the U.S.
+Alexandru Simion ohhh ok
Does the gun actually work after the repaint
you think about that
No, the dude totally ruined the hammershot. I mean, hit literally removed the Hammer. I mean, what? Who takes a fully functioning nerf gun and destroys it?
+kitchenmaiden81 people who don't care about nerf guns.
kitchenmaiden81 I understand that he thought of it more as a piece of art rather than a toy, but nerf is fucking expensive!
Will you be using the internals?
This is so great! i love it
Looks really cool, but would be even cooler if it still was usable
I usually don't bother keeping NERFs functional since you can't bring them to a convention
But how long did the acrylic paint take to dry
I mean crylon
It'll tell you on the can.
Punished Props Ok thank you,I'm working on guns for the punisher cause in almost all the comics he has guns that look like there from doom and also a soilder 76 pulse rifle
I made a machine gun using a Vulcan belt, 25 dart drum, nerf modulus, ingenuity, and tools.
Is that a PDW from CoD in the background
nice barrel heat bloom !
Thanks!
Nice future war cult shirt
Punished Props YEE THE FWC IS THE BEST
Rueben Ninja I'm always being killed by the waltz and i'm like "Dammit! why did I have to side with New Monarchy!!"
bobbafett704 switch your alliance then -_-
Great video!
I think it's funny that 38 people disliked this video, it's epic.
Barnacules Nerdgasm Now 52! It's insane!
I think that's because it's not functional and the title says mod when it does not even work so there just pissed that they got click baited!
Excellent job
Does anyone know where he got those cool spare parts?
+Sandaled Lamb I molded and cast them from pieces of tools and assorted fittings in my shop.
Punished Props thanks! Does that mean I could get air-dry clay and mold them into cool little shapes like you did?
I have that gun and I did a dieselpunk Version thank you for the inspiration
You make me want my own workshop! For cosplaying!!
Love the future war cult shirt
what kind of sprey paint did you use?
Nice work!
Future War Cult lets gooo
This didnt age well
First weathering I've seen not go over the top.
Nerf meet Destiny, Destiny, this is Nerf.
This weapon should be in Destiny
can you do a kylo ren lightsaber please, awesome vid btw :)
I thought he was going to make that into a Hand Cannon from the FWC in Destiny.
Oh that would have been awesome
Lord Skorpion That, or Dreg's Promise
yeah, that would be badass
+One Winged Angel More like Six dreg Pride
Hi can you do a video on the starlord quadblaster from nerf???
Awesome job, just wish it still functioned.
you should take a nerf gun and turn it into a destiny hand cannon and do a tutorial
Is it a coincidence that i just started moding my hammer shot today
This gun looks like it belongs in density
This gun looks good, but it won't work in real life, soo... I'm really not sure if I like it or not.
Honza Balák why would it need to work? =D
Great work
This really looks like it belongs to the Cygnar of the Warmachine & Hordes world.
Can u make the brute shot from halo 3
i was going to actually make this gun look like a mandalorian blaster pistol of sorts or something a bounty hunter would use
wow thanks, it just seems like the right gun to work off of
omg I had that gun when I was younger
w/o are you like 11?
Is it functional?
Does it work?
