  • The folks at Island Fishing Tackle put Shimano PowerPro Maxcuatro on a TranX 500H and Talica 12II. The Maxcuatro braided line is unbelievably thin, which means farther casts and less drag through the water with using live bait.

    Get the line level to the reel, the levelwind will work more efficiently...when it enters the levelwind at an upward angle, it only utilizes the top third of the levelwind eye and does not allow the the line to move easily to the extreme left or right of the spool...that is one nice winder though...wow!

    5lbs is a bit light to me on pressure. You're gonna use more drag than that which can cause digging. I prefer to go more like 10-12 pounds in general and on heavy setups ill go 18-20lbs even.

    That’s a whole lot of expensive line on that reel! On my Avet MXL (similar to the 12ii) I’ll put 500 yards of 40# braid and still have 125 yards of 40# mono topshot. I’m surprised the customer wanted straight braid most west coast guys like the long topshot and would go maybe 400 yards of 65# hollow core to a spliced topshot. If I wanted the braid on top I’d have gone with something like 200 yards of Dacron or mono then get 300+ yards of braid on top! Even long range 700 yards is a heck of a lot of braid!

    Which line was Sam referring to when he said there was another line besides MaxCuatro that was even one step thinner than it?

      Gerald Velasco Not if you service your reels regularly.

    great vid guys, i just got in to fishing so quick question... so maybe a stupid question...
    but when i cast and i reel back in isn't my line getting a little slack? its not as tight as when i put it on the first time right?
    i know the the first half that i put on is important to be tight but after that its always a little slack right?

      marc lagarde we find its best to keep the braided line as tight as possible at all times. They say your next cast is only as good as how the line went on during the previous retrieve.

    The salt water will find its way underneath the tape in time. New spool will be needed.

      joe cruz not true, been using electric tape for years and not once did my spools get corroded due to it. Every angler changes line mostly every 2-3 months

    what about when you are using 12lb line do you need to put that on the same way with like 5lbs of pressure and does that help with backlash?

    • @ShimanoFishingFans
      @ShimanoFishingFans  7 років тому +1

      In general, the more pressure the better from what we hear.

    How may yards of 80 pp maxcuatro will the tranx hold?

    • @ShimanoFishingFans
      @ShimanoFishingFans  7 років тому +1

      A good rule-of-thumb with Maxcuatro is to use the capacity number for one line class smaller, e.g., if a reel says 500 yds of 20#, then it will should 500 yds of #30 lb. To answer your question, we get just about 300/yds of Maxcuatro on a Tranx 500.

    Mono backing is key for braid on a spool not tape. That's going to eventually ruin that spool I won't let anyone touch my reels with tape.

    • @eddo5617
      @eddo5617 5 років тому +1

      Honestly I do not see any wrong with using tape! How does it ruin your reel. I put tape in all my Stella reels and not one goes bad

    • @jeffsmith8958
      @jeffsmith8958 5 років тому +1

      If with you I use electrical tape on everything I go braid on. Why would I go mono to braid then back to mono for a topshot? The braid doesn’t absorb water I’m not concerned about the spool itself I clean my reels and change line out often enough that I’m not concerned with corrosion. I’m not a fan of Shimano in general, I question the materials they use (brass gears, not highest quality aliminum) but the tape to me is better than another line to line connection by far!
