    The most ridiculously insane key fob design ever - Rube Goldberg would be proud. May the engineer that designed this contraption end up in a labyrinth inside of a labyrinth inside another labyrinth. Thanks for the excellent video unraveling the mystery!

      It's like it was designed that way so that you would be guaranteed to break one of the plastic bits that need to be pried apart and then have to shell out 250 bucks to replace it.

    Also worth noting that if you hit the "lock" button too many times out of the habit of locking your doors manually, you can accidentally put your key FOB in "sleep" mode. This will render functions like the door handle touch sensor for unlocking the car and even the car detecting the FOB to start the car useless. If that happens, you can deactivate sleep mode by clicking on the "lock" button four times within three seconds. At that point, a red light should appear above the lock button. Then hold down the button for one full second until the light goes out. That should reset the mode.

    Thanks for this, but what kind of psychopath designs a thing like that. You should be able to pull that little lever and slide the whole mechanism open with the spare key and battery exposed. No tools necessary. The stupidity of designers never ceases to amaze. I guess they never stop looking for ways to make stuff non user serviceable so they can charge you $100 to do it for you.

    Thanks for this tutorial Key Fob Rob! I cruised along until I got to the back side of the fob. It was really stiff from not being opened since I got the car in 2019 (and probably the original battery). It took a little finesse, (and a few tense moments of thinking ‘am I going to break this?’ but I knew it was possible to open from watching this video. It was the best feeling ever when it finally popped off! So happy I replaced the battery myself and didn’t have to take it to the dealership. 😁👍🏻

    This video truly came in clutch.
    I work night shifts. Got home from work and put my uniform in the wash, not knowing that I had accidentally put the keys in with it.
    Keys short circuited or something and ended up continuously activating the panic button at 4:30 AM.
    Keep in mind I live in a suburban neighbourhood.
    Had to take the battery out but didn’t know how.
    I hope you know, Mr. Key Fob Rob that I can now sleep peacefully knowing that the panic button on my car isn’t continuously going off at an ungodly hour, potentially waking up neighbours. ( lucky for me, the car was in a garage so I’m not sure how loud it must’ve been)

    Thanks so much for this! The last generation of Mazda fobs was not nearly as complicated to change, so I felt like I was missing something really obvious with this generation. Looks like they just made it unnecessarily difficult lol. Also, it seems like the battery on this one ran out really quickly - it only lasted 4 months, but I have keyless entry turned on which supposedly drains the battery more quickly. I'll try turning it off and see if there's a noticeable improvement.

    Thanks for the informative video. Same key for European Mazda 3?
    (it might sound like stupid question, but trims, engines, etc, etc are so different over different continents, it wouldn't surprise me if the keys were different too)

    • @KeyFobRob

      It should be nearly identical to the EU version. The only main different is the MHz signal that the fob produces.

    I found my Mazda key fob eventually in Washing Machine, I was like there is no way it works again, I opened and dried it with hair dryer , The designer was smart and they made it almost water proof, the sealing around the battery avoid water gets in. Once I made sure that it is completely dried , I hit the unlock button and worked , and I said to my self, I saved 500$ :D

    • @Sashalexandros
      @Sashalexandros 3 роки тому

      I don't think that it's complicated by design, but rather to be cheap in production - just a plastic mold. There is no other way to make these plastic things stick together if not to make one hold into another. And also, it's somewhat more rigid than chinese quartz watches that have a simple plastic battery door hinge which breaks after 2 replacements.
