  • I'm mean to myself more than I'd like, and maybe you are too. It's okay to screw up, though. It makes us all better people.
These are my thoughts on failure, and why it is okay.
Also, I swear I dust all my kits before shooting. 4K really captures everything oh geez...

If it wasn't for your videos i would have never realized my potential. you gave me the courage to attempt painting an intimidating and expensive kit. you showed me how to pose and take proper pictures. you taught me to be proud no matter how it turns out. And you are the reason why my work now starts to look like the builds i always looked at in awe.
now i have a centerpiece with my beautiful Wing Zero Ver.Ka that always reminds me of what im capable of if i only try.
Thank you for all you have done

I like to imagine getting the model number wrong just as the screen fades to "the subtle art of screwing up" was intentional.
In all seriousness tho, very good video, and a very important message that a lot of us could stand to hear more often.

When I come across people who want to try gumpod for the first time, I always tell him if you're going to start out start out slow take your time do not rush or force your way through a kit, and most importantly have fun building your kit.

One thing I've learnt over the two years I've been in this hobby and picking up airbrushing is that it's ok to take time to process your mistake and your feelings on it. It's natural for some to feel angry, to feel disappointed and that's nothing to be ashamed of. The most important thing is to figure out what you did wrong and keep trying to fix it or do better next time. Screwing up doesn't mean you're bad, it just means you need to take more time improving.
I'm two years into this hobby and the latest custom I did I had to re-paint parts over 10 times, broke the v-fin twice but I kept going. And eventually, it came out great. Issues and imperfections will always crop up, but don't let them discourage you, don't let fear hold you back.

My favorite gunpla channel! I love how you tie all sorts of topics together. Like snake and mongoose from racing. I found a good way to over come my own fear is enter into competitions. Iv never come close to winning. But I use ever competition biuld to learn a new skill. The competition is just a deadline to keep me on track.. I have learned how to Airbrush, kit bash and liquid plastic, home made decals, diy resin parts, photography. Now I can make just about what ever I want.
    Never stop building!

incredibly worthwhile vid. So many people don't hear from others that they're feeling the same/similar and we all experience this that it stops so many.
Thank you for being another voice for people learning.

I’m taking down notes, I’ve just discovered your channel, im about step into the gunpla hobbie to level up my skills in the LEGO hobbie and I like what you have said in these videos about failures and imperfections and the growth and enjoyment you should focus on when taking these ventures. Thank you.

I´ve built aproximately 50 scale models, some are cars, some are mechas, some are spaceships and I´ve created a few sctratch builds too, I´ve had a lot of screw ups on some of those models but if I stop building cause one or more didn´t ended up perfect... how do I´m going to learn? So keep up the hard work! Don´t quit cause one or two ended up bad, I actually started a channel too, about a year ago and still hasn´t picked up, but I´m doing it to share what I´ve learned and I hope some of what´s there helps at least one or two people to start on scratchbuilding and customs, LOVE THE CHANNEL!!!

I look back at the first kit I painted, which was the Mg Zeta Plus C1 at the time. I had never hand-painted or even used spray cans. I chose to paint it with spray cans with parts on the runners because I thought that's what everyone does right. Then came time to cut it off the runner. Oh God, the nub and paint marks. It looks good, but if I was to put it up against the Mg Epyon I airbrushed last year for a build contest, I would throw the zeta plus out, but I still have it. I'll have to get both next to each other and take photos and post on discord.

hardest part of painting for me is getting over the "I don't want to ruin it and it looks okay as is " feeling once i stop worrying about that I always end up with a kit I'm proud of also I think the kit looks great it can take some people years to get that good

Recently I got my hands on a PGU Tx-78-2. It was an amazing build but I made tons of mistake along the way. From snapping the shin part clean in half while trying to open the hatch, to dropping the head and snapping the V-fin. Hell I even ended up flooding uncoated parts with enamel paint and breaking them. But through all of it I've learned a ton, And I'm currently in the process of fixing multiple pieces. It's been a wild and fun ride, and I hope I can make this guy look as perfect as I can.

I have a bit of a story regarding this. I started back into Gunpla because I wanted to get back into a hobby my ex... well, she basically took it away from me. "It's so immature". It's amazing what you'll give up when you're 5yrs deep into a relationship. When you're bedridden there's really not much else you can do, so I did and still do it often. I had a similar experience... I tried to start back into this with a Kshatriya. Did NOT go well.
Even still, I kept at it and Gunpla has given me a new sense of accomplishment I hadn't had in years. I then decided to start streaming my hobby, as it wasn't something I saw a lot of vTubers doing; aaaaaand because I'm broke and would prefer to keep going, so maybe people would help me out. I'm disabled, waiting for SSD still, and without my viewers sending stuff like they have been I would NOT be able to do this anymore.
Granted, I don't have great tools. Not even proper paints. My matte clearcoat is kinda' crap. I'm okay with that, though. I let my mistakes happen, live, and don't let myself panic. I'd LIKE to get people to consider getting into the hobby themselves. "If a guy with MS and other health issues can do it even with shaky hands and all, maybe I can too". So I hope my streams get others to "maintain their chill". Get them to just DO IT.
I rebuilt that HG Kshatriya recently. The new one is my favorite, even has the luminous decals... I'm proud of myself. I wouldn't experience that if I didn't 'just do the thing'. If I hadn't screwed up that first one, I mean.

I remember back when I had only 4 HGs to my name and I was terrified of even panel-lining the damn things.I was so worried I'd mess it up and it'd look bad, but I just had to learn from those missteps moving forward. Now, coming up on a year later (2 days from today and it'll have been a year since I bought my first kit) and I'm looking towards iterating on my own bad gunpla a bit further. I have a friend who's into 40k and I'm asking for tips on how to weather my Ground Gundam (the 3rd kit I ever built) to make it more personalized. Will it be perfect? Absolutely not, but will it be *my* Ground Gundam? You bet your ass it will.
Bit of a random comment, but the message resonated. Mistakes and failures are the best teachers.

For 15 years I’ve been a musician. For the past 4 years I’d been working on a new music project, learning electronic production. I slaved daily, compared myself to others, refused to release music that wasn’t “good enough” until one day I stopped producing music all together. That was about four months ago, when I found gunpla and essentially traded hobbies. I miss music producing. I often think about the music on my laptop, half written, that I once felt so driven to work on.
Crazy. I needed this video. Thank you.

I have that kit. Purchased it almost 2 years ago, but haven't got around to building and painting it yet. I also have that Neo airbrush, and it's not bad, but not as good as my GSI creos PS-270 , nor my Iwata Revolution CN. Don't cheap out on a compressor though.

I love it! The MK II is one of my favorites and I'd love to build a perfect grade of that mobile suit. I too proudly display my first foray into airbrushing on my Gunpla shelf, even though it was a total failure. It's an entry grade RX78 painted in the black and white style of the RX-78-1. The paint is thick, his joints seize up, his one leg is broken... I don't think the primer set up right... And... He is somehow a source of both pride and disappointment. Haha

I'd love to get into air brushing but it's not just the cost of the thing, it's making a space, maintaining, trial and error blah blah. I want to one day and take it to new heights. But until that day, I'll just happily build and ease my mind of the worlds stresses :) Keep on being awesome to all you builders out there!

Currently i'm making a custom that i am really proud of,sadly when i got around to first to airbrush i royally royally screwed up and i got angry and fed up and dissapointed at myself for not doing the best especially knowing i was always was crap at painting but my friend keeps encouraging me to try again but i'm still well too afraid for it to screw up again

    • @ORLY911
      @ORLY911 2 роки тому +2

Think of it this way, you screwing up there, you learned from that. What you did wrong, etc. thats how everyone gets better. Your mistakes don't define you, you cant be afraid to mess up, if you do you try again. Like learning to ride a bike.
A good artist sketches over and over again, there is no "the picture" merely a series of pictures. Setting yourself up to making a masterwork is setting up for disappointment. Just keep doing it. You'll get it.
