Those teenaged skaters were more insightful and level-headed than most adults
nah they're just saying buzzwords
@@ippos_khloros6163 not my problem you cant recognize it
They? We!
Dude, facts.
"By brother was arrested...it was really abusive at home...I like skating to take my mind off things like home problems and school problems"
There you have it - The essence of Nu-metal and also the reason the genre is still alive.
Hang in there, li'l dudes! 👍
This moment knocked the wind out of me and made it clear this music hits kids the same way it did over 20 years ago. Magic.
At that moment, I realised it was all really emo, teens whining about how tough their lifes are, haha, goodluck at surviving adulthood. Using music as a tool coping with emotions and 'life', isn't just Nu-Metal, it's universal to all music.
Except experimental jazz, that's just jibberish in musical theory. Doesn't make any sense.
We all got problems. Some worse than others, but we all need an outlet. Nu metal became that outlet.
@@janzelfHe wasn’t whining? he just expressed that the music helps him cope with problems and he’s drawn to it. So what? doesn’t make it any less valid
@@janzelf
Bitterly rambling in a UA-cam comment section about your resentment towards other people is not managing your emotions in a healthy way. The most judgemental people are those who are not happy with themselves.

It is quite good. What it reminds me of is those shows back in the day where somehow PBS or whatever drudged up ancient film clips of drugged hippies at Monterey. This video will be source material for future culture historians. I like this a lot.

The biggest mistake of Sick New World was putting everything in one day and in an extremely hot place. But still it was probably a sight to behold, so many bands from so many different eras. From 80s goth to 90s industrial to nu metal to autistic virgin (best genre) this had it all. I will never be able to see some of these bands live seperately let alone all at once. Shame about Body Count, the organisers really did T dirty.
Iv been waiting for thissss
Not that hot
I live here 93 for Vegas is not a hot day
Why tf do they even got panchiko in this hoe?
I still can't believe I was there fr
I like how the oldhead guy was just stoked about the music and didn't bring up the younger fans at all, meanwhile all the zoomers are all like "fuck oldheads" like the hate is just so made up and silly 🤣
The new metal bands are old heads. Ironic much
On behalf of zoomers: we're fucking stupid
It's not made up at all. Zoomers get shit on constantly, it makes perfect sense for them to think that the oldheads wouldn't like them. Everybody thinks their generation is special lmao
Fr those kids are dumbasses
Dude literally asked what they thought of old heads
Not gatekeeping music. Mad respect to the skating kids in the beginning. Even though they don't like something (country/rap), they understand those that listen/play have different tastes and do what makes them happy/encourage it.
You are doing god's work!
congrats on the baby, Finn!
@@StonedJesus lol
And you're not. Always hating with your trashy opinions
Lmao of course you show up
Yeah your opinions are valid and well rounded pieces of info for those who didn’t live through most of the genre’s you talk about but you’ve got to dial it back with some of those heavy claims like (I’m not a nu metal fan) nu metal is the furthest rock or heavier music can go? That’s not a legit claim that’s just taking the psssssssss
The interview with the Vegas teens really resonated with me because the problems they talked about, were the same exact the original nu metal fans were going thru, and before that the grunge fans, and before that the heavy metal fans. Some things just don't change
I’m the dude in the white bucket hat that went to your first fan meetup! It was awesome meeting you guys! I spent most of Sick New World seeing the smaller bands like Panchiko, Machine Girl, and Loathe. I swear my sunburn and the hangover lasted for like 2 days.
how were panchiko? thinking about seeing them on tour but Idk how good they are live
@@mcride1242 Worth it. They put on a great show in SNW! Especially enjoyed when they played Kicking Cars!
Kinda pissed i missed machine girl
@@meltedWax169samee
Loathe are mad underrated!!!! Saw them recently and they were fuckin awesome!!!
I was 14 years old in 1998, and I was obsessed with nu-metal. I actually feel really fortunate to have lived through it. In those days the shows were still pretty small. You could see a show for $20, get your ticket signed afterward, the bands were always super down to earth and wanted to meet everyone. No phones in their faces, no social media. Just a bunch of sweaty kids in oversize band shirts and tripp pants having a great fcking time. I'll be 39 this month, and I still love nu-metal. I still have a metal lunchbox full of signed concert tickets somewhere in storage. That statement alone is the most nu-metal thing ever hahaha. Also no, us "old heads" (whatever the fck that means) generally don't think kids are posers for being into it now. I think most of us are beyond excited to see it come back. If anything I'd thank the younger generations for keeping it alive. Don't ever take any shit from the idiot calling you a poser, because generally the real poser is the person calling everyone else one. Like what you like. Music is forever.
Term old heads was “borrowed” from African American vernacular English
Only real difference between the kids and us “old heads” is the kids think it some super old nostalgic music, and we don’t really think it’s that long ago 😂. Only way I can keep it in perspective is to think of the late 60s early 70s music I like, same time frame as these kids listening to late 90s early 00s nu-metal.
I’m considered a old head at 47 and in 95 I was definitely listening to nu metal. I think it’s cool the young kids are into what we were at their age.
Your 2 years older than me for me it way peke music until the emos fu ked it up
Word for word my thoughts exactly. I had a badass slipknot hoodie signed by Corey Taylor and Joey Jordison. Ex-gf stole it(I'd have killed her if she was a dude). Emo was the end of the era. Seeing guys with eyeliner constantly flipping their hair out of their eyes was the only time the word poser crossed my mind, I hated that look, the music, and just the whole pity me, cut myself, hot topic assembly line look. Nope. Hearing Blind for the first time, I knew I was instantly hooked. Nothing but Jncos n band shirts from 94-01. Couldn't wear Jncos no more cuz they kept getting caught in my heelys tho. Lol. Those were the days man. And the concerts, damn. Drinking with mushroomhead at a bar after their show was awesome. The atmosphere was so welcoming. The music brought ppl together. And Manson's antichrist superstar tour? There's a reason those shows made the papers. Cutting himself on stage was a bit much. Still never saw gwar live. I know it's not nu metal, but it's my white buffalo.
As a Deftones fan of at least 23 years, it’s awesome to see how they resonate with the younger generation. They were mostly misunderstood for most of their career, but now the world is starting to catch up to what they’ve been doing for so long now
I have been into Deftones since they started. 1994 Korn did 12 shows with Deftones and that has stuck with me since then. Slipknot 2002 Valentine’s Day when Iowa was out and met the band after the show. Joey was so awesome and I looked up to him as a drummer who made me better
Idk dude, Deftones were crazy popular where I lived. White Pony was a big deal.
I saw them twice on the Around the Fur tour with Che.
They weren't big like Korn or Limp Bizkit - but they were popular.
Incubus were a big deal too.
I remember the tour they did together.
I agree. I have been a fan of deftones since about 1998 maybe even before but I distinctly remember listening to them in the 8th grade and being obsessed and anyone who loves them with me is welcome.
Getting that interview with Panchiko was insane, I would literally see them in LA the following day
wait a couple days
@@NeoPunkFM this is too insane of a comment to have 1 like so far
I want to give a hug to those skater kids in the beginning 🖤 Bottom line is whether it's a trend everybody jumped or not everybody relates to nu-metal enough for it to come back and also for something to stand the test of time for this long there's got to be something real to latch onto in that music they created, whatever it maybe I'm so glad we can all enjoy and come together for some sick ass music 🤘

This channel is about to explode keep it up
my generation forgets that oldheads are the reason why we can still see these bands today. it took oldheads discovery to propel nu metal into a generation-subverting conciousness
The pizza rolls mountain dew skateboarding away from my abusive home was a memory unlocked moment for me.
I was 12 at its tail end in 2003 so this stuff was my gateway drug to heavy music. I have the shirts the albums and just am pretty stoked it resonates with kids today. Especially the ones who needed it like I did.
This is mostly what I expected when you interview nu metal fans. And I’m so happy it is. It’s like they still have the same mindset as the kids from the 90s
That’s what I was thinking too. The kid that was like “I don’t really like country or rap” is such a 90’s thing to say especially for a white kid. It’s very rare to find a white kid who doesn’t like rap nowadays.
I LOVE NEOPUNK FM

I don’t trust people who still judge nu metal, that’s how I navigate life. Great work, guys!
Nu metal is AWESOME and always will be!
Korn, slipknot, etc are all still kicking it, this music will always exist!
Old head here - fucking brilliant doc. I love seeing the numetal resurgence, you kids took it to a new level and put good old shit back on the map, take it and run with it!
@@swampcrypt Personally I never experienced that but I seen it on the internet a bit, amusing, kids will always be kids, when we was their age we mocked myspace emo kids. I guess sadly, for some people being a part of something will always end up like this.

Glad that younger kids are listening to the music I grew up with. This is awesome!!! I also feel hella old now.
Honestly I'm super happy that so many people are pushing these bands back to mainstream. I may be a little butthurt about tiktok trends and all that, but at the end of the day Im finally starting to feel like this is where I belong. I saw DG live yesterday and it was such a good show. Most of the time I see a bunch of oldheads barely even moving, and only people right in front of the scene are having fun. This time it was different, this time the entire club was moving, everybody was there to have fun and it was beautiful. We need younger people to realise that there's so much more to music than what you can hear in the radio.
I am 37 I remember nu metal well. I remember korn being one of the most popular metal bands in the 90s so from 94 to 2002 korn was massive and to be honest I'm glad they did so well they are really good people apparently and worked hard for it .
Guys, your journalism level is really high, this is some serious material you got here. Phenomenal montage, sick interviews, fire footages. Keep it up, you are nailing it!
Damn that Vegas D&B intro cut at 2:06 with the blue filter sent my ass straight back to my childhood. I remember travels shows and the History Channel would do random cuts like this and I was always exited for them.
so dope!! glad ya'll made it out alive! it still blows my mind how much gen z loves nu metal, basically all the bands i used to slang burned CD's of in middle school for weed money are huge again + im so here for it.
Nu metal is awesome, regardless of how any else feels about it, listening to it from someone who technically grew up with the genre but was too you young to really take it in, and looking back on it, the culture is awesome and the music was sick
I can't explain how excited I am to see the younger gen dig NuMetal. Back in '95 when it actually was new, it 100% was for the high school "freaks" and was not really considered cool by any stretch. We got a lot of hate dished out for even liking these bands even though we also enjoyed jungle/DNB and rap too. Flash forward 20 years and these artists are all being name dropped in interviews and a bloody festival celebrating it all?! Craziness man. One of my high-school highlites was meeting KoRn downtown Toronto and getting their autographs before their show in 1996. Helmet and Limp Bizkit even opened up that show and Fred got booed haha.
I first learned about these guys in circus magazines
Yeah I graduated last yr and it definitely was not that popular in my high school
@@ashtongarcia6894 who cares. Now you can find people you have things in common with
I like how the kid who was wearing the half cabs was like “yeah man, the 80s” and yet all his clothes were def from the 90s era of skating , big baggy jorts, half cabs which came out in the early 90s. I’m seeing that a lot lately with younger kids, like teen and pre teens, they have absolutely no idea about anything, but because they were born directly in to the internet and get lots of random bits of info but they apparently never read seriously or do research because they constantly fuck up information but are so confident and sure they’re right.
It's so crazy to see this as someone who is in a different side of the world, where being different is a death sentence. Nu metal for life!!! I strive to be this free
Love this channel so much. KEEP IT UP!

Us weirdos from the late 90s made it for a while. We almost took over with our music And it's coming back. Being old now, this makes me happy as fuck
This new wave of Nu metal revival is just another example for nostalgia. Nothing else - there are no new impulses with creative new ideas.
there will be lol or just not as popular as old songs, can't say nostalgia to a 15yr old kid bro wtf
Well there is some creative stuff but it's not going to be new metal. It'll either be some kind of alternative. If not that you can find some good stuff and slam and groove these days. ua-cam.com/play/PLxMGo1HwCbWYVox0XfQb99ZdHB9Vr8OWu.html

Goddamn.🖤 Elder Millennial here who grew up in the Nu Metal hayday...these Gen Z kids just make my day with how insightful they are. It's amazing seeing this kind of perspective from the preceding Gen. Love from MB Canada ✌️
Great video. I saw Deftones with Orange 9mm at The Point in Atlanta 1996. Talk about old heads. Limp Bizkit opened for Faith No More at the Masquerade. Snot opened for Suicidal Tendencies. Coal Chamber, Machine head, Incubus, and local legends Sevendust and Stuck Mojo. Good times.
Christ this makes me feel old. Can't believe all the bands I've been listening to since my teens are making a big comeback. Shit man, I remember meeting Deftones back in 2006, so happy I got to meet Chi. I was on the iowa tour when I was 18, saw Korn for the first time on the Untouchables tour (to which I still have my t-shirt from the show). Its mad how things come back round. So glad I got to see all that the first time round though. And glad a new generation has discovered it all. Hope you kids enjoy it all.🤘
Korn and Deftones didn’t go anywhere dude.
No wonder why some bands tried to disassociate themselves with the Nu Metal genre. I was too young to know what people thought about it. Just helped me get through with life. It all started of with Linkin Park then Limp Bizkit, Korn etc etc
The crowd is exactly why I didn’t go to this fest and this video reassures that

It’s funny how I about a year ago started getting back into Nu Metal again & found myself missing it & all the bands around that time period… limp bizkit, deftones, soad, Linkin park, evanescence, mudvayne, Korn & so many others. I went on a binge listening all the bands & watching videos & performances. And now all of a sudden it’s coming back into popularity… seems like everyone else felt the same
This is amazing. I was sent here by Nik
Those skater kids in the start....respect. Like seeing my buddies 25 years ago.
Kids talking about letting go and receiving energy from the bands they love....top notch
a very insightful and positive short film!
I like how it ended with nik nokturnal who gave the most important message at the end. however it would've been nice to hear more from fans who talk about the music rather than the lifestyle. I'm a proghead these day but I'll always be a nu metal kid at heart. I could talk to you for hours about all the brilliant musicians in the nu metal scene. people these days don't realize how avant garde it was in the late 90s early 2000s to combine elements from punk, hip hop, grunge, industrial, pop, grindcore and many more. don't get me wrong, many less talented bands jumped on the train when it became popular but the pioneers of the genre are more than the "frat boy skaters who hate their parents", that people so often associate with this genre
From the interviews leading up to the show, to the coverage of the event and the points at the end....this vid was a banger 🤘
Back in the day "two steppin"(8:33) was called "skankin". It was how you danced to ska/punk music 😊👍
You guys have really outdone yourselves with this one. Excellent work.
It makes me happy and shed a little tear knowing the music that got me through my youth is now being appreciated by the new generation. Y'all need it more than I did I feel. The world is taking a turn for the worse. These are hard times. Stay resilient.
been watching you guys since you were super underrated love seeing you get some love
You guys are doing something great. I had this same idea a while back so it’s awesome to see someone actually doing it. Allow people to see the fans of the music, their stories behind the music, the passion and the culture within different fanbases. I feel like it’s a perspective we needed to see. Love it
Nu metal was my introduction to heavier stuff growing up. Disturbed’s Down With the Sickness is the first song I heard haha. Before all I’d heard was 2000s alt rock top 40. Blew me the fuck away and nu metal is what got me hooked on rock music. I’ll always appreciate it for that
Not familar with American slang but I take it that I'm an 'old head?' im 37 and was a teen at the height of Nu metal.
The way none fans (normies) were with us was they were trying to fight us (we called them scallies here in England) calling us moshers and using 'bounce in the moshpit' 'rollin' rollin' rollin' as an insult (it really wasn't - I thrived in it)
I found that not many born around 1982 and below took to it like we did, my brother being 1981 was more Metallica, Guns and roses etc, although I grew up with that, Nu-metal was just what was in at the time and you couldn't escape it..we loved it.
It's awesome seeing my teenage style being kept alive, I did enjoy dressing like that at 14, ONLY the spikiest of collars and baggiest of pants was acceptable. Kittie was a band I aspired to look like, being one of the only female metal bands out.
I do feel for the younger generation not having their own thing though, but this has made me appreciate how we grew up.
we absolutely do have our own things

Old head here and it makes me happy that a younger generation is enjoying the same stuff I loved and still love to listen when I was in high school and the years after. KoRn got me back into heavy music and my love for it has never stopped since. They and other nu metal bands got me through some tough times and I got tattoos on my body to remember those times and how it shaped my life. I still go to shows and still manage to bang it the pits, absolutely love it. Listen to what you enjoy and moves you. Music is for the individual...keep metal alive! 🤘
It has been crazy seeing how you two have evolved from your early days, i remember in september begging my alt friends to watch you, Neo Punk FM is actually something else
I was born in 2002 but have been listening to nu metal since 2008. My dad introduced me to bands like Korn, System of a Down, and Slipknot at a young age and practically raised me on it. I remember my first nu metal show was Korn with Rob Zombie in 2016 in Boise and ever since then I have a hard time enjoying non metal concerts. The last 5 concerts I’ve seen where Slipknot, Korn again, 311, Sublime with Rome, and Metallica. I don’t only listen to nu metal but metal as a whole is my favorite genre and nothing compares.
This is exactly what i did with my oldest son whos 18 now. Me and my wife flew him to vegas to see sick new world. He had a blast, i can say iv passed down the torch. Good for your dad! Me and him would get along great! Cheers to both and listen to static-X!

Finn's segment was surprisingly off the mark. Spoken like a person that was on the outside looking in at the time. If I were to break Nu Metal into 3 branches it would be 1. The spooky industrial influenced nu metal bands like Coal Chamber, Dope, Orgy, etc. They primarily wore all black, even the dudes would wear a little guy liner, maybe some black lipstick. It was definitely the goth branch of nu metal. 2. The primarily hip hop influenced nu metal. This would be Limp Bizkit, Korn, Downset, etc. Most people when they drag nu metal are thinking about these types of bands. 3. The rock oriented nu metal bands that really are only included in nu metal because of the time they came out and the bands they toured with. Bands like System of a Down, Kilgore, Sevendust, etc. These bands were the bridge between grunge and what would later become butt rock. I also have to disagree with Finn on the last successful genre of metal. That would be metalcore. It was huge, and was probably the last time a band could actually make money from the music.
Idk why people like listen to this bitter balding old man
He does claim he’s not a big fan of the genre despite talking a lot about it.
