She adored Freddie's voice and talent. She said her sons listened to his music. In an interview Freddie said Montserrat was the best voice in the world of opera. Her people contacted Freddie's and said she would like to meet with him and discuss singing together. They hit it off, he wrote a song for her to listen to and perhaps sing. She loved it and asked him to write 10 songs for an album they could do together. The title song, Barcelona was used as the anthem for the Olympics in 1992. Freddie had given his approval. He died in 1991. Montserrat said she had many offers later to sing with others, but no one could compare to Freddie, so she would not sing with them. I think most Queen fans loved it. Freddie was outstanding both as a composer and as a musician. He was always growing and expanding his talent for the world to enjoy. This album, in my opinion, is the pinnacle of musical creativity. Tim Rice helped compose. He did Evita and several other great creations
🙋🏾♀️ Hiya Sharon Halliday 💁🏾♀️ Actually, Mike Moran help compose the music and Tim Rice help with some of the lyrics as he’s a lyricist. Also, Montse wrote the words to Ensueno✌🏾!
Freddie was the first to do a collab with an Opera singer. Now a days several have done it. You should listen to Exercises in Free Love. It’s a demo Freddie did to bring to Spain to show Monserrat his opera voice She loved it so much she actually sang in on stage and called him out in the audience as a surprise for being the author of it. My jaw dropped the first time I heard it. Queen fans love Freddie so much they all loved the collab with Monserrat. They did an album together.
Freddie loved opera. And she was one of his favorite singers. Freddie and two other songwriters Mike Moran and Tim Rice wrote this song. Her and Freddie developed a beautiful friendship till his death.
Just incredible that these two from different sides of music had the talent to sound so gorgeous together. Freddie write the album with Mike Moran. Freddie and Monsey Ashe called her became very close. He confided he was suffering from AIDS. She accepted him and respected him.
Who else? Dimash Kudaibergen has bridged that gap between genres. Freddie would've loved Dimash. Check out S.O.S. at Slavic Bizarre. He is spectacular, he mixes pop, rock, jazz, folk, opera etc. And he has a 6 octave range that he sings effortlessly in. ♡
@@SeeliaVachon Dimash does not do rock very well. Freddie was more versatile. Freddie sings in his baritone tesitura..!!! It’s a freaking crazy... as his voice can sing like that !!! Freddie and Monserrat has and special and magic bond. You can see by the way them seeing each other..!! It’s a bond make with music, love, admiration and respect.
They say Freddie taught her to relax and have fun with the music vs the stiff classic training. She adored Freddie. This was a rock opera gospel mix. It's a blessing that Freddie got to spread his wings before he passed and left this for us.
I am no opera lover but this album is a stand alone masterpiece. "How can I go on" is another wonderful song from this album "Barcelona". I am a Queen nut and I thought I was going to hate this album but no, it's up there with any Queen album.
Freddie wrote the whole thing. He greatly admired Montserrat,a world-renowned Spanish soprano. When they were introduced, there was a piano in the room (a hotel lobby). They tried a few things out and couldn’t stop until morning. He wrote the CD Barcelona, her home town, and dreamed of singing it together at the 1992 Olympics taking place there. Sadly,Freddie passed away before then. They each admired each others’ work.
This was good but I was expecting the song "Barcelona". You should react to the version with the conductor using a "light saber". The song is fabulous and was played at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Freddie wrote a whole album of songs for Montserrat.
love Montserrat Caballe she is awesome. My fave song of hers is called "Giusto ciel! in tal periglio"; L'assedio di Corinto; Gioachino Rosisni . Its so beautiful, the emotion that pours out in her voice its just amazing.
actually Montserrat was not AT Freddie's funeral. She was out of the country at the time so her singing a Verdi aria was played at the conclusion of the service. Aretha Franklin singing was played at the beginning of the funeral service. Almost a year ago I discovered this by googling something like....'what songs were played at Freddie Mercury's funeral service?'
Caballe had been asked to sing at the opening of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, her home town. When she and Freddie met they spent the evening and all night jamming at the piano. She asked him to write a song to be used at the Olympics. She liked it so much ("Barcelona") she asked him to write enough songs for them to produce an album together. Mercury/Moran/Rice songwriters. He would have performed it live with her at the Olympics, but of course, he had passed away the year before...This is the best version: ua-cam.com/video/hkskujG0UYc/v-deo.html It is an incredible collaboration indeed! Thank You!
The best was watching you, Brian, evolve into amazement. As an opera Diva, Montserrat was well versed in acting out roles with her voice. They spent considerable hours rehearsing and Freddie had shared his health predicament with her. They loved the musicality of each other. We Queen fans LOVE their collaboration.
Fantastic duet,,, sad that none of them are alive anymore. I thought they were just singing the song for the Barcelóna Olympics together,,, i'm glad to see there's something else, thanks
Great reaction, but this is not Barcelona - it's The Golden Boy - but that's cool because it's my favorite performance from the album 😃 - a fabulous coupling of opera and gospel! Thanks! BTW, Freddie wrote this with Mike Moran and Tim Rice. You should explore more of the album, amazing songs, all of them. Please, please, please check out Exercises in Free Love by Freddie. It's basically a demo he did of Montserrat's part for the song Ensueño on the Barcelona album. Freddie - hittin' the high notes way before Dimash...
Thanks for the recommendation. Just watched the demo. Made me cry again for the loss of Freddie. He was just so exceptionally talented. I love Dimash and of course he loves Freddie too.

Thanks guys for the awesome reaction to this song! This is The Golden Boy it is not Barcelona, it is from 1988. I love this album, it is amazing. Freddie was the first popular singer who did an opera crossover album, and he wrote all of the songs for it. He was a musical genuis. Could you guys please react to some older Queen? Barcelona from Freddie and Montserrat is beautiful ,Freddie was a big opera fan and wrote some songs for them both ,Barcelona is my personal favourite, another great song you should react to is I want it all I'm sure you may have heard some of it , thank you and stay safe from Liverpool uk
A few years after Freddie had passed away Montserrat was being interviewed in her home by a BBC reporter and the reporter asked her what the big difference was between performing opera and performing with Freddie and her immediate reply was "freedom". She went on to explain that as an opera singer she had no control over what or how she sang the songs. The conductor was in complete control and she followed whatever the conductor wanted. It was not until she got together with Freddie did she understand what it meant to sing freely. She would ask him what he wanted her to be doing at certain points in the song and he would reply that she should do whatever she felt like. Adlib! At first she did not understand that concept but it did not take long for her to understand what he meant and to go with the flow so to speak. She said that singing with Freddie was complete joy because it was the first time she had ever felt the freedom to do whatever she wanted to do. You can see that joy written across her face in this video. I have always loved this video for that reason. Seeing the joy that singing with Freddie brought her just makes you feel good.
Yes -- you can totally see how much FUN she is having singing with Freddie... especially in "how can I go on" -- she is lip-synching his parts... lol and also "golden boy" - when they get into the gospel part... she looks like she's never had so much fun in her life... and maybe she had not... but the most awesome thing is when you see the connection that Freddie and Montserrat had -- looking in each others' eyes -- holding hands... there was such mutual respect and affection...
Freddie wrote it. He & Montserrat Caballe did an album together. Freddie said, she was the greatest singer that he had ever heard. You should listen to the song Barcelona, Freddie wrote it for her...It's beautiful....
Beverly Dorn Just a quick clarification, “The Golden Boy” was written by Freddie Mercury, Mike Moran, and Tim Rice. Tim Rice is famous for writing the songs for “Cats”, “Phantom of the Opera”, etc.
🙋🏾♀️ Hiya Den Hum 💁🏾♀️ That’s correct! Mike Moran assisted in the composition of the music, Tim Rice assisted with the lyrics of I think he’d said 3 songs. Witnesses of this extraordinary journey, like Peter Freestone, Sir Tim Rice, Mike Moran... and Monserrat herself, has been done testimony of this crazy adventure! It’s really outstanding how much was capable Freddie to achieve. I really admire his creativity and courage to build a bridge between these two worlds, and the courage of Montserrat as well They were the first to do something like that 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Also, Montserrat Caballe said: “Barcelona was an example of Freddie's high musical talent. He was not just a popular singer, he was a musician who could sit at the piano and compose. He discovered a new way to combine different musical styles. He is the first and only person who has done this. ”
Monsterrat commented in an interview that she loved the freedom that singing with Freddie allowed. When singing opera you had to follow the script. Here she had input and collaboration. She loved Freddie
Tim Rice..., Sir Tim Rice... was involved in those exceptional lyrics!!! Such an honor was to count with him in Barcelona’s album. And such an honor to him, to work with someone like Freddie in this masterpiece and write for this outstanding musical piece!!! Freddie and Monserrat were an amazing, special and beautiful singers... they definitely did something absolutely outstanding fir this time!!!
Montserrat was probably the first person outside of his inner circle to tell that he had Aids. She said to him "We will perform this together at the Olympics" and he said "I won't be able to be there" and then he told her. :( She said that's when she knew she was truly his friend.
Peter Freestone, Freddie’s personal assistant said : “He walked in the clouds. Freddie was high in the sky. He didn't need a plane to go home, how happy he was. As far as I know about Freddie, one of the greatest and best moments of his life was when Montserrat came to London to record his vocal track for Barcelona. After they did, on the way home from the studio, I remember that Freddie turned to me and said: Yeah.... That's it! I've got it! I have HER voice in MY music” From: www.freddiemercury.com/es/archivo
One of my favorite albums! I love everything Freddie does but I also love opera so it just was a true gift for me. Freddie sought Monsterrat out because while he loved being the front man for Queen, deep down, he never really enjoyed rock as much. He actually quoted on it. Anyway, after rising to the top with Queen, he decided he was powerful enough to venture out even if he wasn't as successful. He did it for himself because this is what he truly loved. I think this is why Queen was so successful and timeless. Freddie was able to gracefully fuse his flare and more flamboyant tastes into his performances with Queen, whether it be rock or funk or rockabilly.
This was a cool reaction! I heard one of Freddie's songs. I think it was "Time". Actually a very amazing singer and performer. Can you try to react to another artist called Jackson Wang. He was born in Hong Kong, but most of his songs are in english, so you can fully enjoy them.I recommend Bullet to the Heart, and 100 Ways. Both incredible songs and dancing. If you want to try another k pop group, you can try Everglow "Dun Dun", or Red Velvet "Psycho." If you want more BTS, react to Bts MMA 2019, or Mama 2019. Both huge award show performance, but it seems like their own concert. That is how epic they are. Thanks for posting during quarantine! I was really bored today, and this gave me something to watch (:
Freddie wrote the whole album of around 10 songs they only met a few years before he died,I told you it was different,it didn't come out in 92 as freddie had already died, freddie loved all sorts of music and also the opera and ballet, which I might of sent you links too? Hi Stan I've sent you a message on instagram now,I'm not sure if I'm the person you're thinking of,I only subscribed a few months ago,you should look at The Exercises In Free Love which is on the Barcelona Album, but Freddie also did something similar live in concert
Guys, here is what happened. Freddie Mercury attended a Opera, and she got on the stage and started singing. He fell in love with her voice and to make a long story short, one night he invited her to dinner and she ended up staying over night. It was the royal scandal back then; The King of Rock and the Queen of Opera... But all they did was him playing piano and she singing. Heck video explains it better. ua-cam.com/video/sCGx6lK6GVY/v-deo.html
This was the Golden Boy not Barcelona. They did a whole album together and Barcelona was used for the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 but all songs were recorded in 1988. Please review some of the others, especially Barcelona. You will like it as well. Freddy and Montsy truly loved and respected each other and it came out on the music.
Yes this not its title,.notice you have not hear the word Barcelona through the song. .but still love it though..please check out the vid of Barcelona itself..tnxmuch..
Love your reaction guys, but this is not Barcelona, this is called The Golden Boy. Freddie wrote a whole album of songs for her and this was on that album. The song Barcelona was written by Freddie for Montserrat about their first meeting in Barcelona. It was used for the Olympics in 1992, but sadly Freddie died the year before. You should really react to Barcelona, it is absolutely amazing. They became very good friends after meeting the first time in Barcelona. Freddie loves opera and saw her for the first time and fell in love with her. Word got out that he wanted to meet her and they met and the rest is history. Freddie brought opera and rock and roll together. She died a few years ago and I truly believe that Heaven sounds even sweeter with the 2 of them singing there together now. I hope you react to Barcelona, it is in my opinion even better than this one♥️
You dare laugh at a rock legend, and the greatest soprano of our time, and probably the last great spanish dive? I don't think you really know how famous she is. She is the female Pavarotti.
If you LOVE Freddie's voice this song really showcases it: ua-cam.com/video/NWzeNnq1-rA/v-deo.html "Let Me In Your Heart Again". Brian said when it was first worked on it ('84) they couldn't get it to a satisfactory recording. Went back later and found the vocal tracks to be great after all, and made some new music for them.
@Motown 1966. today just seeing this comment of yours. Your observation mirrors my own. I believe Freddie wanted to document for Mary Austin his heartfelt care for her . . . and understanding of their mutual heartache. I also think he shared with Tim Rice notes he had scribbled over the years, for a musical telling the story of their love as he saw it. I have heard, Tim Rice imply in an interview that he wasn't given any such guidance - think he said it because Freddie didn't want it known. I bet Mary knows it's true. Of course for the sake of art - some liberties may be inherent in the lyrics.
Hi from France ! should you hear something stunning, listen to "exercises in free love" (Freddie Mercury)... and please please please please please please please please react...

Also, Montserrat Caballe said: “Barcelona was an example of Freddie's high musical talent. He was not just a popular singer, he was a musician who could sit at the piano and compose. He discovered a new way to combine different musical styles. He is the first and only person who has done this. ”
He is the best ever!!!! I love him❤❤❤❤
Monsterrat commented in an interview that she loved the freedom that singing with Freddie allowed.
:( She said that's when she knew she was truly his friend.
this isn’t Barcelona guys
happy to heard montsy live! ♥ at the aftershow-party we had a lot of fun! ♥ love her! ♥
This makes a change from all the Barcelona reactions, at least :)
Interesting song. Freddie never looks happy lip synching these but hey lol
please react to the song "Barcelona" by Freddie and Montserrat Caballé. Olympic Games 1992.
Bravooo...saludos desde España 👏👏👏👏👏
Peter Freestone, Freddie’s personal assistant said : “He walked in the clouds. Freddie was high in the sky. He didn't need a plane to go home, how happy he was. As far as I know about Freddie, one of the greatest and best moments of his life was when Montserrat came to London to record his vocal track for Barcelona. After they did, on the way home from the studio, I remember that Freddie turned to me and said:
Yeah.... That's it! I've got it! I have HER voice in MY music”

Wow 🥰 beautiful Freddie and Montserrat ❤️ liked subscribed 😁 do you have a playlist for queen and Freddie?❣️ Freddie Mercury ❤️
Welled said. He and John brought much needed variety in music into the band.
React to Freedie Mercury Barcelona
Freddie wrote the whole album of around 10 songs they only met a few years before he died,I told you it was different,it didn't come out in 92 as freddie had already died, freddie loved all sorts of music and also the opera and ballet, which I might of sent you links too? Hi Stan I've sent you a message on instagram now,I'm not sure if I'm the person you're thinking of,I only subscribed a few months ago,you should look at The Exercises In Free Love which is on the Barcelona Album, but Freddie also did something similar live in concert

@@TheBandSShow hahaha close but no cigar 😁
Guys, here is what happened.
Freddie Mercury attended a Opera, and she got on the stage and started singing. He fell in love with her voice and to make a long story short, one night he invited her to dinner and she ended up staying over night. It was the royal scandal back then; The King of Rock and the Queen of Opera... But all they did was him playing piano and she singing. Heck video explains it better.

Now do Barcelona
Freddie wrote all the songs for this album called Barcelona
She sang at Freddie's funeral.
Great reaction, but this is not song "Barcelona", it is song "The Golden Boy " :)
Change the title please it's not called Barcelona
Yes this not its title,.notice you have not hear the word Barcelona through the song. .but still love it though..please check out the vid of Barcelona itself..tnxmuch..
Freddie wrote the whole Barcelona album… 😎
Esta canción...no es Barcelona🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️😏😏
Reaction a Barcelona.
Hi guys . Song was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Freddie
You dare laugh at a rock legend, and the greatest soprano of our time, and probably the last great spanish dive? I don't think you really know how famous she is. She is the female Pavarotti.
If you want know who is Montserrat Caballé i recommends you her video singuing Spossa son disprezzata de Vivaldi version with orchestra in Russia.
Freddie Mercury and Floor Jansen are the only performers in history to bridge rock/metal and opera so seamlessly.
Tarja Turunen ring a bell. Nightwish before Floor? and Emma Shapplin as well.
❣️❣️❣️
If you LOVE Freddie's voice this song really showcases it: ua-cam.com/video/NWzeNnq1-rA/v-deo.html "Let Me In Your Heart Again". Brian said when it was first worked on it ('84) they couldn't get it to a satisfactory recording. Went back later and found the vocal tracks to be great after all, and made some new music for them.
🙋🏾♀️ Hiya 💁🏾♀️ I’m glad you both enjoyed this semi autographical gospel number. The protangist in the song is Freddie; however, who’s the woman he’s singing ‘bout in the lyrics??? Could it be non other than Mary Austin [Freddie’s ex-fiancé & life-long friend]??? Freddie had promised to take care of her for the rest of her life and indeed he’d kept that promise but according to Mary, at such a high price as she felt Freddie had ‘cursed her’ with too much of his wealth.
Well they certainly had a shift in their relationship (like the song says). Her expectations were different at the start of their relationship and had changed after he confesses a great secret to her. She’d kept his secrets throughout their friendship so she would ‘fit the bill’ as being the woman in this story. What do you [fellow Queenies] think?
Song Lyrics copied ‘n pasted here from Google:
The boy had a way with words, he sang, he moved with grace
He entertained so naturally, no gesture out of place
His road in life was clearly drawn, he didn't hesitate
He played, they saw, he conquered as the master of
As the master of his fate
The girl had an iron soul no-one could recognize
Material ambition that her gentleness disguised
She gave herself to him certain of his fame
Wanted him for luxury for limelight and his name
And then he sang to her
I love you for your silence
I love you for your peace
The still and calm releases
That sweep into my soul
That slowly take control
I love you for your passion
I love you for your fire
The violent desire
That burns me in it's flame
A love I dare not name
His rise was irresistible - yeah, he grew into the part
His explanation simply that he suffered for his art
No base considerations of some glittering reward
The prize was knowing that (his work) his work was noticed and adored
Hey
I love you (yes I love you) for your silence (for your silence)
I love you for your peace (for your peace)
The still and calm releases
That sweep into my soul
And slowly slowly takes control
He told the truth
Yes, he told the truth (and he told the truth)
Accepting every honor with (with) a masterly display (display)
Of well rehearsed reluctance to be singled out this way
He started to believe that he was all they said and more (and more)
She forgot, she forgot the reasons (reasons) she had wanted him before
Yeah
I love you for your passion (for your passion)
I love you for your fire
The violent desire
That burns me in it's flame (burns me)
A love I dare not name
The still and calm releases (releases)
That sweep into my soul (sweep into my soul)
That slowly (slowly) slowly (slowly) slowly (slowly)
Slowly (slowly) slowly (slowly) slowly (slowly) slowly take control
And when at last they fell apart she wished that she could be
The hardened heart of yesterday, as cynical as he
By changing for the better she had changed things for the worse
The words that made them happy once now echoed, echoed as a curse

Motown 1966 Queen fanatic here. I definitely agree with you!
She was female Pawarotti .Best of the best.
