Brave. Just very brave doing this game. Kusoge of the highest order this one is. I've been curious to try it sometime, but I can't even motivate myself to pop it up on my multicart in over 5 years now. :D

Some boss game doesn't have name but if i know the first boss was Nishi Kanishi,the fifth boss was Gondo Goromaki and the guy with Carlos was Harry Robert

I am leaving this video a like, not because of the legend that is Joe, but I absolutely love how you got into the history and the story of the team. I’ve always hated this game and I have not ever bothered looking at the anime or manga but now I am interested.
Meglo boxing is a great anime that was inspired by Joe series.

I genuinely like this game. It can get frustrating in later stages, but like in most games, you can learn the patterns and correct responses, amd itcan be played with some skill. Boxing games in general have struggled through the years, but at least this game tries some interesting storytelling, and can feel pretty satisfying when it all comes together.
I wouldn't try to convince anyone that it's amazing, but for the right audience, there's something there. I really wish I could find an AES copy at a good price, but those days have sailed. I'll just have to stay on MVS.
Another top notch video by you Alec. I actually have Legend of Success Joe for the AES. I remember buying it at an import store for $100 bucks when I started collecting for the home console. The owner of the store said it was a horrible game and said nobody was willing to spend the money on it...Being a sucker for unfavorable games, I figured to buy it for the collection. Truthfully, I think there's much worst, I mean this isn't even going to win E3's "Game of the Show" but I think its okay!. A 6/10 in my books. 8^)

Horrible that cheating owner kept it at 100 bucks even though hw saw no one was buying it for years.
There's certainly worse games out there... just not on Neo Geo! It's definitely the worst game on the system, at least in my opinion.

This manga is where my nick comes from! Also, there's an Ashita no Joe for the PC-88, released in 1983 by CSK. Looks like it's a text adventure, maybe we could see a "review" of it in this channel someday...?
The PC-88 game seems to be exceedingly rare, so I probably will never cover it. I prefer to review games I own and can show the original packaging in the video. -Mr. Jakes

Yeah, play it. I understand the morbid curiosity. Some people like trying to master fussy, poorly made games like this. And bad Neo Geo is still Neo Geo.

I thought this game was a crappy homebrew the first time I tried it. I couldn't believe this was an actual release.
However, that punch out clone looks like it might be cool. They should have used that perspective, it might have been cool to have a boxing game that looks like super spy 🤔🤔.
I didn't weigh in on any of the games other than the Neo Geo and SNES ones, but yeah, I think that 1990 arcade game from Wave is probably the best of the bunch. Interesting system and animation cues, like Punch Out. The Konami PS2 game is pretty bad, and I don't think the GBA one is great either. I wouldn't mind trying the typing game though.

Nope. My brother and I bought most of our MVS collection $20-$30 in the mid 2000's. There was only a handful that we paid more than $100 for to complete the collection. Anyone who thinks all Neo Geo collectors are rich hasn't met MVS collectors.
Dude... where did you get the english dub of Ashita No Joe (evidenced by the clips)? I thought that the original English Dub was lost??? I remember that it was going to come over to the United States as “Rocky Joe”; but the dubbing studio opted out after watching the ending (which I will not spoil for those who are interested into getting into the anime) after being curous about the source material itself. I’ll admit, if it wasn’t for this game, I wouldn’t have gotten into what I think is one of-if not the GREATEST sports anime ever.

Really, you want that? Again, the reason this doesn't get re-released for anything is the Ashita no Joe license. People gots to get paid. It's much cheaper for SNK to re-release games that they fully own the rights to. I'd be curious to know whether SNK currently owns the rights to the game itself.

@@BasementBrothers I find more odd they dint add some cameos to live up and show the background charactaters, specially having no apreance of shoko feels wrong to the story.
I only played this once on MAME, and it was horrid. In fact, i think this game suffered from an identity crisis. Did it wanna be like Final Fight? Or like The Final Round by Konami?

This game looks like an early PC Engine title. The animation is at the same level of China Warrior/The Kung Fu. Joe Yabuki deserved so much better.

I think this game was meant to be released on a different weaker arcade hardware and ported to the neo geo very late in development. Where are the neo geo hardware strengths in this game? It is odd that scaling is never used.
It’s neat to see a Neo Geo game that’s so bad despite it still having some common qualities of other Neo Geo games. The little details like bruises & blood.
Perhaps, but it wasn't made by SNK or a relative, and it really shows.

Haha. I've set myself some ground rules for the series. No reason to break them and skip ahead now. Wel'll get to NGH-032 soon enough. I've already covered Mutation Nation and Sengoku. How about those ones?

8:57 Its Rikiishi who beats Joe up in that match. One particular punch to the temple and Rikiishi's grueling weightloss is what killed him in the end.
The graphics aren't too bad in the boxing ring. But the outside areas are atrocious.
Even before this episode, when you just showed clips of it, I could see so clearly how poorly the controls looked... but wow.
The other arcade Ashita no Joe game made by Taito is just as bad and actually kind of creepy. It's crazy that the same license produced two of the worst arcade games ever rather close together in release dates.

Ouch...I definitely wouldn't put this in even my Bottom 10 Neo Geo games. Most of the shooters on there except for Twinklestar Sprites for sure, along with Metal Slug 4 are easily worse games than this tbh. King of the Monsters was also a bore fest, which I'd put below this.
