Part 5 is great, from the soundtrack to the twist at the end. It is definitely one of my go to Friday film to watch.

Friday The 13th Part 5 was love at first watch for me, and swiftly became my favorite Friday movie. What initially appears to be a typical franchise slasher sequel is actually Hollywood-financed grindhouse movie in disguise. It's an exploitation film that's also exploiting the same series of exploitation films that it already exists in. Just as Roy Burns exploits Jason's image to execute his revenge, Danny Steinmen exploited Jason's image to produce his magnum sleaze opus. Friday The 13th Part 5 is one of the most meta horror films of the entire 80s, and Danny Steinman was a creative genius R.I.P.

Yeah, when you pay attention, you notice certain things.
Like when Tommy bodyslams the one guy, everyone is freaking out, but Violet is smiling and enjoying what she's seeing.

This one is my FAVORITE and I could care less that it has a fake Jason, infact I think that's why it gets a bad wrap. It has some great characters like "Demon," "Reggie The Reckless" and BODY-SLAMMING "Tommy Jarvis," not to mention the GREATEST NUDE SCENE IN HISTORY! GOD BLESS DEBBIE SUE VOORHEES! I even think the fake Jason gives it a certain charm. Friday five is AWESOME! 🎥

Today, I unapolegetically love Part 5. I started watching the F13 series in the 90s when I was a teenager. There were 9 movies in the franchise.
My bottom 3 in the franchise were JGTH, Part 1, and Part 5.
In the last 10 years - particularly the last 3-4, Part 5 is now one of my Top 4 favorites in the franchise.
My top 2 in order are Part 7, Part 6...and the my #3 and #4 slots rotate between Part 5 and Part 8.
I love part 5. John Sheppard gives the actual best performance in the entire franchise. I completely believe he's suffering from PTSD and hallucinations.
The supporting characters are insane. The dialogue is quotable, and most of the actors seemed to be having fun.
The score is one of the best in the franchise.
Roy is a very unique alternate costume for Jason.
    Part 5 is great.
The commentary track with Danny Steinman, John Sheppard, and Shavar Ross is a laugh a minute riot. It's my preferred way to watch the movie.
I first saw Part 5 on the USA network during their F13 marathons. I was sitting in her armless, brown lounge chair. This would have been 92 or 93.

My grandfather had part 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 in his VHS collection. I didn't see part 4 till a couple years later. So I had no idea that Jason was killed, other then part 5 and 6 telling me he was killed off in part 4. Which is ironic because Joe Bob Briggs had a Friday marathon and he complained "How can part 4 be missing?" because they couldn't get the rights to play it and yelled at the staff of the show "There are critical plot points in part 4!" lol.
As I've said many times. A nightmare on elm street part 2, and Friday the 13th part 5. Those two films I have ALWAYS liked/loved and never understood why they were so looked down upon in the franchise, by fans. I mean how can you NOT like those two entries?! And the "oh, it's not Jason" .....Oh, you mean like part 1?!
"I realized immediately I can't be upset about this. I just had one of the most fun times watching a Friday the 13th movie." Exactly, and it fits the franchise since Pamela was the killer in part 1 and it isn't like the film totally ruins the previous 4 films. Like for instance Curse of Chucky. It totally rewrites the original opening of the film. Now Bride of Chucky rewrites the ENTIRE franchise because the entire franchise and part 1 is about Chucky trying to possess Andy because he's the first one he told that he was alive in the doll - then Bride of Chucky comes along and goes "No, Chucky could of just ditched Andy and went for his necklace" okay, then why did the first 3 movies happen?! Oh and Chucky in part 1 didn't even know how to get out of the doll. He had to ask his voodoo mentor, but it's entertaining enough that I can forgive it and go "what the hell. Go with it." Curse of Chucky, it messes up the original movie too much for me to enjoy. Friday part 5, doesn't do any of that what so ever. It respects the other movies. It's a throwback to part 1, it's highly entertaining. So who cares if it's not Jason?
As another Friday fan said "Don't disregard all the other movies. Make it all count, and the fans will love you for it." and part 5 definitely does not at all mess with any of the other movies.
My favorite scene and probably the most iconic scene ever in a Friday movie to me is "His eyes" and Violet's robot dance.
In terms of "it isn't Jason? It was that ambulance guy, Roy?!" ...as much as I love Friday part 5, I knew Roy was the killer the SECOND Roy reacts to his son's body.
Ya, that's another thing about part 5...it's pretty damn quotable especially one of my all time favorite Friday characters; Ethel.
"Eat your f**kin slop!" and lol, I have that shirt. "It's SHOW TIME!" "Lana! LANA!" "And snow flurries up your nose." "Jason Voorhees?! You're out of your f**king mind. You've been out in the sun too long. Jason Voorhees is dead!" "Your a$$ is on the line Tucker. You bring me a gawd damn live suspect!" "Rat tat tootie. FIX THE F**KING CAR! Rat tat Tootie! ....What you doin up there Vinnie?!" "Forget it Vic! JUST FORGET IT! But I think your really out of line!"
And the thing is "All this over a candy bar"....as a true crime fan I've heard FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR worse.
I've seen cases of people being killed for the most dumbest thing ever. A stick of bubble gum, a bag of cheetos, a parking dispute. I've even seen cases where someone bet someone else "I bet you $1.00 to kill [insert person here" and they f**king did it. My high school teacher, she use to work with deeply disturbed children and she told us some of the stories. The most disturbing story to me at least and this left the rest of the class room shocked a group of friends bet this guy $1.00 to kill his own grandmother, and he did it...and we were all sitting there in class with our mouths gaping and she said "Ya...one dollar." and a couple weeks ago I saw a youtube video about a kid who killed someone over a $5.00 bet. So the whole "all this over a candy bar" That to me is actually pretty damn realistic. That happens all the time.
And yes, part 5 is easily the one I go to all the time when deciding on a Friday film.
it's like part 7. Ya, it was cut to ribbons and you can absolutely tell, but part 7 is so entertaining. I love the whole idea of "Carrie vs Jason". I love the zombie skeletal look of Jason. I love the soundtrack. I don't care about the censored kills. Part 5, it's sleazy, it's quotable, the characters are some of the best in the entire franchise. I love the look of the film. It's super dark and funny at the same time. I don't care that it's Roy the imposter instead of Jason.

I always hated that people would say they hate part 5 because jason wasn't the killer, yet say that part 1 is one of their favorites. It comes off as hypocritical to me to hate part 5 because jason wasn't the killer, yet love part 1 despite him not being the killer in that either

I always remember this growing up. Interesting how much Tommy changed from this to 'J.Lives'..but then that was "Freddy" from 'RotLD'...Dude, his brothers name was Demon?? I never realized that. I always know him from his real name more than Demon. I was def. not expecting him to get taken out by Martin(the TV show) on one of the funniest episodes made, if you grew up with that of course. But it also had Jon 'F'N Gries as a regular! 😎👍 Good video my friend.

Friday the 13th 5 in my opinion does a great job at showing us the aftermath of a trauma like what Tommy went through at such a young age. Jaws 3, , Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, Halloween 2018, even Halloween Kills all gave us characters that went through a terrifying ordeal and how it affected them later on.
This is bogged down by over the top cartoon characters and obscene amounts of kills and nudity but it's also part of the charm.
I actually prefer this Tommy because it does feel real.

You ended up mentioning it before I could, but the reason the kid getting hacked with the axe was funny was because of who did it. So I was not bothered at all that it was not Jason at the end. The prologue and Tommy’s hallucinations more than make up for the lack of Jason, IMO.

I love this entry Friday the 13th part V A New Beginning
Is in my top 3 of all the Friday the 13th Films
Fans judge this film poorly due to Jason not being the killer (But, in the original Friday the 13th Jason wasn't the killer either But, that Film gets this strange reverence towards it while A New Beginning is the red headed step child that gets very little love and should be looked at in a much higher respect as far as Horror Films (It's Close to flawless) If you told Larry Flynt to direct a FT13 film Friday the 13th part 5 would be that film
This film is simple but, at the same time layered and so much smarter then people give it credit for.
Tommy Jarvis returns for the 2nd time keep in mind up until The Final Friday the survivors were usually strong females.
Tommy Jarvis would be the only male Character that would live on and be in many ways Jason's nemesis.
The film takes place 5 years into the future. (This is also the start of the Friday the 13th Time Line going all over the place) Not really this films fault though cause the director's after this didn't add logic to the Big picture (but, back in the 1980's everyone was so coked up I doubt a time line mattered to anyone)
Tommy being a complete basket case after the events of the previous film makes a lot of sense.
Roy snapping after Joey's death is a call back to the original film.
It's a very slick twist that doesn't make complete sense though.
Since Vic murdered Joey not the countless amount of people Roy killed
Vic was used as a red herring but, so was Tommy for that matter it was smart misdirection.
The ending was meant to set Tommy up as the new Killer in The Friday The 13th Series
But, things didn't work out that way
One thing everyone should know up front this is a real grindhouse style slasher film long before the grindhouse movement became this hip retro thing! This was in 1985 when VHS was becoming the norm in american homes and President Ronald Reagan was sucking on jellybeans.
It's sleazy and very dirty and tasteless But, it never once pretends it ain't......
Everyone after the fact acted surprised by the final product
They paid Danny Steinmann a good amount to co-write and direct But, they never looked at his previous work....
I call complete BS on anyone who says that! Even Frank Mancuso Jr threw Danny under the bus in that latest documentary. Frank Mancuso Jr. is a typical cooperate suite who's so out of touch it's frighting.
The film is very much a mix between 1970's grindhouse sleaze & 1980's style
The cast is a real motley crue of various actors
Everyone has a strange part to play some characters have no real point in being there but, they show up and it works
This film is a great example while your under the influence of god knows what you can write Insane trippy things
and it can be brilliant and still insane! Case in point Oliver Stones Natural Born Killers
This film was very much ahead of it's time it tried to be a little to different and payed the price
It's much like the original Friday the 13th a homage to Psycho But, with hardcore sex and death
the wikipedia page on this film is interesting. But, who knows whats real and fake?
When you get down to it I see this film being like a Rocky Horror Picture Show at some point
Every horror fan has been demanding a uncut version of Friday the 13th part 7
I'd rather have a uncut rated X version of Friday the 13th Part 5
Part 5 was singled out and edited the most. due to the time and the Director of this entry
The sex scene between Tina and Eddie was majorly cut down. The scene itself ran around 8 minutes
All the gore and deaths were heavily edited
Violet death was changed from the original concept I forgot if the original death scene was even filmed
Part 5 A New Beginning was beyond ambitious it was unique and brave! It tried to do things differently and was sacrificed for it IMO If Friday the 13th Part 5 was released uncut it would be on the same level as Lucio Fulci's The New York Ripper! I genuinely love this film always quick to defend it (I'm a bit surprised Horror Fans didn't understand this sequel and embrace it from day one) But, it's slowly gained a good size fan base! I could probably write a book on this film

Saw F13 parts 3-7 in theaters back in the 80s. Never really witnessed anyone laugh at any of the death scenes until part 5 (and it all started with Vic smacking Joey with that axe) After that scene, fans couldn’t get enough laughs and wanted to see more miserable characters dying in the most ridiculous ways possible (and if the acting was bad, the laughs were even greater)

I think I like Part V just as much as Jason X. Wild to think that we have officially licensed figures of Roy before JTM.

I always like part 5 . never really minded that Jason was the killer . I fought Ray was awesome . but I didn't like Tommy in this film I like Corey Feldman and tom Mathews better . I think it would be Awesome if some day we found out Pamela had a Brother and her brother was Roy burns and thats why the spirit of Jason possessed him when Joey was murdered .

It's a Flawed entry in the series, no doubt,
the Roy character isn't well thought up, however, it feels like a true Friday the 13th film, the characters are just brilliant throughout, especially Ethyl and here crazy Son, "you're from the Loony bin, my Mom is gonna chop you up into 80 bitty pieces my friend". Great Video!!😀👍

yeah even when you're like 10 or so it didn't seem right that a halfway home for teenagers they let them roam around f'ing and even worse have access to axe(s) as part of their chores.

that's probably the "hound dogs" psycopathy, they're sex addicts. now gotta remember, this is a VERY badly run halfway house for this to make sense but we already got good other evidence of that being the case.

if you take out the plot twist this is an excellent slasher.

Well, Jason was DEAD so no reason to take out the plot twist.

This is my least favourite of the original Paramount first 8 movies. But I respect that it tried to do something different

7 and 8 were the worst

Part 8 and 9 were the worst, at least part 5 took place in Crystal Lake.

To me the characters are bizarre, not relatable, not really funny (cringe actually), trashy, but undeniably high kill count and 'Jason' looks cool and I have a good time with it. Always have. It's not high on my F13 list but I love the Paramount 8.

Part V is at the bottom of my list as far as the original Paramount series goes, and Jason not being the killer has nothing to do with it. I think the movie has some good ideas, but with everything else being so over the top, I just can’t take it seriously. However, I wish that Simon Hawke had been able to do a novelization for the movie. I have zero doubt that the internal monologues for Roy and Tommy would have been tremendous.

While I can somewhat understand the renaissance that Jason Takes Manhattan has had with fans, I don’t see it with Part V. It’s easily my least favorite of the entire series. It’s like a gross porno.

Cliche take. There is as much sex and nudity in part 4. Hell, there's full frontal in part 2. Bush.
      7-10 are unequivocally the worst.
