Parmiagani got a big influx when the head of bulgari left and joined the brand. They have always been making parts under the umbrella but now the watches have revamped style. Still the pre revamped tondas are sleepers and great value buys.
Significent Watches is absolutely excellent. And really the only properly authoritative vintage watch podcast. Apart from anything, it helps me not feel a fool about all the old watches I bought and then had to fix. they will tell you how to not do that.
Discussions like this make it clear how much business Rolex leaves on the table by not increasing production. Still the smart move in the long-run for the brand as it would lose its desirability if they became too passé
It’s weird, by just having a real watch these days makes you a different cat. The Apple Watch is sucking the style and soul out of people. Great content as usual.
I think the Apple Watch re-introduced watches to a whole generation, and a lot of that generation moved onto mechanical watches. Happened to me and a lot of people I know.
John, great conversation with the vintage watch expert Mr. Wind. If you can reach out to Eric and ask him what he thinks of buying a vintage watch from a reputable dealer like himself, BUT without box & papers. I am asking because if I buy a vintage watch and then go to sell it without the box & papers, would I get stuck with the watch or have to sell it at a steep discount? How should I protect my purchase or how does Eric protect his customers buying vintage without box & papers?
It’s good to think that my CFB Manero Heritage chronograph with the annual calendar will at least have some price support in the future. You can’t get the build quality and functionality for anywhere near the price. Oh and I didn’t pay list price. 😊
John, I would love to see you do a video on Carl F. Bucherer and Parmigiani Fleurier. Are they & why are they true collector brands or is it only certain models? I recently bought a H. Moser from an AD after your partner in crime Federico sold me on the brand.
I watch all your videos and really enjoy them. This video presents a very favorable market outlook but other ’independent’ channels talk about a real softening of the market and even a somewhat worrisome future for the grey market. I guess Delray and Wind have a completely different take on the present market and see only extremely positive signals. Interesting!
@@JohnPWatches In the last few weeks The Timeless Watch Channel, Watch Wizard and Tim Write among others have been discussing the softening of the market. Even when following prices on Chrono24 you can see a leveling off of some prices e.g. Rolex sport models, Royal Oak, Nautilus, etc. Of course these hyped models are leveling off or decreasing from a very high price point but still, the increase of prices on some models seem to have ceased (or at least temporarily). Only time will tell if higher interest rates and the weakening of the global economy will further effect watch prices but I think a certain caution should be expressed compared to the optimism of a few months ago. Again, thanks for the great content.
@@Greg-pc5xx Greg, you make very good points. Another indicator on prices flattening is that the dealers at the most recent March IWJG show were not buying watches for inventory due to the steep prices at the show. The one counter argument to prices declining steeply is that the US government is spending and printing so much money that the value of the dollar keeps going lower and lower. Many watch buyers around the world are buying the popular sport steel models as a hedge against inflation. Prices have dipped in April after a steep run up to new highs in Q1 2022, but nobody knows with any accuracy if this market is experiencing a minor price correction, or the beginning of a real market reset. I do know that the fun of collecting watches is being sucked out of the balloon as investors/speculators have driven prices up well beyond what an average collector can afford.
@@dannysimenauer5745 I agree with you. Investors/speculators have made it hard for us collectors to afford these inflated prices. As I wrote earlier I appreciate John's videos but unfortunately it is sometimes hard to trust watch dealer UA-camr's analysis of the market. We shouldn't forget they are biased but I still enjoy their videos.
It's hard to quantify. Cartier is a pretty popular brand outside of the collector community. I'm sure it helps but I think there are also more casual buyers.
Seiko made a giant branding mistake by carrying the Seiko name into Grand Seiko. Toyota didn't name their Lexus line "Grand Toyota" because no one wants to spend $100K on a "Toyota". Seiko missed the boat completely by letting their ego get in the way.
If Grand Seiko would just kill Spring Drive then they would have the same recognition as Swiss brands. Anytime electronic components are added to a timepiece it completes water down a brand like Grand Seiko.
I'm guessing GS internal sales figures are telling a different story, Rocky. If no one wanted the Spring Drive they wouldn't keep churning out new models that utilize it.
@@scottstarr7212 yes, every Tom dick and harry is in the watch game since that douchebag Kevin O’Leary said Watches are asset class 🤦🏻♂️ Grand Seiko is just stepping stone from amateurs rocking a Seiko Presage. Once their eyes open to Swiss brands then it is too late to dump Grand Seiko and recoup their loss. It tanks like a Titanic especially the Spring Drive. They should just stick with Hi-beat automatic and manual wound timepieces.
I respect the dude’ s knowledge as he is one of the top watch guys in the business ; but my personal, opinion is that Cartier watches are ladies watches , they are not men’s watches and I would not wear one if I got one for free.

Scarcity plays a big role in desirability…
Rolex is already passé as you can only get it from dagos
glad to see CFB getting some love!......don't have one but always liked some of their models like the the manero flyback
