    Great few tips there Roger😎 Its always a bit easier, when clipping the hinges on,(when fitted to the door), to do the top one first, as it it 'hangs' there while you line up and click in the bottom one👍

    Who assembled the cabinet with the cam and dowel on the inside?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  3 роки тому +1

      I didn't want those stupid plastic plugs that cover the cams falling off the bottom. It is a utility room so having the cams on the inside it not an issue.

    Hinges I have are the old timer hinges. they don't look anything like these do. When they took the doors off to paint them etc. they didn't put them back on the same areas they took them from. So some don't close all the way, off center, leans too low or too high etc. They are a mess!

    Something to always check when someone asks you to level the doors on kitchen cupboards is, are the cupboards hung level? Number of times someone's been unhappy with the doors on cupboards, doesn't know how to adjust them themselves, so they call you around, take a level and run it across the top or bottom of the row of cupboards. You can adjust the doors on uneven cupboards to get them to look nearly right, but you'll always have uneven margins on the overhang of the door, to adjust the level of the cupboards themselves is usually just a case of adjusting the screws on the hangers in the top back corners of the cupboard.

    • @johnmackay7789
      @johnmackay7789 3 роки тому

      What kind of corner door is it, two separate ones or bifold? Either way if they have cabinet hinges then adjustment will be the same.

    Try hanging and adjusting the curved doors, loads of fun. The old joiner I worked with years ago fitting kitchens was eagle eyed, all the gaps and margins had to be identical and everything had to line through (as it should). Nothing worse being in a kitchen and everything’s wonky donkey 🐴

    Got a trick of the trade to stop the hinge fixing screws coming loose?

  • @tomsmith9048
    @tomsmith9048 3 роки тому

    Don't forget to put your locking screws in to secure your hinge once you've adjusted your height 🔨

  • @FlyingWingsOfIcarus

    This only works if the units are hung square... and no one's gonna use the adjustable hanging brackets to square off units that have already been screwed together and siliconed to the wall.

  • @flyingjackcarpentry9394
    @flyingjackcarpentry9394 3 роки тому

    One of my least favourite jobs.
    My old boss was convinced you could make them perfect even on crappy out of square units. He'd have me adjusting them for hours.
    It's worse nowadays as alot of units are cheaper if they have no blocking behind the hardwood backing. Obviously the customer is gunna choose the cheaper units as it makes sense.
    I had a run on wall units and all the 1000mm ones would sag in the middle and there wasn't much I could do about it and it irked me no end and pissed the customer off coz I couldn't keep the horizontal door margins between the cornice and pelmet bang on.
    I now always recommend spending more on the larger units.

    Bit of a sad cabinet. But …. If only I could remember which way to turn for in and out. And there is the mystery of why the doors shift when all they do is open and close. Thanks for the video.

    • @madgebishop5409
      @madgebishop5409 3 роки тому

      usually because the cabinets are just crappy particle board which over time the screws wobble and widen the holes thus causing the hinges to move around

    Doesn't wonky mean loose, wobbly, and unstable?
    These seem firmly attached; just are out of adjustment.

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  3 роки тому +1

      You are right, and everyone loves a pedant, but we tend to try and work out what terms people are searching for and 'wonky' scores more than 'out of adjustment'.

      That is quite funny. I was sitting in a diner in New Jersey some years ago talking to my English friend and the lady clearing tables came up and asked what language we were speaking. We told her it was English and she said she could make out the odd word.
      It is often the phrasing and tempo that makes other dialects hard to understand. English people have great difficulty understanding eachother when they move around this tiny country.
