- People told us not to visit China, but we did anyway! So we are back exploring more of the most modern city in China, Shenzhen! Today we start off with a delicious Cantonese breakfast feast before heading back out into the cool city of Shenzen, China's most futuristic city!
We explore the Shenzhen Bay, the very popular Shenzhen OTC area, get some incredible city skyline views, before heading over to a dark and scary park where we can watch the entire city skyline light up for the Shenzen city light show! What a crazy cool place there was so much to see and so many cool modern things to check out! There's still even more to explore so we hope you enjoy the China Vlog series!

Lots of foreigners first time in China. They're surprised how safe, friendly, delicious food, culture, transportation, many automobiles electric, street very quiet, clean roads or streets, not crowded, lots of parks very green and phone payments every part of city. Most of them say futuristic cities and everything automation.Even women can go out late at night without fear of being robbed or shot.I would even be bold enough to say that the major cities in China are now overall cleaner looking than the major cities in the US.The China described by the Western media is completely different from the real China you see.Recently, the US House of Representatives passed a bill to ban TIKTOK. Because TIKTOK belongs to China.

The police are here to keep order since there are so many people that a stampede could easily occur. There are also Chinese audio instructions on which aisle to go if you want to see the light show. Some subway entrances have also been changed to allow only exit but no entry.
how often does the light show happen?
Generally speaking, it is likely to be 19:30, 20:30, and 21:30 on weekends and holidays. The time can be checked on the WeChat official account of the shenzhen government.

Light up three times a day for about 15 minutes each time. The lighting time in winter and spring (November to March of the following year) is 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00. And all thanks to the very short history of Shenzhen. It extremely new, and extremely rich, so the development of the city was up to date, up to trend, very fitting to modern city plan theory. Whereas in Guangzhou, as well as basically every major city in China and they all have thousands of years of history, too many enlisted architectures, old roads to be protected, so there will always be lots of history there, whereas Shenzhen can just go ahead and be the future

Shenzhen is the home of Huawei, BYD, DJL, Tencent and many other tech giants. It’s even more impressive that it was just a small unknown village 40 yrs ago.

The region had 300k population before it became a SEZ, and Bao'an county was part of the train network since late Qing dynasty, it also served as a gateway between Hong Kong and in-land regions of China since then. Food in Guangzhou, Guangdong, The food in China is very famous. There are eight major cuisines in China, and Cantonese cuisine is one of them.
The typical combo for dipping dough sticks (you tiao) in is soymilk (dou jiang). It’s like dipping croissants in coffee

We Hongkongers now love to spend our weekends in Shenzhen because it is really a cool place. Wide variety of food, shopping is fun, lots of parks to relax, service is good and most important everything is ao cheap ( much cheaper than in Hongkong). And Shenzhen is such a vast city that you can go there lots of times and not get bored.
After watching this video, I really want to visit Shenzhen one day. Looks so cool & fun 😍

You guys should have ripped the you tiao (fried dough stick) and added to the congee. Also you don't just order congee by itself usally you have sides with it, like pickled vegetables, different types of eggs ( century eggs, tea eggs or fivespices eggs)
i eat my congee with fermented tofu, similar to japanese miso, but that might be too intense for first timers haha.
Congee usually comes with additional condiments, such as soy sauce, chives, sesame oil and salted radishes for additional flavor.

when ever you order food in an Asian country, you should ask the waitress the best way to enjoy the food, because many dishes come with condiments. Either dipping it in the sauce or mixing it in the dish.

The reason why most of the subway machines have stopped is because very few people in Shenzhen now use them, and they basically use their mobile phones to enter the station directly. Guangzhou is a city with a large number of elderly people, so it still retains most of the traditional ways～

The water is brown probably because the sand at the bottom is brown. In PEI Canada the water is red because the sand / soil is red.
Very true, in fact, most sea shore in China is brown, coz the continent shelf usually extends long into the shore, making the shore shallow and muddy. But if you go further west from the bay in the vid, there will be the only massive and continuous clear and beachy sea line in mainland China, a part of it is natually covered with silver coloured sand
you should check the seaworld-shekou area in shenzhen. there're lots foreigners, bars, fancy restaurants.

the reason that the congee in the beginning is so light flavored is that most of the other dishes have strong flavour so this can be a balance

we eat congee when we want something plain with less flavor, like for breakfast or when we have bad stomach or hangover. That’s why it doesn’t have much flavor. It’s a comforting food.

The right term is 'braised' fish. Boiled usually means just water boiling

It should be in a Yunnan restaurant. But you could be right, I could be wrong, or there could be a different cooking method. I'll try it again next time I'm in China to confirm.

If that was the case, do you remember if there were lots of red pepper and Sichuan peppercorn floating on the 'water'? If so, it is water boil fish, however, that's actually not water, it's veg oil, the whole pot. But the clay pot shown in the video is definitely not that one, it should be a very brown broth/sauce in it, so it's braised, the way like most Chinese fish dish which are normally cooked or presented in a big pot or bowl.

Your view of that clump of buildings in HK is probably Tin Shui Wah town. It's one of several clumps of residential "new towns" in HK. The Wetlands Park is there which is quite nice but that's about it.

I absolutely love, love congee. It's more of a porridge than soup. It doesn't fill me up for long as I get hungry not long after since it's mostly water. When a Chinese person gets sick, his family will often make him congee since it is easy to eat. It's not meant to be spicy or extra flavourful.

You over estimated the value and prestige of foreign tourists to China. Sure, it welcomes foreign tourists as much as possible but it does not bend its rules just to please foreigners. In other words, the police won't and need not be told to let the tourists film anything they like.
The fact is the vast majority of Chinese are so numb to being filmed and don't really care as long as you exercise basic courtesy and respect common space.
If you were to go to sensitive areas like customs and security checks areas in airports or some military sensitive areas, no one would allow you to film even if you are a foreign tourist.
Hope you can check out all the cool IT features of Shenzhen like ordering food and have it delivered via drones or driverless taxis and buses etc.

The popcorn machine did not have enough stock, so they were making more. It says, the regular order waiting time is 1m, but the stock replenishment time 20m. So I think your popcorn would have been ready in 20m.
I saw the self-delivery truck and street cleaning machine up and down on the street of Suzhou, it also talks to the people while moving. Guangzhou has some of those too. Have you seen them?

The green line was closed early because there is a new line under construction that needs to be connected to which subway station you want to take. The government posted notices on the subway well in advance this month. I'm sorry that this happened to you.

The first 3days of new year street will be empty, especially the big cities, employees are back to their hometown. Chain shops and mall will not closed, most people will back after 6th, and the city will crowded again.😊

48:41 The Civic Center is blocked because you have to make an online reservation to get in on the night of the light show, in case there are too many people in the best viewing area, and the police in China are very friendly and probably just don't want to disturb you. If you eat congee every morning, you DON'T want it to be too flavorful. It is supposed to be mild and filling, to make up your body with some energy, so to speak.
Also, people put their dough stick in the congee. Try it.

you can ask for condiments like soy/chili sauce etc... some of the steamed dim sum is better dipped in soy and/or chili sauce imo. next time try the steamed pork dumplings, siu mai. they are as popular as the shrimp ones you got a few times. clay pot rice is good because when they cook the rice in the clay pot, it becomes crispy on the edges which some consider the best part.
why aren't condiments left on the tables? is it common that you have to ask for them?
@@oxoelfoxo varies depending on restaurant. some have on tables, some in small drawers just under the table, some you have to ask. even at many dim sum places in the usa you have to ask. I know a lot of people like the pure taste without dipping sauces, but personally steamed dim sum or any kind of dumplings tastes 10x better with some kind of soy/chili paste/chili oil dipping sauce.
