    Your channel got recommended at the right time for me. I saw this gen 4 4tb model for basically the same price as the gen 3 version, and have been considering it as my big game library, it will only be going in a gen 3 slot, but considering its only around £10/20 more for me, i might as well go gen 4, in case i get a mobo with more gen 4 slots. Considering it is half the price of other gen 4 drives at the 4tb capacity, its good to know that it still performs well enough that it will be perfect as a game drive.

    I just bought the p3 plus 1TB for £42 and the samsung 980 pro that my mate bought the month before was more than double the price. For the price this is an excellent piece of kit and well worth the money, also the speeds for the p3 and p5 tend to above the stated speeds so you know your getting your moneys worth.

    wait, you are testing all of these on a PCIe Gen 5 system? I would love to see the exact same drives all tested on a Gen 3 system. To really determine where higher gen drives make sense for a lower gen system. I imagine mostly the not so important sequential speeds are cut down by lower gen systems, but better performance, IOPS, etc will still shine through.

But then when I checked the price difference for 2TB, it was only $4.23. Its interesting why they would keep such a price difference between two models, what makes sense is that they want their P5 Plus market to be larger, obviously for 2TB I suppose.

    Update for US consumers:
    Right now on "budget" for say a 2TB you can go with the P3 Plus for $109, an SN770 for $124 or a 980pro for $158.
    The SN770 did not sustain PS5 spec read speeds in this videos' test, so for games like Ratchet and Clank, probably not the best.
    So if you want to Run Ratchet & Clank on PC with PS5 quality you can save 54$ or spend the 54 and get the DRAM cache the 980 offers. So as a secondary drive to store games the choice you face is should I pay 54 more USD for DRAM cache? There you go.
    EDIT: Techtesters can you make a comparison between the 980 Pro and the P3 Plus in the Ratchet and Clank in the infamous rift sequence loading?

    Grabbed a P3 Plus for my blade 14 2021 as it’s single sided and performs at the max the blade can do. Crazy thing is it was only £10 more than the 4TB P3 I grabbed but that has gone in Mac Pro 2013 so speeds aren’t really important.

      I'm looking to buy the P3 4TB - it costs around 200GBP, where I live, and P3 Plus 4TB costs 240GBP. I've got a Legion 7 2021(PCI gen 3), and only one PCIe slot can accept a double sided SSD. That 4TB P3 is double sided or single sided(as the P3 Plus you bought)?

Turns out it was the NVMe adapter I was using which weirdly couldn’t handle the 4TB drives but was fine with 2TB! Save that £40 towards another P3 in the future! I’ve got a similar setup in RAID in my X17R1 with 2TB WD blue drives. I think like you long term I’ll swap out for 2 P3 drives for 8TB. Thermals seem decent too on the P3.

Better just spend bit extra and get these newer ones, even if you have PCIE 3.0 system cause you will eventually upgrade and then you'll be happy you invested slightly more before as performance will scale up with your upgrade.

      True , it depends on the region... Here in India 980 Pro costs double to the P5 Plus
      500gb 980 pro = 1 TB P5 plus ~ 750gb SN850.... Crucial P5 Plus is a no brainer choice but I Agree n Strongly Support your statement @Teemu Vesala , We Should Always Spend More for Future proofing , just make sure it reasonable

      @@r_turner Here on German Amazon 980 Pro was just on sale for 208 euros for 2TB version. Things don't get much cheaper from that... P5 Plus is regularly 220 euros for 2TB, on sale was 180 euros for 2TB. WD Blue SN570 2TB is 180 euros just on sale. So you see no point buying these budget drives here. P5 Plus is not really a budget drive either, its high end gen 4 NVME just like 980 Pro is. I just prefer Samsung over Crucial in general, although Crucial is good brand too (Micron owned).

      @@frightenwanderer7444 Well in regular use you wouldn't notice the difference much or at all I guess. I would personally still get a drive with built-in DRAM cache as your main drive where you can install your OS and apps. P3 is a great secondary SSD drive for storing your games on for instance.

    Just discovered this channel. I was thinking how good it is and wondering how I could've missed it, but then I watch this review and there's no mention of the absolutely abysmal native performance once the cache is full (< 100MB/s), which is _the_ major drawback with this model (same as the even cheaper P3). Bummer :/ The SN570's performance doesn't tank even remotely as much with direct writes (though it does tank a LOT faster), yet there was a word about it in its review. I haven't watched a lot from this channel yet, and this video isn't too recent either so maybe things have changed since then, but I think SSD reviews would be even better if they included systematic testing of cache size (static or dynamic), cache recovery time and direct write performance. I mean, the ones I've watched seemed pretty thorough but this one's lacking crucial information (no pun intended) so idk...

    • @GrandHighGamer
      @GrandHighGamer Рік тому

      It's a worthy consideration, but most PC users won't be writing 400+GB at a time. So outside of video editing etc where there's a lot of writes (and honestly at that point the low endurance is probably also a killing drawback) you're only likely to see issues there if you're transferring the contents over from another drive. That kind of stuff should be mentioned though, since it's pertinent to the same users that the TBW is.

    • @yumeN0dengon
      @yumeN0dengon Рік тому

      @@GrandHighGamer Yes, most users probably won't have to deal with the degraded performance, but the cache is only 1/4 of the free space so it's going to shrink as the drive fills up, and 200GB+ transfers are not that uncommon in the age of Blu-rays I think. Definitely worth mentioning anyway, as you said at least for the fraction of users that do routinely transfer very large amounts of data.

      @@silverplayer7502 The performance drop only occurs during sustained sequential writes involving very large amounts of data, so it won't impact gaming performance. If you already have many large games to move to the drive, the transfer may become really slow after the first ~400GB. Once you've moved the data to the drive, you shouldn't face that issue again, or fairly rarely.

Having a gamer laptop like that, it would be better to buy an intermediate-level storage solution like any of those mentioned in the benchmarks, rather than buying a cheap-a** SSD like Greens and Ecos. Those are for newcomers and unadvised people with no tech-knowledge whatsoever. You'll be better buying proven SSDs in this channel (even when DRAM-less too), instead of cheaping-out with really low budget models.
      Just don't buy something like m.2 nvme 990 pro from Samsung, or SATA 870 EVOs. They go bad after weeks or months of use, and there are many Web articles on the subject.

    Hi Nada! I have one of these p3plus drives as a cache drive in my very specific purpose pc its very slow reading only getting around 200mb/s 4.30-5min with big encrypted files of 56gb which are loaded up into ram... I put a samsung 860 sata ssd in and its twice as quick loading in around 2min 480mb/s for the same 56gb encrypted cache file. What would you suggest i swap to? the samsung 990pro w/o heatsink $179 (will put it into the top spot with heatsink or Seagate 530 $159 with heatsink?? or: ?? My local store is PLE needs to be 1tb in size and capable of a lot better load times. this "availability" to change parts as it suits them is low key redflag.
    It means that if they get filed a law suit for deceiving the consumers, they can't be liable as they did not put the exact specs. If they will swap parts.
    It reminds me of the Kingston SSD debacle years back where they sent their SSD to be reviewed by youtubers.
    But those review samples had different parts that made it run faster. Ofcourse those parts are more expensive.
    Then Kingston proceeded to sell the same SSD, same branding, same name to the mainstream consumers and they were slower than the same branded review sample.
