You only really need the first 2 commands and ofcourse the last one. Everything else is simply to back up the present broken BCD. Which begs the question - why backup the broken BCD? Anyway this worked for me. Thanks MDTech.

Ok it's working now!!! :) New SSD disc in my laptop :) it's so fast now, only few seconds and win 7 is up :) I had a problem with mbr after clone. Tried so many different thing, even my recovery disc didn't started. But here in this video I found that what I need, so happy now :) So I started from boot win7 pendrive and the rest exactly like in the video, it works, COOL, thanks man. :)

Hard drive after i did your method then easily windows booted up

Reboots into windows boot manager loop..windows failed to start..file: \boot\bcd .the windows boot configuration data file does not contain a valid OS entry. It needs to be explained what is the meaning for adding those attributes. I think I should have stopped after the fix mbr command and fix boot.

Trying to restore failed HDD from backup image created in driveimage xml. I've used this exact backup and version of driveimage xml previously and had success. This time I cannot get the restored disk to boot. In cmd running from my win 7 recover disk (which I used the last time this happened) running bootrec /fixmbr "operation completed successfully". Running bootrec /fixboot and I get "element not found". Running bootrec /rebuildbcd I get the option to press y for my windows installation found but I get "element not found". I'm baffled here. Any ideas? Other than the physical HDD nothing is different between this time and the last time I had to replace the HDD with the exception of why. Last time was to upgrade to a larger disk. This time I am replacing due to failed controller board.

My main hard drive died, I disconnected it and connected a different one as the main drive, I did a clean, format, and clean install of windows 7 on my drive. I partitioned it into three partitions since this drive is a terrabyte large. Then I tried to update with windows 10, and it gave me an error saying my windows/system32/ntoskrnl.exe is either missing or corrupt and would not let me exit with the options of f8 or to try again...I know it probably has something to do with the master boot, but it does boot up fine to windows and I checked the bios since I did that first before installing the windows 7 OS, and that looks fine in the bios so it is not that...some suggested it was the keyboard, but I tried that, still wouldn't boot up Windows 10, still gave me the same error. Would doing this in the boot fix that or do I need to do something else to get it to boot up the windows installation disk?

Are you sure your drive label for your primary disk is "C"? Could be a different letter OR you are spelling part of the command wrong.

This won't work if it is a GPT disk instead of MBR. Could be why some are having problems.
