      The ring is pretty cheap, at 25-35 USD, but holy crap the actual filter is expensive.
      The only time I use a variable ND is for waterfalls. Where it is pretty darn useful, but a regular one is good enough for me. I occasional use a circular polarizer. But I can't think of a need where I would want to have both on the camera at the same time.

    • @shiznuts
      @shiznuts 4 роки тому +1

      yeah, I'd rather use me own filters.
      However... back when I built my set I decided 77mm was about as much I'd need and everything since has been of that standard.
      But... non of these adapters are native to 77mm. Which imho is a bit of a fail as I think a lot of folks are in my situation having picked 77mm.

BUT something I don’t like about filters and I had a question on, its hard to get a lens hood over a filter if at all so if you have an ND and you are out in bright sun light, dust is pretty attracted to the filter, then you have no shade from the sun and boom you see ugly specs of dust and sometimes odd sun flare on the lens.

    There's issue with cheap vari ND filters - they show the cross at longer focal length than normal filters. You can't shoot at 50 mm with filter closed mare than half the way to the max. On wider they are barely even have effect before they show the cross.
