    Excellent, just perfect. So sad Chris is gone. I have been a fan of Yes since the seventies and to see you play this has made me appreciate much more what Squire put in to this work. Thanks for putting this out. It was great!

    This music will never be surpassed. I’ve been listening to this album for over 40 years and it still amazes me with its complexity and timelessness. That’s a beautiful bass, and very well played! Don’t ever quit your study of great music and the bass guitar. Well done!

    AndreaIt absolutely warms my heart to see a young man who was born so many years after Close to the Edge was released, play a composition that requires attention to detail and style done by a master. You've got all of the attack nuances down to a tee and understand Chris Squire's style intimately. I was probably about your age or slightly younger when Yes released this album. I am now 58 years old. I remember getting it as Christmas gift from a high school friend. We put the album on and 6 minutes into the song Close to the Edge I was transfixed and by the end of And You and I was transformed forever by this album. It truly changed my life musically. I certainly heard Yes before and was already a fan but this was a cathartic moment. I still get chills al through-out this album even when I listen to it all these many, many years later.You are gifted young man and I happy for you and happy to hear that there are those much younger than a lot of us who still appreciate and understand good music and why it's made and always remembered.One quick question, do you down load the sheet music to learn Squire's bass line in "The Solid Time of Change"? I never tried to play the track before on my bass but I always just assumed it was basically a 2 bar 6/4 pattern repeated over and over again. I downloaded the sheet music and was astounded by all the chromatic finger gymnastics that really were involved.sincerely Dougs

      +Douglas Fix thank you Douglas, the reason why I post videos of myself playing is to entertain you all and to be so overwhelmed when such nice comments come my way! I'm really flattered and also fascinated invisioning yourself listening to the album and being forever changed when it came out.
      With regards to the sheet, no I didn't, all I did was slowing down the track on VLC and try to match note per note the ostinato on "the solid time of change". Certainly something you wouldn't have been able to do in the 70s!

    • @douglasfix1185
      @douglasfix1185 8 років тому +9

      ..well that still took time and diligence to do that. Yes, in the '70's vinyl days of lore, the best I could do sometimes was to slow the 33-1/3 down to 16 rpms which made Chris Squire's bass sound like some giant Tyrannosaurus Rex rubber band from hell; which was usually followed by one of my parents (usually my father) opening my bedroom door and going "Doug, turn that damn thing down or off!!"

    • @davidhughes4448
      @davidhughes4448 Рік тому

      @@blueberryurl Blueberry and Douglas: Great playing, sir. Really great. Bear in mind some of us were able to cop the Solid Time of Change bass line at a full 33 1/3 RPM just using our ears back in 1972. That's all we had. And we walked to school barefoot everyday in the snow, uphill both directions. (I'm 68 now and still playing both my Rickenbacker 4001 and my 5-string Pedulla.) I was 16 when Close to the Edge was released (9/8/72), with my 4001 in-hand. At that point I had all of Fragile tucked under my belt... he uttered modestly. Now, I have arthritis in my right thumb to the extent I can no longer hold a pick very well. Kinda sad and frustrating. Carry onward, sirs.

THE CS's sound,if you need un upgrade, get the malekko b-ass master fuzz,( a brassmaster maestro replica, the one used by Chris) then with the rock-o-sound send 1 signal to a clean ch; and the other one thru the fuzz pedal, you gonna love it!! anyway the sound you get is AMAZING, congratulations again, sansamp is GREAT.
