It's awesome to see devs have fun in their own game, it's rare to see so much passion in a project they play it and try to interact with the community so much
Another game where the devs have fun in it is h3vr it’s a single dev and has one of the most realistic gun physics in vr gaming
Hyce, how you were able to talk with Kan, while performing all those actions (Wye, Tender derail) was quite an impressive display of multi-tasking.

So... this story about D&RG 491... You have my undivided attention.
Honestly, I love hearing about old railroad stories and instances of absolute hilarity or utter chaos. One of the best stories I've actually heard of, and probably so has everyone else, is the Crazy 8s. That and the Great Railroad Chase during the Civil War and the incident at the first ever bridge crossing the Mississippi River.
Also, heard about another locomotive you might find awesome. The Soviet AA20-1, a MASSIVE 4-14-4 (2-7-2 Russian Config) locomotive that was more useful as propaganda than an actual engine because it was so big and so heavy it literally flattened rails and switches it ran over leading to many derailments.
The crazy 8's is hilarious. Also yeah the 4-14-4's are a bit nuts. Very Russian... Lol

I don't even really play games, like at all.
I'm just fascinated by mechanical engineering, especially of older steam trains and jets. Honestly I've been blown away by the beauty along with the amount of detail and accuracy yall have put into this game! It's always very clear when people are passionate about what they are working on.
I really wish I had a huge shop and land, because as crazy as it sounds I'd love to build even a little steam powered vehicle. I worked at a boiler company for 3 1/2 years welding. It was so cool to learn how steam power plants work, from paper mills to nuclear power plants. Doing welds that get x-ray'd is very nerve racking at first. Especially when you learn paper mills can explode if welds fail in certain spots lol.
Can't imagine how awesome it was to actually operate that steam train you have talked about!
Oh yeah dude. The mechanical engineering that goes into some of this stuff is just so freaking cool. I bet that was a cool gig!

Whistle signals activated with just a button on the gui would be awesome
Those with keen ear could learn to do them manually over time.
Maybe the whistle could be used to activate loaders and switches.
I dont know if there are any authentic signals for either but its just a thought.
Neat idea, but every railroad had different rules so if we had pre-selected ones someone wouldn't like it. Haha. Activation of loaders and switches just gets weird for multiplayer, though something like that would be cool.

As a Coloradan, having a game that draws a lot from the state is amazing. I've had the game for a month or two now, and had no clue how much is drawn from my state. Love it

My grandads last year with the railroad before retiring was has a switchman. He set in a shack outside of town and switch the line when needed for 10 hours a day. It was most boring job ever according to him. It was common back then to give the old timers that job so they could have it easy before retiring and they were more stable and less likely to be drunk on the job. Though it was boring, it was an easy job.

NPC's that are at the stations. You click on the character and he loads the cars when you have them in the right place. That would be cool and make the game look populated.

The watchmaking industry was greatly influenced by early locomotive industries needing accurate time pieces that were small enough to fit in a pocket and not be affected by being jostled around.
Oh that's neat! I knew railroads had dedicated railroad-spec pocket watches (I have one :D) but I didn't realize how closely tied they were with the industry!

hey hyce, kAN asked about spring switches, but are there plans for 3-way switches? Because it looks like there's a little hole thing in the middle of the sideway moving bit. (Idk any train terms sry)
No worries! Yes, we are going to do 3 way switches. The switch stand we have modeled is called a harp switch stand, and it does indeed have a notch for a third route. Cheers :)
Hyce I would love to see a real world use of that type of car once you can release pics or video footage of that car in IRL use

You can see the track over-laps where the tender derailed at the sawmill. I have noticed that issue a lot since the physics update. It seems like track connectections change every time a game is loaded. Track that is not connected perfectly when it was layed will "migrate" each time a save game is loaded. Some times the connection is fine, but the next time the game is loaded, that connection may be in a slightly different spot and cause issues. I had that isse atthe iron mine. I had to go through ad re do all my track to make sure ecvery piece connected just right. Empty hoppers were literally jumping off the track.
What is up with the floating train pieces? I have seen that in several videos but never in my game. Is that a multiplayer issue, or just a random thing?
Huh, that's interesting. We'll have to look into that. And yeah, the floating bits are the current multiplayer issue we're looking into.

How would grande crossings work? I tried using ground work but it didn't work, and I made sure to leave enough flange space.
We're going to need a "roadway" or path spline, or a crossing panel asset. We'll get there :)

Hyce this is awesome. So I dont know if you have been down to Elbe but the gear loco got a paint job and the light is on at night. I was wondering if that is a standard guage or narrow.
Haven't been down to Elbe in a good 4-5 years at least, but that's cool to hear. Everything down that way is standard gauge.

I know you said no tunnels, but there are tunnels used in 14 tunnels in Maine, 2 on the Cumbers and Toltec. If I remember right there is only one on the Rio Grande.
In the video we talk about the 2 C&TS tunnels, which are both originally Rio grande. They're not coming to the game any time soon - just a massive challenge to make work with how our terrain works.
Would like to say there is a bug where the servers all say 9,999 ping.
Also, how bout an actual Y switch? Then the "Y" at the sawmill Will actually use a Y switch. It just would be cool.
I know the era is off but maybe a variant of like a Berkshire Locomotive (see narrow gauge precursors of the Pre Marquette if any)?
In short, I love this game and the track needs a bit of work.
Yup, we're aware of the ping bug. More switches in plan. No berks, there just really weren't any for the narrow gauge. Check my tech tree video for more ;)

Watching this one after kAN's perspective, noticing at 4:20 you guys got \*so close\* to correcting the miscommunication with the loading ratio before it became an issue, only for kAN to get distracted by his boiler pressure!
Right! It was so funny that we even started to talk through it and I still goofed it up :P

3 ways yes, curved ones maybe... We'll see.
One more thing Hyce, before there are abutments, can Peyton model a curved conclusion to the regular fill groundwork, so that it doesn't just end flat...Edit: OR I've ended ground work at a 10 degrees angle into the ground, maybe just allow use to place groundwork at a 45 degree angle to conclude it realistically?

Hello Hyce. You know, if you could when I get back on, I could use some of yours and Peyton's help trying to get my rails smoothed out. I have attempted some rail fixing and it seemed to work, but once I get bigger and bigger locos (via, from your tech tree when that tree is in the game) the tracks might need to be more gradual, due to the physics at play. Also, I actually have met one of your other devs named bruss. Him and I met a while back before this game was a thing. Him and I were normal FC&N players/train builders. But now that this game is constantly being updated, which I love, I now know or knew he became a dev of the game. Sorry for this, uhh, monologue.

It's not quite as easy as "dropping into UE5", but I agree, that would be very cool. We just barely got into UE4, lol! We'll see.

@@kinkusdudeus I appreciate your tenacity, but you're forgetting the code we've written over the top of UE4, the cut UE takes for us using their engine... it's more complicated than just dropping things in. I know folks want cuts and tunnels - but it's not just snapping fingers. Thanks :)

No consoles, and the tech tree is pretty finalized at this point. Who knows what steam workshop may bring.

And unloading annimation from bottom and diffrente from other onject for more reality
And diffrent color option for wagons like dark blue, drak green ,dark yellow
And abbilty for changing name and number of cars after buying and fix that after buying cars and loco not coming back to game and fix crane very boring for loading onject such tool box eith one crane and one box every time (every car32box)
And add Writable sign for puting it on side of track
And add snow on top mountain
And add diffrent tree
And add speedometer in control and informatin

Why do the rails in the game have no distance for thermal expansion?
Lots of questions! Let me see if I can answer them.
Grate under rails for unloading coal/iron: Maybe, we don't really have a good unloading system as-is, though that might change when we get more accurate hopper cars that do unload from the bottom.
Color options: Wait for Steam Workshop - we're going to focus on historical options for now.
Change name and number - This is in plan for when we get more detailed engine houses, roundhouses, and car shops where you can do maintenance and other work.
Cranes: we have plans for upgradeable cranes which will either change speed, number of items loaded, or allow for a queue, etc.
Signs: Yup, in plan, they're even in this video.
Speedometer: The real thing didn't have them, so we're on the fence
Coal will be a fuel.
No distance for thermal expansion because it makes the physics better and you don't notice when you're in the cab ;)

@@jacobramsey7624 at some point yes, we have more detailed collision models but they caused so many problems that we had to reduce them for the time being. It takes a lot of work to get them to feel and play right without causing issues so not sure when we'll see them.

Not sure! I'd have to guess its the multiplayer aspect in a train game. Very few have tried to do that outside of a hardcore simulator and this game fits a good niche i think.
