The Grassmarket is a historic market place, street and event space in the Old Town of Edinburgh, Scotland. In relation to the rest of the city it lies in a hollow, well below surrounding ground levels.
The Grassmarket is located directly below Edinburgh Castle and forms part of one of the main east-west vehicle arteries through the city centre. It adjoins the Cowgatehead/Cowgate and Candlemaker Row at the east end, the West Bow (the lower end of Victoria Street) in the north-east corner, King's Stables Road to the north-west, and the West Port to the west. Leading off from the south-west corner is the Vennel, on the east side of which can still be seen some of the best surviving parts of the Flodden and Telfer town walls.

The view to the north, dominated by the castle, has long been a favourite subject of painters and photographers, making it one of the iconic views of the city.
The history of Victoria Street
Victoria Street, a picturesque and winding cobblestone lane, is one of Edinburgh’s most iconic thoroughfares. Prior to its construction, access from the Grassmarket to the Lawnmarket was via the West Bow, a very steeply sloped and narrow lane. The new street was planned to demolish much of the old West Bow, and provide a broad sweeping link to the newly built George IV Bridge.
Cultural significance
Victoria Street, a picturesque and winding cobblestone lane, is one of Edinburgh’s most iconic thoroughfares. Named after Queen Victoria, it exudes a timeless charm that resonates with both locals and visitors. With its colourful facades and unique shops, this street showcases Edinburgh’s architectural diversity and historical legacy.
The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument to Scottish author Sir Walter Scott. It is the second-largest monument to a writer in the world after the José Martí monument in Havana. It stands in Princes Street Gardens in Edinburgh, opposite the former Jenners building on Princes Street and near Edinburgh Waverley Railway Station, which is named after Scott's Waverley novels.
Design and concept
The tower is 200 feet 6 inches (61.11 m) high and has viewing platforms reached by a series of spiral staircases giving panoramic views of central Edinburgh and its surroundings. The highest platform is reached by a total of 287 steps.It is built from Binny sandstone quarried near Ecclesmachan in West Lothian.
The National (formerly the Scottish National Gallery) is the national art gallery of Scotland. It is located on The Mound in central Edinburgh, close to Princes Street. The building was designed in a neoclassical style by William Henry Playfair, and first opened to the public in 1859.
The gallery houses Scotland's national collection of fine art, spanning Scottish and international art from the beginning of the Renaissance up to the start of the 20th century.
The National is run by National Galleries Scotland, a public body that also owns the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Because of its architectural similarity, the National is frequently confused by visitors with the neighbouring Royal Scottish Academy Building (RSA), a separate institution which works closely with the National
It is placed on axis with South St. David Street, one of the two streets leading off St. Andrew Square to Princes Street, and is a focal point within that vista, its scale being large enough to screen the Old Town behind. Its size and elevated position cause it to dominate the eastern section of the Princes Street Gardens.

Witam Jarku cieplutko ja do tego filmu nie bede dawała obszernego komentarza bo to co miałam napisać o tym.miescie napisałam poprzeddnio ,natomiast myśle ,ze te dwa cytaty uzupelnią moje mysli .
Kolejna cześć naszego spaceru po tym miescie przepelnionym historią ,naznaczonego również literackim dziedzictwem (bo tworzyli tu swoje powieści i pisali wiersze wielcy ) bo to miasto ,jego położenie ,otoczenie jak również architekrura jest inspiracja dla wszelkiego rodzaju artystów .Miasto tylgiel przepelnione tajemnicą ,zapachami i tętniące muzyką .To byl kolejny przepiękny spscer który mnie osobiście dostarczył bardzo wielu wzruszeń ale też zadziwiał i zaskakiwał i właśnie to jest piękne ,że spacery mnie uczą rozumieć i poznawać miejsca w których nie dane mi było być .Oczywiscie to przedewszystkim zasługa Twoja Jarku za to ,że jeżdzisz w miejsca piękne i ciekawe ,poświecasz swój czas by nam to wszystko pokazać .Ja piprostu za to wszystko z całego serca dziękuje ...Ja ten film jak i poprzednie oglądam po kilka razy od początku do końca po to by mi nic nie umkneło mojej uwadze podczas tych spacerów .Pozdrawiam serdecznie i coeplutko i rownież do zobaczenia 🌞😊 Gdzieś tam na kolejnym spacerze .
