I spent 10 years in Edmonton, and a bit more in Calgary. Unless your career takes you to Edmonton (ie some trades pay a lot more there), Calgary is better. Better downtown. Better road system. Mountain get always. Cleaner. And, the winter is much milder. 8:40
I have lived in both - first Edmonton for over 20 years and then Calgary for 10 years. My mistake was not moving to Calgary sooner. Being an hour away from the mountains is a huge plus for hiking, for skiing or just for a drive. But there is much more to Calgary than that - better LRT, better airport access to the rest of the world, and closer to Vancouver. However, one thing that Edmonton has that is better than Calgary is the University of Alberta - rated 18th in North America compared to 58th for the University of Calgary. As it is, I am in California now for over 20 years, and while I miss being in Calgary in spring, summer and fall, I do not miss the winter and freezing almost all the time. There is no rust on my vehicle, have never plugged it in, and have never had to drive on snowy roads unless traveling to Lake Tahoe in winter or driving to Canada also in winter.
I’m moving from Edmonton to Calgary. My experience is Edmonton’s housing market is very slow and Calgary is very fast. Edmonton is a great family city for average income earners (40k-120k). You get newer homes and nicer looking suburbs because they have newly constructed amenities. My house in Edmonton is 2,400 square feet and new in a moderate new build neighbourhood for 650k. The house I’m moving into is 25 years old 1,800 square feet and 750k. Calgary is great for the mountains and professionals. If you are an average income family who wouldn’t use the mountains, Edmonton. If you are a high earning professional who likes the outdoors, Calgary. At the end of the day Oil and Agriculture run the province. Edmonton has the oil and gas services companies, Calgary is the headquarters for the oil producers. It’s very much a blue collar (Edmonton) and white collar (Calgary). Tech is re-locating to Calgary because of our low tax rate and better living conditions for employees vs Toronto and Vancouver.
I live in Edmonton, for s very long time I have been in Calgary, sorry but I prefer my city, and no were not blue collar wwere are a mixture of both, like calgary is. No different. As far as the maintains, I was born between ocean and mountains, so I don't care really.

@@learnerents2861 I think in my opinion is really good. There are many universities and colleges, such is the university of Alberta, grant macewan university, Concordia university, and much more. I’ve lived 2 years in Calgary and I have lived 1 years in Edmonton, I find Calgary a little bit better, better downtown, better outdoor life, etc etc. but from what I have seen Edmonton is a growing city, I like it here in Edmonton better, due to work, cheaper housing, and most of my family is here, I am in currently in the northwest area, Laurel/aster, but within the next 10-15 years, Edmonton will become a very developed good city, also I have lived 7 years in Surrey BC, also houses in Calgary are $200k to $250k more expensive than houses here in Edmonton, and Edmonton is not as bad as people say it is, I find winters in Calgary and in Edmonton to be very similar, if you have a good job and you can afford to live in Calgary, go for it, but if you have a normal job, and can’t afford to live in Calgary, Edmonton is a good place to live, depends on which neighborhood you live in though.
I have lived in both cities and prefer Edmonton. With our ring road system (not perfect) is pretty good. I also visit the river valley in numerous areas from Devon through to Fort Saskatchewan and it’s amazing. They are both good cities though. Calgary is always crazy windy. I lived in NW.
Edmonton public transit is horrible. Since the latest "update" it has turned all commutes from 20-30mins into ~1 hour commutes with transfers. We also have a bad meth problem and it shows in our transit.
Airdrie and Calgary don't have that much of a price difference for the same comparable product. Me and My wife purchased in North Calgary as the new Airdrie Communities were at the same price point or were even more in many instances.
Lived in both several years. Edmonton has way more snow and moisture Calgary dryer and sunnier I find edmontonians more friendly. Not much for lakes around Calgary but obviously mountains. Both have terrible politics lots more druggies in Edmonton now. Calgary getting worse trying to catch up
What about healthcare ? Is it the same or is one better ? And how do they compare to Toronto? This is another thing you have to consider. Especially people like me willing to move from Toronto for work. Please answer
If you're moving from the GTA or Lower Mainland and are considering either Calgary or Edmonton, then Calgary is the clear winner as the housing costs are more in Calgary than Edmonton, but are way lower in relative to the GTA or Lower Mainland. If you're moving from Winnipeg or Saskatchewan then Edmonton might be the better option as it's a much larger city than those two cities but the housing costs are much lower than Calgary. Calgary has the better scenery as its closer to the rocky mountains, Calgary Airport flys to much more major international destinations, Calgary weather is milder,...so if you can afford Calgary than I'd suggest Calgary over Edmonton.
Which city will be good to go in terms of part time jobs and accommodation for international students ? Can you mention a few ? And what about edmonton?
@@learnerents2861 Edmonton is cheaper for living so that will help a lot of international students budgeting their expenses. Calgary is the main airport in Alberta if you travel by plane a lot to international destinations than that is a large consideration as well. I know a UK couple that used to live in Edmonton that moved to Calgary because of the Airport due to the layovers to and from Calgary when connecting to Edmonton.
@@rsk248 I am more worried about part time jobs and accommodation as I am coming there as international students . So , I wonder which will be good among these two.
Calgary is still underrated. However gloomy days are passed. Hope they can keep working on job diversity and attracting businesses. What I can say from my experience, culture is changing significantly with younger and more educated people now if you just compare to a decade ago.

For me I absolutely have to have access to mountains & outdoor adventure in wilderness. Right now live in the lower mainland of BC, will never be able to afford to buy here. Maybe one day will go on a road trip & check out Calgary and nearby towns close to the mountains
I would say Edmonton has much more - remember, Calgary is at about 3800-4000 foot altitude vs Edmonton at about 2700 feet, and because of that altitude the air is thinner and cooler - something mosquitos don't like.
Okay sure Calgary is better. That is what you wanted to say. But there are many people who love Edmonton ❤️ Please don't make comparisons. There are still people who cannot buy house in Calgary due to increases.😢
Edmonton has better outcome for future climate change more water and less drought in future Calgary is going to have worse drought and water shortages and very little rentals. The glaciers supplying galgaries water are drying up We chose Edmonton
Both bad choices. The violence there is off the charts. I always get dirty looks and racist comments made towards me. And forget about public transit, it is an absolute nightmare. Cant wait to move home to Nova Scotia next year
