    I have to say Kudos to Deity for the many sound/mic tutorials they have produced. They are useful and though clearly Deity is brand promoting, it is not pushing sales.

    This is all excellent information from experienced professionals.
    From my experience I would advise any one trying these techniques not to attempt to manipulate male or female hair without the Hair and Makeup Dept. or the assistance of the subject. Even in factuals and news, a presenter can rightly go ape s*** if you just touch their hair. For female presenters where there is no help, I ask them to move their own hair for me, from one side to the other so I can run cables etc and not get their hair stuck in the tape etc. In dramas, if the hair is set, it will be very precisely set. Depending on the styling, you might get in early on, but your lav could be subject to hair products, heat and liquids, or just be in the way. As the guys here say, talk with and integrate with other departments. In my early days, I was putting a lav under a t shirt collar. Easy enough but I got told off by wardrobe for stretching the neckline. Particularly us men have a lot to learn about hair and clothing work in the filming process, so be humble and ask.
    Sometimes you have to work way before the actor is on set. Maybe you have to work during shooting, but even then you should have talked with other departments to prepare solutions or make them aware of what you hope/need to do.
    These videos are pure gold with priceless and time learned techniques. I learn stuff throughout.

    I've had great success micing the brim of hats. Normally put it off-center without issues because the mouth moves with the head. Necklaces are often problems because they tend to make too much noise to put the mic close to. I had a makeup artist glue the mic in the hairline. I don't know what glue it was but it worked great. She used 100% alcohol to dissolve the glue when we were done.

    • @DIYCameraGuy
      @DIYCameraGuy 4 роки тому +2

      The glue we used was Pros-aide and the remover is Isopropyl Myristate.

    Great episode, guys!!! Thank you Andrew, Kim, Todd, and Sophie!
    I'm currently spending way too much time in post, adjusting audio levels (that are beyond capability of a compressor), due to poor mic placement, loud automotive noises, etc. Excited to give some of these techniques a go.
    Liked, subbed, and rang the bell.

    Great stuff, but, I didn't quite get how the transmitter was hidden on the first one with the lav in the hair?
    Could you guys do a video dedicated to hiding the transmitter pack?
    P.S- I have the Deity S-Mic 2 and Deity Connect which are both great and i'll be using on a feature film next month! Thank you Deity Mics! Love your stuff

    • @DIYCameraGuy

      I've taped a transmitter to an actors back with skin tape. The actor was only wearing a pair of tighty whities and the transmitter was only on his back when he had dialogue in the scene. The transmitter was in a small cloth pouch and we used alcohol to soften the glue of the skin tape when we removed it.

    Why is a manufacturer running ads for other companies on its own social media? Is Deity that hard up for money?

    • @KyllandMusic
      @KyllandMusic 4 роки тому +2

      Hey Rory, all of the expendables and products mentioned in this video are things we use in the field every day. Companies like hideamic, Ursa straps, ktek, denecke, orca bags, etc are all friends of ours who make great stuff and listen when we give feedback . Mentioning them just feels natural when explaining what we do. Hope this was helpful !

      @@roryonabike5863 Hey Rory, The reason for it is UA-cam shares monetized videos more on its platform and in the suggested section than it does non-monetized videos. Makes sense since UA-cam shares content that it can profit from, and not sure content it doesn't make money from. By cutting UA-cam in on our content we can teach more people these skills.
