At 1:00 note that the weld on the bolt is not full length. This is where most failures occur. It you're carrying anything important just get the genuine Yakima racks from Tesla. In addition many cases of damage to the car itself are caused by differences in the rubber landing pads. Tesla will not warranty glass breakage or other damage when using 3rd party bars. This is not a place to save a few bucks. I carefully installed my Tesla bars myself but some people say that Tesla will install them for free as part of the purchase price. BTW, the genuine Tesla bars cost the same or less than any of the other bars that Yakima makes. I carry canoes for thousands of miles in all kinds of wind and weather. Don't cheap out on the bars.
@@BrianKehm It is. BTW, love your content and subscribed. The load doesn't have to be heavy. A light canoe or kayak can put tremendous stress on the rack system in a cross wind or at high speed. I've seen so many failures over the years with a variey of vehicles (in our canoe racing community). Your installation instructions are great. A torque wrench/screwdriver like the ones used on bicycles is a good idea too. Great instructions but my advice is to buy the real Tesla/Yakima bars.
I was curious how this was going to mount before I bought it. After seeing how it mounts it seems too sketchy and I’m definitely not gonna buy it. I’ll probably go with a hitch mounted box. Probably better for range anyways.

Looks Like a bad idea and poor design just waiting to crack your glass roof. Much better to have proper roof rails.
