    This means if we draw 100 amps from a 100 amp hour battery, it will not last an hour. So what does the 100 ah mean? Does it mean if we draw 1 ampers, it will last 100 hours? Abit confused

    • @kimtinal9353
      @kimtinal9353  4 роки тому +7

      Yes my friend, it would. For lead acid battery the more discharge current you draw the lest efficiency you got.

      KIM Tinal so what is the max efficiency we can get from these batteries? is it possible to use all of the 1200 Wh energy and get a 100% efficiency?

    • @kimtinal9353
      @kimtinal9353  4 роки тому +2

      I would be 1A or least discharge current to get 100% i guess. I only test for 5A the efficiency is up 58%

      most batteries have a minimum hour rating for example 100ah at 20 hours means in theory you can draw 5 amps for 20 hours but anything more than that and the math wont add up

    According to initial voltage (12.5), battery was very discharge and probably disconnected for more than 6 months, that impacts the battery capacity, you should charge @14.4VDc for 24 hrs then let it float at 13.6 for 3 days before you can perform the capacity test. Thanks for sharing video, very interesting way to load a battery.

    76A is too-too much for that battery. The writing on the side says 100Ah/20Hours which means max 100/20=5A discharge for 20 hours long (equals 12V*5A=60W max), and you will get max capacity (12V*100Ah=1,2kWh). Probably the 5h capacity is about 80 or 75Ah, which is 15-16A (12V*16A=192W max), your capacity will reduced (12V*80Ah=0,96kWh) compared to the 20 hours it is 20% loss. If you increase the current over 15A, you reduce the battery life, and you will experience capacity more capacity loss.
    If you want to use a hair dryier you will need 5 pieces from that battery in parallel, the 76A will not be a problem.

    In other words, the lower battery temperature and the higher discharge current, the faster the voltage at its terminals will drop and, accordingly, the smaller capacity will be.
    The effect so-called "apparent" loss of capacity arises, when the supply of unreacted active substances is still sufficient, and the discharge has to be stopped due to an unacceptable decrease in the voltage at the battery terminals.

  • @HVinduction

    It clearly shows a discharge time of 20 Hours (C rating), and that is because of the internal resistance of the battery itself and with that discharge time you have a capacity of 100Ah. Also you should never charge a lead acid battery above 14,4 Volt.

    • @HVinduction
      @HVinduction 3 роки тому +2

      @@alonzodesantis6989 No, I meant if you charge it above 14.4V it will start gassing (hydrogen, oxygen and hydrogen disulfide). If you discharge it with more than 5 amps, you won't get the full capacity of 100Ah since the C-rating is then less than 20 hours, and the battery will start to act like a series resistance, so it will eventually boil when a complete short circuit occurs.

      I charged mine to 16V using a 100ma 23v max solar panel.The battery was incapable of going beyond 16V. There was no meaningful gassing as there was no discernible drop in electrolyte level. The level was higher than what I want from adding of retail chemical solids over the years. It's perfectly fine to charge above 14.4v at low amperage.
      Later, I charged using an AC/DC adaptor 18V 100ma for 2 months. The 18 years old battery was completely restored to 1.3 specific gravity for all cells. I didn't have the equipment to test for the capacity. Again the gassing was minimal. I could see gassing bubbles in the magic-eye port. There was no hope of dropping the electrolyte level.

    I have a query. You have checked the efficiency using an AC to DC inverter. Apart from the losses during conversion, I think most inverters are set to trip the conversion when the battery is used/discharged around 50/60 % of it's total capacity. It means that the battery does not get fully discharged when it is tripped off by the inverter. I think If you can use a DC light of 10 amp and connect it directly to the battery terminal you would notice about 80% or more efficiency. Also, I think that when we put a load of 80 amperes on a 100ah battery then after few minutes 10/15 amps from the battery are consumed from it's total capacity. So it becomes impossible for the battery to supply 80amp together and so the inverter trips. I think the battery does not get discharged fully in this case and one can still use smaller loads for e.g 10 amp for several hrs from the same battery. COMMENTS FROM OTHERS ARE STRONGLY WELCOME. thanks.

    lead acid are the worst for drawing long periods of current, they arnt designed for it, lithium iron phosphate are. but I'm sure you know this.
    by the way charging at 15.1 will hurt the battery, turn it down to 14.4 then to 13.8 then let it sit there for 2 hrs so the charge can be fully absorbed.

    Don't think perhaps it is a good idea to discharge the battery at such a high rate. AH capacity does not mean you can discharge at 100A or anything like that figure. you'll just fry the battery.

      OMG, Yes! Nobody takes that into consideration! Most ammeters are pretty much RMS devices. I have a clamp ammeter that records PEAK output, and on a switching inverter, the current shown could be as as much as 25% higher than steady state. Calibrated resister banks should be used to test battery capacity IMO.

      - How to find battery power
      Power=voltage x current
      So for 100Ah
      Power = 1200W it mean this battery can supply power to load up to 1.2kW.
      But battery unlike generator, battery power could supply more than its rated power many times depending on the battery manufacturer datasheet.
