Luke, there are many videos on here from seasoned blacksmiths who show how to get a good bevel on your knives. I'm pretty sure you could make a knife bevel angle tool from a piece of angle iron that would work with the sander you have.
I'm impressed youn man, don't sweat your grinding skills. One day it will hit you and you will have it down pat. Try welding a piece of high carbon to horse shoe or r&r spike for a better temper. Keep at it! ⚒️
Great shape and good practice material. It'll get you the experience you'll need when you work with better materials. 5160, common leaf spring or coil will finish into a better blade and is easy to find. Good job, practice, practice, practice. and have fun.
My first knife which I made yesterday is a horseshoe knife looks like that but has more of a curve at the tip area and is flaky and kinda scuffed looking
well hey you got to start somewhere my first knife barely resembled a knife so you got a good start. my advice is when you are starting focus more on decorative stuff and the techniques if you get that making knives will come easy.
If you want cleaner bevels with the angle grinder, do a little draw filing first, this will help identidy your high spots, then just alternate between the file and the grinder untill your happy, how did the quench go? i thought horse shoes were just mild steel but i have never forged one?
Okay thanks I'll definitely use that in the future, I'm not sure if it got very hard... I dont think its hardenable either but i figured any hardness it got was better than nothing.
Well I got a truck… then had to put 3 grand into it and it gets 7mpg so I had to get a job working at a lamp making place in town and I’m doing school so I haven’t found time to make videos. I really wish the channel would have gone somewhere
I wouldn't mind trying a knife from a rasp I have been super busy making stuff for markets and making ornaments for christmas I haven't had time to edit any videos

Amazing video bro. But don’t work the metal when it loses that glow. Put it back in the forge that way you won’t get matal cracks👍🏻
I knew this time would come lol i think its the settings on the camera that make it look cold... but I am guilty of doing that sometimes.
@@ivyironworks6698 also buddy where’s the content? You haven’t posted in over a year?
