How could anyone write this - let alone back in the day when they had to hand write everything. Unbelievable. And today, we hear it like Mozart heard it in his head. the instruments in Mozart's day didn't even sound this good.
I play bassoon and am shocked to see how unbelievable bassoonists could be. I will soon be playing Firebird Bassoon 1 Stravinsky. I am far from there level, wow.
there was also thought to be a lost second concerto in G major that would have been written about the same time. He wrote this one after hearing one of Vivaldi's concertos for bassoon when he was in Italy in his late teens.
It's believed that he wrote several bassoon concerti and that, as far as we know, the B flat is the only surviving one. Who knows one or more could turn up in some obscure eastern European university library.
That horn trill at the beginning is everything
And hard as hell
Yes it is! Every trill every sixteenth note. The bassoon is a beautiful sounding instrument. So smooth and rich and soothing i love it!
I love that the bassoonist played an authoral cadenza for the fermata sign as the 18th century musicians did so. Pretty cool!
as a bassoonist myself, i'm literally in awe. what an amazing soloist
same! I'm learning this currently and just- it's either flawless or nothing with this piece 😅
I love bassoons. I respect bassoonists (and every other musicians as well) 😊
Surely one of my favorite concertos. I love the sound of the bassoon with the orchestra here !

It's not that hard, just takes practice. Hearing the parts in your head, that is.
Klaus Thunemann is an absolute genius of the bassoon.

Is it really hard to blow into? I love this instrument. I play piano, flute, and tenor sax and want to learn the bassoon
@@andrewbroady827 it’s much more difficult then any instrument you’ve just mentioned, mostly due to the fingerings and of course the double reed
yeah it's a hard instrument lmao 😅 but you got this! and also for the main comment I love firebird I played it and it was so fun and iconic
He only write one bassoon concerto but I like it

He actual was reported to have written 5---but this is the only one that survived. Too bad, I would have liked to hear the others.
